"History Books" (feat. Bruce Springsteen) What's that you say? I knew you when? You don't look too much like my friend Those history books Filled up with crooks Stories I don't want to read again I've tried to live One thousand years from here When I think of it now It just brings me down When I think of you now And when I think of it now It just brings me down When I think of you now I'm keeping time One day goes by I try to live till the next one But these history books Full of haunted looks From people I don't want to see again 'Cause I've learned to live But they try to hold me here When I think of it now It just brings me down When I think of it now And when I think of it now It just brings me down When I think of you now You just remind me of the Nights of smoke and dirty jokes Darkened rooms with lonely ghosts And they were beautiful some time ago But time keeps rollin' us on When I think of it now It just brings me down When I think of you now And when I think of you now It just brings me down When I think of you now You just remind me of the Nights of smoke and dirty jokes Darkened rooms with lonely ghosts And they were beautiful some time ago But time keeps rollin' us on Rollin' us on Rollin' us on Rollin' us on Rollin' us on Rollin' us on

Guilty of repeat listening too! Now to start a gofundme for all the vinyl variations... but for real, so glad they're back from the dead!
"Positive Charge" was amazing and this follow up is killer. The themes from each track seem to be so poignant to me right now specifically. At 35, I am watching my grandparents get close to their twilight, seeing my parents entering a senior stage, watching my kids grow up, and feeling myself get older, the nostalgia of the past seems simultaneously happy and agonizing. Both songs really kind of speak to both angles individually. I can't wait for the album. I remember listening to them for pretty much years straight after the release of Sink or Swim.

I'm 41 and same reaction. It's an age for seeking purpose and moving forward and keeping the past in the past. These songs hit that feeling of not being young and having a new perspective. I think Brian Fallon's in his early 40's, so maybe this is by design. 😂

@@JaredHope I started listening to Gaslight anthem in 2008 when I moved to Spain after law school (to be with a girl I met in 2002 studying abroad. Spoiler: we're still together). I got married as one album dropped, went through a rough patch in my marriage as Get Hurt came out. Had two kids when all the first two solo albums came out (including one on the release date of Sleepwalkers ). Cried over a baby we lost in lockdown when Local Honey came out. My wife was pregnant with our now third when Night Divine came out and we saw Fallon here in Madrid a month before she was born. When my grandfather died (of Alzheimer's) in April "1930" came up in my random songs and I wept as Fallon sang, "she said 'I love you more than the stars in the sky, but your name just escapes me tonight'." It's been the soundtrack to my adult life. Here's to hoping that whatever awaits us in life, whether good bad or divine, is accompanied by a Gaslight Anthem/Fallon/Horrible Crowes album.

@@BikesAndBatallas, incredible comment and I totally agree. First, I'm sorry for the loss you've had to go through. A lot of what you say is familiar. I met my wife in law school and was listening to TGA when I decided to propose. We played some of the 59 Sound album at our wedding. We're about to hit 12 years together and so much of our life together has a memory with TGA playing. God bless and I couldn't agree more about the special things music can do in your life.

@@BikesAndBatallas Brian Fallon has a real knack for trapping life within his songs. I see a lot of people who mention guys like Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, etc. as the best songwriters of the modern generation, but Fallon is clearly up there with the best of them, if not beyond.
Oh my god, it is so perfect. This song is perfect. This song is everything. I am getting married in two weeks and I am seeing The Gaslight Anthem in September and the new album comes out in October and this is literally perfect. I'm so happy this band is back.

This is one of the most New Jersey songs I've ever heard. Vote to make this our state anthem!
Absolutely legendary. Not just new and revitalized Gaslight, but Springsteen on their album. So cool to hear one of Brian's heroes singing along with him.
I've been a Bruce fan since 1978. It makes me so happy to see Brian and the boys carrying on Bruce's torch while clearly blazing their own path with their own distinctive sound.
Bruce was the reason I got into Gaslight Anthem, a band inspired by the New Jersey King. Its all come full circle now they have this amazing song with their hero

Badass song and a 1984 Hurst Olds with lightning rod shifters to boot!!!
Brilliant and classic Gaslight song. The fact Bruce ASKED Brian to write a duet is class - the fact Brian wrote this beauty is amazing. This makes the world a better place.

This song is like a therapy. Do not read your own hystory book over and over again. You will miss the beauty of today. thanks Brian. Thanks Bruce 🎉
You know, just your normal guest appearance by Bruce Springsteen, just like your average little local rock band. 😉 Awesone song TGA, we are so happy to have you back 🤗 can't wait for the album drop.
Im thinking the boy is Brian. Blue jeans and white t shirt, singing with his hero.❤
That guitar is so fresh, while still sounding like gaslight. And THAT BRIDGE. My god I love it
I can’t wait for this new record. I actually loved Get Hurt and it’s been 9 years since that. Followed Brian solo career but nothing beats the Gaslight Anthem
Love it. Brian's singing with his hero, 33rpm
Such a gift this band came back…..this cannot be stressed enough. Some of the most treasured and meaningful music of my entire life and always will be. AND as AMAZING of a band as I’ve ever seen live. Thank you Brian and the boys and I cannot wait to hear the rest of the new stuff and get to the next show. Love you

What can be better than a song release of TGA feat. Bruce Springsteen on a weekend that is full of joyful expectations when The Boss in Munich will play his music repertoire on Sunday. I will demand History Books, which definitely has to be part of it.
I listened to this originally and thought it was ok. Just heard it again and it's a cracking tune. Good work boys and boss 👍
Ask me in 2010 if I ever thought The Boss would feature on a TGA song and I'd have told you it was impossible. Find me some 13 years and a lifetime of 'impossible' events later and I'd say here's your impossible young man. Hell of a track. Thank you boys.

Amazing!
Guys, you're awesome! Thank you very much for staying together and creating something new. Keep on rocking!
You think how the ladies are dressed in red, white and blue are a throw back to "American Girl"?
The night this was uploaded I was so frustrated at the video but after some time it seems to make sense to me (something I gave up on previously). You could say maybe it's the interpretation or my desire to *understand* the art but I think it whole heartedly makes sense with the history of the band and the fact Brian's wife had a hand in the video which helps because she can understand the history from the outside looking in while the band is looking at it from the inside looking out. The girl dancing is the band's beginning. Carefree, wild, etc. Lacking color because it's the past and although relevant, it's a modern day ghost. The girl in black is the backlash/vale of negative feedback that seems to have plagued the band/Brian. The women in red with the car are the route the band could've taken by signing contracts and deals for more money/professional opportunities (choosing money over the art or misery over the love of the craft basically short term gain over long term happiness). The woman in blue referred to as Mae by others is essentially the band witnessing their story and decisions. Which explains the indecisiveness walking back and forth and being emotional while witnessing the other characters. This explains the woman in white not acknowledging the woman in blue, the woman in blue not necessarily acknowledging the woman in black aside from her peripheral (similar to the band with their critics) and the women in red not acknowledging the woman in blue while the woman in blue basically stares down the women in red searching for acknowledgement but indecisive. To cap it off the woman in blue breaks down at the sight of the child which is basically the innocence of it all that started the band and remains today which is the overall catalyst in the band's HISTORY. Where they're at today, why they exist in the first place. This was a video I didn't enjoy or felt I understood until now. I fricken love it. The lyrics, Bruce, the video. It shows a serious intention that shows they understand where they started, where they've been, and where theyre at now. Wildly genius in my opinion and so exciting because although The Gaslight Anthem has always been the flag runner for rock N' roll to me this is absolutely new ground not only for them but for a band PERIOD. They could never rewrite the wheel for rock but to take that genre and right a new history for a band in their position? Its new. Its fresh. Its original and very self aware.
Terrific song. A ‘Halloween’ vibe at the beginning, culminating with a nod to The ‘59 Sound. Outstanding.
