People don't appreciate the aviation movies because it's not realistic. We barely get movies in the first place so why hammer it down when it's geared to bring in a bigger audience and not just aviation weebs like myself. Now we will wait another 5 years for the next one to come out.

+Mills117 Actually it's Irish propaganda, as it was made in Ireland by Irish people, to make a point about how Ireland was neutral in the war. The rest of the short film shows them have a fight on the ground and the Brit capture the German, lead him out to some soldiers only to find out they're magically in Ireland all of a sudden and both under arrest. There's a smug little note at the end about how many of the POWs stayed there at the end of the war and became citizens.

In movie dogfights, there's always a scene where a guy gets shot down and his friend is watching and screaming in agony to dial in the tragedy of it all. I imagine in real air combat, you've got too much adrenaline and you're focusing on too many things to really emotionally process something like that until afterwards.

Actually I AM a pilot with lots and lots of time logged, some of it of a contentious nature. But I don't have any comments about this movie, I just saw the clip and then checked the comments to see if it was worth watching....I gather it isn't. I will say that the Spitfire pulled what looked liked a 9g turn at one point....and that's bs. Can't be worse then Mission of Honor/Hurricane though....can it?

I remember when we were in DEFTAC school we were taught the easiest way to break a guns solution was to do a very high g snap barrel roll. Not only would you break their guns solution, you would cause an overshoot and now you would be in a position to out rounds through THEIR canopy, The other way to break a guns solution was to roll left, pull quick pos G and then stuff the stick all the way forward and push max neg G. Although this works, hard neg G's are very painful and can literally burst blood vessels in your eyes. More than once we came back from DEFTAC hops with badly bloodshot eyes.

You don't need to put yourself in the situation of the pilots, WW2 was ended 70 years ago, plus people could put more money in the film and make it realistic, why they should get as much money as the really realistic movies that cost much more to make, just think of it: some guy gets same profit off a movie with low graphics but did pay less and did not work as much on the graphics as the realistic movie makers did, isn't it just not fair to get as much money as a realistic film when you just didn't work enough on it? We should just forget about world war 2.

So sweet! But the reality looks different. The German Messerschmidt dives considerably faster, so that the British pilot has no chance of chasing him in this way. And the only situation I know where an opposing pilot was hunted down in this way was a Mustang pilot, that of Hermann Graf (the first fighter pilot in the world to score 200 kills, 212 in total, died in 1988) was involved in a fight with several Mustangs in the defense of the Reich. He shot down 2of them. Then his guns failed, so that the 3rd Mustang he knocked down with a flap of its wing on the enemy's cockpit. After this, his machine was also so badly damaged that he had to jump off immediately. He got caught in his oxygen supply and was torn down with it. It was only shortly before the impact that he was able to free himself and deploy the parachute just in time. Fortunately, he was soon found in a swampy area and taken to the hospital. Then he received an absolute flight ban from the German air force command. It should be mentioned that this man is one of the top 15 fighter pilots (all German of course) of all time. These 15 men, together, shot down almost 3,000 enemies. If you want to watch a film about the life of a real fighter pilot, then I recommend the "Star of Africa", about the life of Hans-Joachim Marseille. He scored 158 victories, all in the west. And Marseille is not even one of the "unrivaled 15" ... kzread.info/dash/bejne/fXWJuMmjhJu4ZrA.html

Do you just want to try to speak like a teacher or smth ? There is a lot of largely more irrealistic points in this hollywood clip lol. By the way, "The spit"? which spit? and which 109? there were 24 spit models. And many 109s. They had different energy retention. And energy retention also depends of a lot of external factor than the aircraft model. Like angle of attack, speed, alt, fuel, dammage taken, ammuntion left, bombs left, etc .. Then an aircraft could have the better energy situation in a situation and not in an other. It seems more complicate than just "109 had better energy retention than the Spit", specificly for 2 aircraft which were very similar as their pilots said. And I heard the spit had a very nice enegry retention, so who should I trust? Sorry for my english.

You need to do some more research. The German Jagdfliegers over-claimed like every other pilot in the war. During the Battle of Britain the ratio of German claims to actual British losses was worse than 2-1. The Germans did have lots of high scoring Aces, but their victory totals are a function of the fact their opponents were flying mostly inferior types... i.e. Soviets... and the Soviets had abysmal tactics and many aircraft did not have radio communications. Against Western opponents with up to date aircraft the Jagdfliege did much worse.

Under idle conditions (favorable tail wind, NOT IN COMBAT WITH THROTLE TO THE FIREWALL) The 109E could have JUST make Ireland on a one way trip. The E model only had a range of 640km. On my charts, if the 109 took of from a costal air field in France, it would have barely made the coast. So it is movie plot fuel.

They could weave his INCREDIBLE story into the battle of Britain and have all kinds of cool dogfight scenes. The sequel would be about his capture, escapes and recaptures and his time in Colditz prison. They could end it with the glider actually flown out of the prison / castle.

A realistic film about DB wouldn't show him in a good light. He claimed to have shot down five Germans in one fight over Dunkirk...a feat unwitnessed by those with him and not recorded on his gun camera. He left the airfields he was meant to protect unguarded while going off chasing personal glory, and once ordered 3 squadrons to turn back because of a technical problem with his own aircraft...he wouldn't hand over control to anyone else because he was an egomaniac. Then he was instrumental in pulling strings to get Sir Hugh Dowding sacked as head of Fighter Command after Dowding had won the Battle of Britain. If you were scoring him for his qualities as a commander, you'd give him a 10 for leadership (his personal courage was an inspiration to those around him) and a 0 for decision-making.

Sure, it's unrealistic. But it's a movie, not a documentary. If it's a movie meant to entertain and portray in an entertaining manner, who cares if it's unrealistic? They did great on the models themselves too! Don't crap on a movie because it ain't up to your standards, comment-section-'historians'. I've flown hours in IL-2 Sturmovik and FSX along with other games like WarThunder, but this film was never meant to be fully realistic, it was meant to entertain. There is a mighty large difference between "Entertaining" and "Simulating". If you don't appreciate the 'unrealism', find a documentary elsewhere. Trying to make yourself look like an expert over a low-budget movie, that many involved worked hard on with what little they were given, makes you look careless and ungrateful. Appreciate their efforts, try not to look for what you consider 'mistakes'.
