The George Washington Bridge

Everything you always wanted to know about the George Washington Bridge AND MORE! The (AND MORE) part is the rest of the film which takes place in Boston and ends up in Texas. Lots of TRUCKS in this one, as we travel alone the US highways.

I deliver to costco in the North east and travel through there twice a day. The best way to bypass the GW is get on exit 10 in NJ and follow that to i287 to i684. 684 to 84. Another good way is get on 80 west from 95 and get on 287 from 17. Been watching your videos for a long time and I enjoy every one. Stay safe out there.

Yes if you have to deliver in the NE area it's always smart to get advice from local drivers who do it every day. They know all the shortcuts. I have a question. If you are going into NYC from upstate NY are there tolls going in that direction.

Thanks. I forgot about I87 being the NYS Thruway but if there was another way to get to New Jersey without actually going through New York City although none of the Hudson River crossings have the tolls going out of New York. only on the inbound side.from Jersey.

from 87 get on 287 (exit15) follow that all the way to 95 unless you want to avoid the new jersey turnpike. if so from 287 you can get on US 1. i normaly get on us1 from exit 9 off 287.

Driving in and around NYC sucks to put it mildly and I drive a pickup truck. I can't imagine how it is to push an 18 wheeler around the NYC area with all the idiots in a rush in cars all over the place. I'm glad I'm out of there and I am not missing it one bit! The last time I was in Milford, CT was maybe around 2001, the Pilot was half-built so I stopped at that Secondi Bros. truckstop and that was by far one of the filthiest and most run-down truck stops I had ever been to. I'm surprised they're still there, hard to tell in the video but it looks like they cleaned it up somewhat. The parking lot had holes big enough to bury your truck in, and was covered with pissbottles, trash, busted pallets, and blown tires. Inside was no better, filthy bathrooms with no toilet seats or stall doors, walls and ceilings covered with years of cigarette smoke. I can't believe they jacked up the GW bridge toll to $105, it was only $40 back in 2001. Great video as always Jack, keep up the good work.

Rubes in Newark, NJ fits that description, the only truck stop i was ever afraid to get out of the truck at night. No lights, deal deals going down and whores galore, dirt parking lot. An old an dilapidated T/S. GW toll was $20 in '94 if i remember right.

Welcome to New York!!!! My Neighborhood Washington Heights within walking distance of the GW I can walk a block and get great shots. You are driving under huge high-rise "projects on either side. The bridge lies between 178th and 179th Streets and there is a building that covers the streets off of the bridge. Those tolls are a killer for sure. Most drivers hate the Northeast for that very reason. I don't like driving in NYC and all I drive is a regular car.

Here in Massachusetts, we don't call them "round-a-bouts" we call them Rotaries, or Rotary. I know we are one of the few states that use them, but if you know what you're doing, they work when you have several intersecting roads. People who are already in the rotary have the right of way, so you have to wait for enough space to get into it. Some are big enough to have 2 lanes of traffic, but I don't like to be on the inner lane and then have to move to the outer one when the exit to get onto comes up. If the traffic is real busy, it can be hard to move over to the right to get the exit you want, so I stay to the outside lane.

Speaking of the wind generator, a fellow I knew in Colorado lived off I-70, West of Denver. Two cell providers had sites on his property. They paid to bring in their own power and leased the land from him. He was an electronics engineer and made good money. He said the two leases paid about what he got at work. He said another cell provider was talking with him. Apparently the existing providers were sharing one tower so the new guys would install their own tower.
