The Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks Live (1991) |
Музыка
Richard Stephen Shaw (December 8, 1966 - June 9, 2019) was a Jamaican-American rapper better known by his stage name Bushwick Bill. He was best known as a member of the pioneering Texas hip hop group Geto Boys, a group he originally joined as a dancer in 1986 as Little Billy. He went on to become one third of the best-known incarnation of the group, alongside Willie D and Scarface.
On May 1, 2019, Shaw revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. On June 9, 2019, reports emerged that Shaw had died, but news of his death was later refuted by his son. However, it was subsequently reported and confirmed that Shaw died later that day.
"Mind Playing Tricks on Me" is a single by the Geto Boys, featured on their 1991 album We Can't Be Stopped. The lyrics used within describe various mental states such as posttraumatic stress disorder. The sample used in the song is "Hung Up On My Baby" by Isaac Hayes from his 1974 film Tough Guys. It was the only number-one single (chart: Hot Rap Singles) ever released by the Geto Boys. It reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the highest charting single by the Geto Boys. It was also certified Gold by the RIAA.It has been regarded as one of the best hip hop songs of all time. - wikipedia

Indeed sir. That’s one of the truest statements I’ve ever heard! ✌️
i liked this even with the clean lyrics they managed to still sound great live without having to just censor the words, they came up with clean fills for the lines im impressed!
@bakerfresh
Жыл бұрын
I think the clean version was better than the explicit on this song and video...Yo mTV raps. Back when they'd put thought into a clean version to have the song/story make sense. A lot was lost with the Fuh-beep-cuk You Mother Fuc-beep-ker. Or the later pause...just say the word then....you aren't censoring it. Drove me crazy, and does now...especially having to listen to swear, paused in the middle, amd auto tuned in a whiny voice.

Song was way ahead of its time.
Alot of people remember Bill 4 his dope lyrics. But dont 4got the brother was also very very intelligent. All of his interviews he says something really deep, insightful, inspiring n full of wisdom. Brother was well read. Not only was he a MC, but a gentleman n a scholar.....RIP.....BUSHWICK....✌😰

I'm discovering how intelligent Bill was just now. Their music was so hardcore, lewd, psychotic and great! I never really considered how intelligent they were. Now on KZread going down a Bushwick Bill rabbit hole, I was thinking-man, this is one intelligent dude. Outside of the rap horror world they created in their music, they all lived pretty normal lives. That is-with the exception of Bushwick having his eye shot out!

They each stood out. Scarface's lyrics put a voice to paranoia and anxiety, plus he slayed on the mic. I love how Willie D is giving shoutouts, then effortlessly commands the stage with his booming voice. And of course Bill had that brash rasp and snarl. Love this performance!
I loved Bushwick as an actor, too. I will never forget his appearance on Martin. Hilarious. RIP player. He overcame so many obstacles. You will be remembered forever and missed forever.
You were small in stature, but a true GIANT in the rap game. We will never forget you, Bushwick Bill. 🙏❤👊

I was a DJ in the 80's only but continued buying and spinning vinyl throughout the 90's.....When these times and moments were happening, we were so consumed by the creativity of music, dancing, etc., and girls/women always.....no one was really thinking about it would end one day....anyway it's hard to think these days are over. R.I.P. to Bushwick Bill and the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.
