The Getaway Deserves a Comeback!
Ойындар
We're going back to another classic of the Playstation 2 era! I still firmly believe that the Getaway deserves a comeback in the modern age. Some say that the entire UK are still havin' themselves a little giggle.
Be sure to catch me on Twitch and hit the bell so you know when I'll be live!

I can say as an Englishman, this is basically the finest representation of England in pop culture. 100% accurate. Not even havin’ a giraffe
NO WAY! My nickname was getaway too! It was always fun going to school. They would call my name in the hall and move out of my way, I may as well have been a God in school. Hearing the girl I liked in 5th grade saying "Ahhhh, get away!!!" Truly confirmed that our feelings were mutual. Good memories.

That cell phone dial had me going, mick. Thank you for the giggle.
I'd love a remastered Getaway, not a remake because the story is already stellar. But going around a 4K London that isn't Watch Dogs Legion's version is the dream ☺️

Black Monday was my first when I got it for Christmas one year. Dad knew I played GTA and the guy at EB Games said it was one of the newest open world crime games. I think driving the many great vehicles through London was my most favorite thing about the franchise. I was already aware of and played Driver, True Crime, Scarface and of course GTA. This felt like True Crime turned up a notch in certain areas, but with a far more serious tone. I'd love to see a modern release honestly. EDIT: Scarface would not come out till AFTER I played these games lol getting old
I loved this game as a kid. I remember getting stuck on the police station level. How Londoners speak "If u keep flipping your bin lid at me mate! I'll paint your bins red! u hear me son?!"
13:48 this part gave me a giggle
The getaway games where extremely close to being generational titles, the graphics, story, voice acting where all f, haantastic, had they only improved upon the game mechanics and maybe added some more light hearted "fun"
@justsomeoldyoutuber6093
Жыл бұрын
Honestly the light hearted “fun” was that of Vice City, it’s now rare to see a game like this that was quite serious all round as, well the plot indeed was too. Only chance you saw or heard was with Jake Jolson’s unintentional comedic dialogues and the pedestrians who road rage that broke the tense imo
As a brit, the "you avin' a giggle" is incredibly accurate and I'm all for it 😂
I laughed so much at this.. relentless. The constant Bill theme playing and slapping got me, cannot believe you made us watch the phone animation for so long 😂😂😂😂
I remember how much of a big deal this game was when it came out cuz it used real locations and the dev team went around and photographed the whole city for reference and textures. I also remember finding out you can lean to get health and it blew my mind. There really was no other game like The Getaway in terms of realism at the time.
"Havin a giggle" is definitely one of your best gags to date, you gotta play Black Monday

Damn, i havent seen that loading screen in ages and yet it was like it was yesterday when those dots appeared. Like remembering a forgotten memory...
Omg my favorite now is Micky D doing a brish accent Ya havin a giggo
The way you aim in both The Getaway 1 & 2, is to use the tip of your weapon. It acts like a semi-iron sight, but in 3rd person. Every weapon will have the tip of it's barrel in the center of the screen, regardless of where your character is.

@@AHSValor When I played this as a kid I thought the same thing. It was the first game I'd ever played that didn't use a crosshair and felt like I was actually aiming a gun. Now, it's obviously janky but you can tell what they were trying to do, be immersive. Like how you have to lean on walls to recover and you get bloody instead of a health bar. Or the turn signals instead of a minimap. It's actually wrote in the manual (the PS2 version anyways) on how to aim, this is where I originally read it. :)

Giggles aside, hats off to the game you can reognise exactly where in London he is in every scene
Had a few giggles from this vid
It's genuinely crazy how good this game looks. I've only been to England once and I know this is British architecture. Mainly because Scotland is the same, ye filth, ye tainted us, give us back our mud huts and blue paint!
I played this so much as a kid. Free Roam mode actually has a truly weird number of completely unique one-off hidden cars which I hunted down relentlessly, and now wonder why on earth they didn't just incorporate into traffic (Since a lot weren't particularly weird)
The Getaway is one of my favorite ps2 games. I remember playing it for hours and just driving around London in the free roam mode, looking for secret cars like the TVR Cerbera. The sequel is cool too, check it out if you haven‘t already!
this game was literally my childhood. never got too far with the missions so I just walked around and acted like a good citizien lmao

it btw took me months to figure out that you can steel cars in this game
the commitment to the phone dialing bit is legendary
Would love more Getaway and giggles in the future
Took me a long time to work out the healing system in this, I had to get through that whole museum section not knowing how. I also kept hearing about how they got taxi drivers to play this to learn the layout of the city apparently.
Start of the video: “you havin’ a giggle?” End of the video: “U ‘avin a geegle??”
Maybe I was just in a good mood, but this video was pure comedic gold to me.
I was having a giggle through out the whole video :D

I remember playing this as a kid and I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. It hasn't aged all that well but still a classic for me.
I finished it not long ago and it was such a trip. One trick to help with driving is to use the right analog stick as the gas, kind of like Halo. Found the driving way more manageable that way.
This game is legendary ! They really need to bring it back
Another one of the forgotten, but yet hidden gems.
Can’t even tell you how much I cried-laughing at this vid. Masterpiece here!!!
I remember watching my dad play this as a young fella and was the first time I saw a man shrug off bullets by leaning on a wall, also still got a getaway sticker on my ps2 from a ps2 magazine back in the day
I'm literally crying!😭🤣 Absolutely frickin hilarious. The Bill music OMG 🤣🤣🤣 What content! So glad I found this channel.😄
Really want to see more of this!
"are you experiencing a mirthful event?" Classic Getaway
every single time you go "u havin' a giggle?" I can't stop laughing LOL
This game was so damn hard when I was a kid
I have a big soft spot for this series. In fact, I recently put out a big video covering them. Considering within a month someone else has made something with a similar sentiment that the series needs some kind of comeback, I hope Sony actually takes note and maybe considers doing something with the IP (hopefully not VR.)
I love this because its basically just an Irishman babbling and every so often "YOU HAVIN A GIGGLE?"
I’m so used to games being set in the USA that driving on the left looks weird. I’m English and drive everyday 😅
That phone dialing animation was too good, 🤣
The Getaway games were amazing, I'm totally up for the series returning.
that Daihatsu unironically deserves to be in tokyo drift
3:55 Mark Hammond has Wolverine style healing where leaning against walls fixes bullet wounds.
Hammonds passing out so much like he’s in a silent hill game
Shout-out the Ratchet and Clank Megacorp Store theme playing right at the beginning 🤙
I had a lot of giggles! Thank you!
remember the famous tech demo's for Getaway 3. wished it had come out. There's still time. I loved this game. my familys old street is on it in islington. this game was way ahead of its time graphically
Back when all car based games either had covers that looked like GT or Driver.
There is something poetic about an Irishman exploding cars in London. I'm 'avin a giggle aight.
I picked a random video to say this on, but: FINALLY, A KZreadR WHERE I ACTUALLY GET ALL THE REFERENCES! (Thank you for every single obscure and non obscure music reference ever)
both getaway games could be frustrating at times but i loved them anyway. would love to see a comeback!
fun fact: Sleeping dogs was meant to be a sequel to True Crime LA but was changed to be it's own game. The story of Sleeping dogs development is pretty interesting.
England, Mexico, Switzerland. What a international game!
13:48 Jesus christ 😂
I love how Micky D roasts British culture. I'm currently doing the most British thing I can think of, eating cake while drinking a nice cup of tea.
Never realised how much the theme song to The Bill, works as a level theme for a Mega Drive era Sonic game until now.
I've never even played this game but it's so nostalgic to me, the devs really knew London in the 2000s because it's the exact London i remember from my childhood. My dad even drove one of those gold Peuguot 306s when I was little and he crashed it too lmao
Fucking loved this game.. would love to see a remake, charley boy
"he burnt alive. Well that's just having a Peugeot to be fair" 😁😁
Bring some more videos about Getaway! It's a great underrated game and you're so funny. Greatings from Italy💪
This video is insane, and I love every giggle of it...

This is the glorious absolute chaos i watch micky d for.
I absolutely lost my shit with the phone scene, I always listen to Micky when I go to sleep and I was so confused.
God the cell phone dialing bit really got me good.
I will never ever forget that 1st mission in the yardie weed-house and that hip hop beat playing on their ghetto-blaster, also the Saab 900 was a beast in this game
Hello
That "Queen of the Damned" poster. This game really is a time capsule.

Top Gear and Prequel references in the same video... it's enough to make a grown man have a giggle
I haven't laughed this hard in a while, 10/10 content.
First impression of the game: A mix between Mafia and Driver
The London Heist, and Blood and Truth on the PSVR we're initially going to be new games in The Getaway series.
man i really liked this game, it really deserves a remake!
That’s dialing bit got me for a sec! Also man I miss this game. Please play more or even some Black Monday!
My American is showing. I was so confused for a bit as to why he was getting into the passenger seat every time he’d take a car
Not gonna lie, it truly does. I remember having blast with this game and even black monday, which was bugged to death.
I’m the giggle man, 😂😂😂 could not stop laughing,
This game still holds up exremely well in almost all aspects (well maybe apart from gameplay and graphics)
Your editing is so good ☺️
You could leave a outro of the guy texting forever and ever so we remember this masterpiece of a game lmao
I need more of this!
Omg! This game was my fav back in the day!
Don't forget - there exist a sequel to first The Getaway, and PSP "Gangs of London" - which used some assets from cancelled Third "The Getaway". Also, some screenplay from cancelled Third "The Getaway" - was been used in VR Worlds, and that story about the heist. How, do i know this (even as a russian gamer?) - it's simply, lead dev of SOHO was said that, in AMA/QnA and also, in interviews - after released of VR Worlds on PS4 Pro/PS VR (First One).
when i saw you going against the wall to heal all the memories and PTSD of later missions of this game came to my mind good game but my god the difficulty spikes later
Can confirm, I had a giggle
The phone dialing put my sides in orbit
