The Gaskets were Leaking! | 400EX Build

Today I'm going to be replacing the top end gaskets because they started leaking! In this video I try and explain how i replaced my head gasket and valve cover gasket! Its a pretty simple and straightforward process, it just a matter of getting it done as it is kinda time consuming. If your a veteran at mechanics than it will be a breeze for you, but if your like me and still a novice then it will take some time.
Don't drop anything down the timing chain hole! If you end up dropping something down that hole and cant fish it out like I did then you will have to crack the bottom case and tear the motor all the way down! it would ruin anyone's day to have this happen! SO be extra careful when pulling the nut and bolt on that side of the motor!

I shove a clean rag in to the timing chain chasm before removing bolts in the top end. saved me multiple times

I would definitely recommend doing this lol looking stuff down there is a nightmare
The piece on the cam that was moving is the compression reliever that works only when cranking so it’s fine as long as it all goes back together the way it supposed to

Great job! This vid helped me a lot I have a question tho I have the same Trx400ex with a valve cover leak i have like 3 stripped bolts so I put a new gasket with gasket maker and put helix coil to the bolts that were stripped and the bike still leaks oil what should I do ?

Honestly if it was me I wouldn't risk it leaking more oil and I would replace the whole top end, but if your in bind and get afford it I would just keep it topped up with oil. Mine leaked for a while and I never had any issues just kept it topped up

Because it's easy to strip the holes in the aluminum so if you get a new head you shouldn't have any issues

@@AthenasGarageOffical thanks for the help but honestly I can’t afford a new top end right now and I’m selling the bike too so what do you recommend me to do something to try to stop the leak ? I just order some new tusk gaskets should I put gasket maker or what should I put on the new valve cover gasket so it won’t leak ? And I will always try to put new valve cover bolts with helicoil

I would try that spray a gasket. Copper stuff it worked really good for my situation, of that doesnt work you could try some rtv but it's not very pretty
Any idea what all the big o rings that come with the top end gasket are for

It was for me only because I didn't want to have Another leak and I didn't !
hey sorry i know this is an old video but did you worry about timing at all? some other videos they put the motor at top dead center

Yes I think I did, or that may have been when I replaced the actual top end. It's been awhile so I'm not entirely sure but it's a good bet to do so
