These were the good ol times where adult animation was focused more on social commentary and having an art style that doesn’t plagiarizes the Simpsons style. Adult animation today is now all about Shock humor and designs that copies others. What the heck just happened!?

Because networks thought their viewers are morons that want to to see funny animated characters do 30 minutes of dumb cartoony stuff and not see something that was more serious but still funny. And so networks either sabotaged their own shows by changing their time slot in order to kill them and replace them with something people liked or forced their authors to change the shows, usually killing them. Pretty sure that if Bojack Horseman or Bob’s Burger came out in the 90s they either wouldn’t have lasted a season or they would have been retooled into oblivion.

I remember watching the series on Netflix, I thought it was alright 7/10. But I do wish Dilbert would return in the form of a new animated series. Heck, I can see this working out as a live action/ animated hybrid film.
I have heard about Dilbert But NEVER saw a single strip of his comics, not even the series either
Dilbert is among one of the most underrated adult cartoons. Not to mention that it is also one of my favorite adult cartoons of all time.😀
I've already seen "The Office" and "Parks and Rec," and I enjoyed them both, so I may give "Dilbert" a look. I also noticed your Gaston and Lefou statues. No one does office work like GASTON! ... I mean Dilbert.
It's a shame Kathy Griffin had to be uncredited for voicing Alice because of her then-current gig on NBC's "Suddenly Susan".

I also watched cartoons that weren't aimed at kids just because they were on. I loved Dr Katz even though I had no idea who any of the guest star comedians were (rewatching as an adult was just several hours of me going "Oh wow that's whatsisname!")

I forgot the Dilbert series existed. It seems like King of the Hill as in that it's a show made more for grown ups despite not being crass or offensive like Family Guy or South Park but has references to situations that adults know about that kids know little to nothing about. And I'm sure Dilbert though isn't as boring. (Even though KOTH has its great moments, other times it can get kinda boring).

Dilbert and Office Space changed my life, from that moment on I have a terror of office cublicles and I abandon everything that has to do with engineering and dedicate myself to social sciences.
Who else is distracted by Dilbert’s tie breaking the laws of gravity and Alice’s hair being in the shape of a Dorito?
I was definitely there for most of the premiere nights at the ages of 10-11 (same for Home Movies, also debuting on UPN), usually while taking a bath (a b&w antenna TV was plugged into an outlet on the adjacent sink counter).
Despite its short run and schedule changes, I think it really helped propel adult animation to where it is today. Also, I'm really surprised Foxtrot never got a show or at least a special.

Makes no sense to have Dogbert be the main character. He's too self-assured and powerful. He's another good zany character and he's also sometimes a deus ex machine.
@briandavids5363

Exactly. The reason why so many side-characters work is that they're not overexposed. Dogbert as the main character would lose all of its comedy & present him as a Stuart Stu god.
Man, was I surprised when I learned that Dilbert was voiced in the cartoon by Daniel Stern ... Marv in HOME ALONe / HOME ALONe 2... 😂
I did check out this series on Roku Tv and this show is pretty good. I didn't know Danny Elfman did the opening. My favorite character is Loud Howard, but the character I found more relatable is Asok.

i remember playing the Dilbert computer game, where Dogbert is standing on suitcases putting people on this slingshot, and we had to sling the people in the air. There were planes, boats, houses, countries, and a man blowing the people in the opposite direction.
Dilbert got me into Marketing. Unironically. It's a real shame about how Scott Adams jumped off the deep end, some of my best childhood memories are tied to reading the Dilbert Principle and asking my Dad to explain 3/4 of the jokes to me because I was 8.
I love Dilbert's rant about holidays.
Thanks for this look back

I used to watch Dilbert online, but I also like The Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy as well as loving adult animation. I am also hoping you review Wander Over Yonder and or The Weird Al Show sometime.
Dogbert looks like Brian Griffin from Family Guy.
The time slot thing I can TOTALLY see contributing to killing the show - something similar happened to contribute to the downfall of the long running Match Game game show IIRC.
5:15-5:25 Why did this make me chuckle
I will tell you what killed it. It was IMPOSSIBLE to watch reliably. It was almost ALWAYS preempted, usually for sports. So, you'd tune in at the appointed time or set your VCR, only to find out you just recorded the last bit of sports/commentary/news and no show. Sometimes they put it on afterwards, but typically the episode in question was just cancelled. I remember driving home and seeing billboards for the show with the UPN 7pm on in them only for time and time again for it not to be aired. I think I managed to see about 3-4 episodes, most of them repeats, then gave up in frustration. If you want to watch it now, it is on KZread. I think it is (mostly) worthwhile.
Well this is one nice video
It's s shame that Dilbert ended up the way it did. It went out the same way Sonic Boom did.
I never read the comic strips either. But before the cartoon back in the beginning of the 2000s, I discovered it from its merchandise.
I always wanted to make a video on Dilbert, glad to see your take.

That white people and men are being seen in a very negative way nowadays in the west in both society and in the media and are being openly hated on and discriminated against has been really obvious for a very long time now so i dont understand how people can seriously believe that stuff does not exists. Same thing with christians so thats 3 groups of people that its perfectly fine to hate these days and nobody cares.
Huh, how does one make animation in a series that takes place in a mundane office stand out (aside from the intro)?

Hey Roger Rabbit fans out there, you guys should make a fan-made Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2D animated spin-off series call: The Most Fun Jessica And Holli Experience Of A Lifetime! and the quality of it needs to be overall breath-takingly Disney-tastic to behold than your usual low-budgeted fan-made projects these days, it'll genuinely make you feel like you're actually watching an official Who Framed Roger Rabbit? 2D animated spin-off series! Also later on in the spin-off both Jessica Rabbit and Holli Would from Cool World start to have feelings for each other and after thinking about it for a little while, they both decided to start a cartoon lesbian relationship with each other and they both not only party out at THE most epic modern day girls-only cartoon night club ever in existence, but they also work there as well as sexy night club dancers!

I think that maybe the show ended because the final episode was about Dilbert getting pregnant
I recently came back to some of the comics and the TV Show because i used to love the TV show back when it came out thinking it was a really good fresh take on what the Simpsons and other shows for adults did like South Park. But im afraid that i found out that the show is kinda boring at times or goes literally nowhere and most of the jokes depends on you knowing exactly what are the references and the time that the show and the comic first came out to fully understand most of the jokes, some are quite timeless yeah but some others are really dated or doesnt stick the landing the way it should. And its a shame because i always thought this show had something going on and had a special unique way of doing what other shows in the future were going to do, for example Dilbert did the cutaway jokes that are the main thing that Family Guy is known for nowdays, but in comparison with Family Guy they doesnt have that "punch" or effective "HA! i get it!" effect that Family Guy does with this gimmick, yeah Dilbert doesnt fully relays on this like Family Guy does but they are weak and sometimes leaves you with "wait, what was that?" and not like you fully understood why that cutaway gag was there. Another thing i noticed is that it kinda did what The Office did with having a colorful cast of different stereotypes that eventually develops a very distinct character over the course of the series, but again in comparision The Office is quick, clever, to the point, and their characters never feels annoying, like they whine a lot or just being contrarians for the sake of it in some situations, and even worse flipping characters on a dime, lots of times Dilbert feels like a whiny, entitled and way too clever homer simpson that gets bested by his own inteligence or his dog ends up doing everything for him or being more of a main character than him (the garfield/jon dilema) where Dogbert should be like a side character and not something you activedly want to see more in the show, and that's because most of the interesting character traits and stuff lies with Dogbert most of the time. Now i know that the show took a different turn from the comic because producers wanted to be like a clever different Simpsons and failed to understand what made the Simpsons succeed in the first place, but knowing the comic? it could had been even more of a flop if it was 100% identical to the comic, and i know people really loves Dilbert and the comic strip (believe me im one of those people) but over the years i kinda came to the conclusion that maybe Dilbert needs to stay on the comic pages, like Calvin and Hobbes did.
Season 1 is better than 2 imo
