I love how Lincoln used the repetitive technique in his persuasive, call to action speech to move the masses. The words "we", "cannot", even "that", and more, used in such a concise few words and in two minutes, is amazing. What a great speaker and speech writer the president was.

"4 score and 7 years ago, our fathers..." referred back to 7/4/1776. Lincoln was known as 'Father Abraham' and he referred to Genasis 16:16 when "Abram was 4 score and 6 years old when (the slave girl) Hagar gave birth to Ishmael ("Is he male?"). Lincoln was the 16th p16resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. This is a BIG proof of destiny. See 7seals.blogspot.com - only the returned Christ, Lincoln, and Albert Einstein reincarnated could produce that. It's triggered The Apocalypse/Revelation which is NOT the 'end of the world'.
Oh my gosh, I don't think I've ever clicked on a video so fast. Ever since Mr. Renn told our class he would be doing this collaboration I've been waiting on pins and needles for it to come out. I'm so happy that he was able to have this amazing opportunity. Here's to Mr. Hughes for making this possible for him and Mr. Renn, who I can already tell is the greatest teacher I've ever had and will ever have.

I've got to write a rhetorical analysis of the Gettysburg address for my ENG class. I genuinely appreciate this vid, as it really helped bring some important context that I didn't have prior. So big thanks my guy

The address is arguably the greatest and most important piece of literature in human history

That's a rather... bold claim. I think it's very much disputable that this is the most important piece of literature in American history, let alone world.

Wow! I really enjoyed this!
that Lincoln had a gift for gab thats for sure. That guy could really rap.
Lincoln’s message still resonates profoundly with succeeding generations of Americans because “the unfinished work” goes on for a more perfect union.
You guys did a good job!

Also, you have to remember that (1) Lincoln was speaking before a large crowd in the open air, NOT in an auditorium or some kind of public hall and (2) in 1863 there was NO kind of electrical public address system or amplification apparatus. In other words, you had to be pretty darn close up in front of the stage to actually hear one syllable of Lincoln's speech.
Thanks for the info! I pray you don’t refer to the internet as “internets” and “KZreads” anymore
I found a 2 page Abraham Lincoln letter November 19 1863 The Gettysburg Address old brown piece of .paper. At the back of the letter, a fingerprint of Abraham Lincoln
What is the intro music, I swear I've heard it before it's driving me mad.

What is the fluency, tone, volume, pitch and speed of The Guttysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln

Well, it was reported that the speech took only about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes and it was interrupted at least 5 times with applause, so.......
When will you Talk about the 2016 election?
Mr. Renn Thank you. I was taught that another reason it was so tight that it was perfect for transmission via telegraph. All of it would have been able to be sent rapidly across the wires.

Where attention goes, energy flows . . . is kind of the whole idea of youTube. It's your secret of success Keith. OK, it is true you have to have lots of facts... and you do, but brevity is the key to attention flow. I'm in my sixties and like those much much younger, my "attention goes" where the information is bang bang. Two Minutes. 272 words. That might be the secret of the Gettysburg Address. Just imagine with a room full of speech writers and the constraint of two minutes, and something important to say . . . how good that speech would be. Increase the brevity, Keith, and John.

I disagree attention goes not by how good the information is or what it teaches you the attention goes where the energy of how the material speaks to you.
im filipino and idk why we study about america's history😀
Agreed. Although Lincoln himself felt he did not do a good job. I read it often. It speaks to our times now. Our work is still unfinished.
very educational but bad hair knowing that thousands would be eventually watching.
now i will do good on mah test
Heard “consencrate” a few times!
Would we still today have recognized the greatness of the Gettysburg Address, had not Lincoln been assassinated?
We cannot hollow this ground? Lol
what a beautiful combination to exalt Lincoln's 2-minute speech...so poignant, it moves my soul.

Bro, hollowed ground? Cmon man.
why does it need explaining ?Is it not in English?
This guys weird
This is more silly and less entertaining and relevant. Just saying
Alas, the address is not that impressing anymore, if you know where Lincoln copied from...even exact expressions...Check "Pericles' Funeral Oration" (432 BC) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pericles%27_Funeral_Oration and do read the full oration afterwards...
@danielnosuke

He covers that in the video.
Mr Renn is way too close to the camera and made me dizzy
"But let us not forget that it is oratory, not logic; beauty, not sense. Think of the argument in it! Put it into the cold words of everyday! The doctrine is simply this: that the Union soldiers who died at Gettysburg sacrificed their lives to the cause of self-determination - “that government of the people, by the people, for the people,” should not perish from the earth. It is difficult to imagine anything MORE UNTRUE. The Union soldiers in that battle actually fought AGAINST self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of their people to govern themselves. What was the practical effect of the battle of Gettysburg? What else than the destruction of the old sovereignty of the States, i. e., of the people of the States? The Confederates went into battle an absolutely free people; they came out with their freedom subject to the supervision and vote of the rest of the country-and for nearly twenty years that vote was so effective that they enjoyed scarcely any freedom at all. Am I the first American to note the fundamental nonsensicality of the Gettysburg address? If so, I plead my aesthetic joy in it in amelioration of the sacrilege." H.L. Menchen.
Cringe.

Good video if you need information on HOW and why he did the speech. I needed he speech explained, which it says in the headline/title of this video, but all they talk about is how he wrote it and how the people reacted. Not useful for me, I’m sorry. Also too many attempts of humor, which is super annoying, as it takes up time. Waste of 14 minutes.
Don't try so hard. This would have been far greater without the idiocy. Put the hip back in Hip Hughes History.
