The pine trees are used to give small fish cover, people tie them to their docks and piers for the same reason.

My aunt and uncle had a big rural homestead that is now under the lake. I spent many days playing in the creek and roaming the woods there, with my cousins. As a teen, I was at their farm, a place they relocated to, not far from the lake. My cousin and I saddled up a pair of horses and went out for a ride. We end up on the edge of the lake, about 50 yards from the water, and he stopped at a particular spot. My cousin asked if I knew where we were? He then said, "if you look down from here, straight into the lake, you can see where our driveway was". It was hard to sit up there in the saddle, as a big tough teenage boy, and not shed a tear.

Many lake "managers" solicit Christmas trees after Christmas, to submerge in the lakes for fish habitat improvement.

Thanks Cliff for another trip and history lesson. I thought Blue Marsh was built for flood control after Agnes caused so much damage/devastation in 72. Last year there was all that flooding in Manayunk, Philadelphia down to where the Schuylkill river empties into the Delaware River. They can take property from folks and build 10 Blue Marsh flood control sites. If people/city's don't keep the trash from clogging up storm sewer inlets on the streets, well, expect flood water in low places near the river. Just my 2 cents. Glad I live in beautiful Berks County.

Before I watch this, I can confirm 3 things that I know about Blue Marsh Lake: It's in Berks County, PA (I live in the same county), it's man made, and finally the rocks are sharp as hell! It's the main reason I hate going there for swimming. It hurts stepping on those rocks! Would not recommend swimming in such a dangerous environment.

Pretty sure the Christmas trees are for fish habitat when the lake level goes back up. As for Eminent domain, the law has gotten worse and worse and worse for property "owners" who ALL are really just renting from the government. Once eminent domain was for water sources, highways, and such, but now court cases have interpreted the law to allow for greater and greater abuse, eroding individual rights, even if it means taking a neighborhood so a developer can build bigger houses, as the increased property tax is seen as in the public good. Big government is a horrible idea folks, nothing good comes of it.

What a sad and lonely place. I was hoping that you had some photos of what the town used to look like, I'm sure the country has many photos archived. It would be great to do a little documentary on this place, it's history, the families that lived there. I'm sure there must still be people around who grew up there, and I bet they have photos and film of the place when it was thriving.
