🙂Good thing I picked up the game early on while it still looked cute and fun, before he got tilted from being distracted. It's a really nice, short (relative to others) game!

I love the absolute inability to see zoom out and cause and effect, "its my blocks, what do you mean I'm playing with them wrong? if I enjoy wasting time and not progressing then I will" 1 stream later.... "this game is too long dude" "it's not real money why do you care?" *discards research part* 1 stream later.... "bro I can't progress in this game, why won't she sell a research part"

This game had a good way of getting NL to absolutely tilt me but I couldn't stop watching. Thanks Dredge, seeya never.

The parts of the game that make Dredge stand out (lore, storytelling, creepiness factor) are things he didn't really have any interest in and what's left isn't exactly a revolutionary fishing game. I don't blame him for this one. He stuck with it a long time despite the game not really being his tempo and finally it was just too much.

I feel like it's not even the fact that it's not his tempo. It's just not his streamer personas tempo. I think if he wasn't going on tangents and looking at chat all the time he would've enjoyed it a good bit as he woulda realized what was going on in the game lol.

🙂The game _is_ also missing some UI that would make it much better for people who pick it up and put it back down, or are otherwise busy or distracted. Like, he can't zoom in on the map, add any kind of marker or note to the map, or annotate the quest notes himself. Hollow Knight added map pins (colored icons / markers) in an update, so I hope Dredge also adds some of that stuff. It would make it a lot easier to recommend to friends and family who don't have time for many games. Steam says I spent 28 hours in total, but that's after I restarted it to try and get 100% of everything filled out. (Which I then ran out of time for.) A 'normal' play-through just doing the main quests would be a few days of gaming.

@@AileTheAlien good point in that the game lacks the polish in aspects of ui like map details and the pursuits screen which could use some love. However i think that dredge is so short and each objective is so simple that you could expect the avg player to keep at least 3 things in mind for a few minutes per task. The ui issues rear their heads when you get a guy like ryan gary that is always distracted w chat. I think a more detailed pursuits screen would help a lot with that. But watch a guy like Vinny (Vinesauce) play this game and you can see that he makes so much faster progress because he can focus for long enough to get an objective done and then take time for chat without losing direction. This series was so painful for me because i love my streamer enelle and i love the game dredge but they dont love each other and its sooo sad and mald endusing

Very funny video. If this is the end of Dredge at least it went out on a 10/10 moment. Honestly I thought he was done when he died like 4 times to the big tentacle mouth thing. I gotta say, tho, it's really strange hearing him dunk on Stardew multiple times for being a game where you just kind of vibe and do daily routine stuff, then complain constantly that this game is making him do more than daily routine stuff. He complains some (most) games are too long, then drops a "that's it?" if a game ends early. Too many mechanics or no substance. I really don't know what NL *wants* out of games anymore. Maybe I'm just not watching the ones he's really into.

Sap. A round isn't long, but it's infinitely replayable. There's different animals, but there's only a couple basic mechanics. Attack, health, lvl/XP. There's stakes, but no "bring 8 florshes to the morplack to progress (to the next fetch quest)".

He was still right next to the shark's spawn. He could have literally just turned around and picked up another one. It's like getting tilted because your glass of water is empty. It could not be easier to just get some more.

@@mikeballew3207 He did deplete the fishing spot, so he would have to wait. The collision mechanics in this game are a bit unforgiving too so I sympathise with the frustration. Touches at low speed probably shouldn't do damage or lose cargo.

I see a decent amount of people upset about him giving up on the game, and to that I have to say- go get 'em man. I played the game myself after the first episode and absolutely adored the game. I've also enjoyed watching him play and experiencing everything. With that being said, I would much rather him have fun when playing, because that's way more interesting to watch.

Agreed, part of me just wishes he left the game after the first 2 episodes or so since it was quite clear he wasn’t interested back then already (with the constant chat glancing and dock-sleep-redocking going on). Now that he was so close to the end of a pretty short game (if you pay attention that is ofc) it just feels like he did the game dirty

He needed to play half an hour of this focused without chat. Then he could do the rest of the game easily. But glancing all the time and losing his thoughts about what to do in the game constantly set him back.

It's because he views games from a streamer's perspective, that's why he always skips long dialogue and talks during cutscenes, he's afraid of boring the audience so he doesn't take the time to get immersed. But personally I appreciate it when a let's player takes their time playing a game.

I think he's just projecting his attention span onto the viewer. If you can't make progress on a game without constantly asking for chat's help because you skipped 99% of the information the game gave you, then you're not even playing at that point. What's the point? After watching NL drive in a loop for an hour at the Gale Cliffs between the merchant and nowhere, I realized that he was just going to butcher the ambiance. I'm so glad I played this one on my own. The moments where the story clicked for me were so enjoyable.

​@@WHALEBOY777 Honestly, streaming is killing my enjoyment of gaming Internet content. Prerecorded let's plays let you put your whole attention on the game and focus entirely on that. You don't have to worry about the audience of ADHD zoomers quitting your stream after reading 4 seconds of dialogue. I don't care about interacting with the streamer, I don't get anything out of it being live, I get annoyed at long-ass tangents, and boy oh boy does it really grate on me when a streamer skips a tutorial and then complains about not knowing how stuff works. Like, whatever happened to Let's Plays where it was just a guy focusing on being funny over a videogame? NL SAP is like the only bastion of that left, everyone else has migrated to streaming. It's a bummer.

He finally caught the ghost shark he was after forever, because he can't focus or sail far from his dock-redock-sleep cycle for long, and the back of his boat hit rock, damaged the ship, and he lost the ghost shark.

In my class we all just voted on the good categories and then the people who didn't get anything had a category made up for them. I wasn't even in the conversation for the good ones and my honorable mention was "biggest temper" lol. That stung

It does kinda suck that this game ends up being more of a chore as it goes on. It was really fun and interesting in its beginning, and when Ryan was streaming it he had some amazing banter with it, but it does get kind of tiring and repetitious. I understand the frustration.

Tbh I feel like the mechanics didnt evolve in a very satisfying way. The game had such potential at first, but as it went on the fishing evolved into more cumbersome fishing, and the fetch quests evolved into... more fetch quests. Feels like they couldve done more with it. Couple this with him getting distracted, and not having an affinity to seek out story progression, and the game turns into just driving in circles and hitting rocks.

One Isaac run is like 30 minutes long. I understand that Elden Ring is too long, but Dredge surely isn't. Just unfortunate he was getting sidetracked by chat so much.
