The Gangs of Papua New Guinea
Ойын-сауық
Police violently battling murderous gangs. Endemic violence, extreme poverty, obscene wealth and corruption on all levels. Welcome to Port-Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Last summer, a settling of scores between tribal clans left 32 dead. But that is nothing compared to what’s going on in the city. Here the police wage a merciless war against the Raskols gangs. In 2020, Port Moresby was ranked the 2nd most violent capital city in the world, just behind Caracas, Venezuela.
Women in particular pay a high price for this violence. 80% of men admit to beating their wives regularly. One in two women will be raped during their lifetime. There are only a few shelters they can turn to and their attackers are rarely prosecuted.
Corruption is also rife and for those with the right connections, PNG is an El Dorado. Thanks to its rich mineral deposits, the capital has experienced an unrivalled real estate boom in the past 10 years.

Here's an idea... Steal it back. If he can steal it from you, he can steal it back. There's never "no options" it's even worse cause he knows how it feels to be stolen from. And instead of standing up for himself he victimized an innocent person who had nothing to do with it. Wow it kinda sounds like cops are similar all over the world.

Yes but that’s a little simplified. The lost paradise is everywhere, on every continent. The male, violent ape gene rules this planet since the dawn of civilization. USA is no different, just a little more under the cover of sophistication, appearance of democracy, but in the End the violence prone psychopath narcissistic male ape gene rules the planet. This also why despite technology and high minded efforts in art and philosophy humanity cannot evolve. It is now becoming increasingly destructive to the whole planetary eco system. If I met some alien superior intelligence and they would ask me what should happen to humanity, keep them going or have them go extinct, I would rather have extinction. The good humanity has created shrinks increasingly against the evil. Preserve the beautiful planet, because it is rare, get rid of the human race. Prepare the planet to host a more deserving species. Those humans able to evolve and willing to do so might have a second chance, but as a small minority among another species more capable of empathy and compassion.

No wonder there is so much crime. Corrruption everywhere, the way the police acts innocents might be driven to crime. And when poor people see how the few rich thrive they get understandibly jealous. That leeds to crime. As long as the rest of the world looks away and destroys (like in many other countries, Borneo for example) the environment. It is just sad. I rather not speak about the tourists...

The underlying cause of all of the wildfires across the globe is from cutting down the old growth forests. This is because the old growth is resistant to fire.. The wind can't penetrate, and the canopy shades the forest floor.. The canopy is high, and the lower branches have fallen away, so there isn't a fire ladder.. With the big trees gone, the winds come in at ground level, the soil is dried out, and the trees themselves are dried out.. The dry conditions are killing many trees, and the fires are burning much of the remaining timber. The air pollution is causing many health problems.. The timber barons and their heirs should be held responsible...

You’re right and in a perfect world they would be stopped and penalized but it’s not and the truth is the governments depend heavily on money from natural resources in underdeveloped countries. Also they have no infrastructure to prosecute or penalize anyone anyway. Not having the civil war, in some countries, fall on your doorstep is your biggest worry so keep you head down work. You don’t have time to anyway because you have to work really hard and provide for you and yours, don’t get in the business of others

it's been going that way since 1975, and been getting worse annually. The corruption etc is ingrained, well and truly. It's going the same way as some African countries once all power was handed over. PNG is a tribal country, that's the way it works. If you are not in the correct tribe, you are out of luck. Rules and laws exist, things can be found in your favour.... try to get it enforced. There will always be a problem or an excuse.
Could have been cool. With subtitles. Or dubbing.

I don’t understand how you film those Maserati guards secretly then expose them on you tube. Aren’t you going to get them into trouble? I have seen it with other you tubers too.

One good documentary and strangely, no one puts emphasis on betel nut consumption by the majority, except a snippet at the end. Just an observation.

Love the documentary - thank you for filming and sharing it... at the same time, I am absolutely disgusted by the tourists filming the festival/ gathering as though they are watching zoo animals. I think there's a way to contribute financially without treating people like they are zoo animals - they should be ashamed of themselves.

Aqui no Brasil é assim também, forçam os nativos a viverem na idade da pedra sem acesso a nada como se fossem bichos no zoológico graças a pressão internacional da Europa e Estados Unidos.

you go there later, with the poor people for Eu 3, and see if you have anything left. The reason for the zoo fence was to keep the rich people safe. If the rich people get screwed over, no more festivals, no more money. Simple. I lived there. You will be screwed over for as much as they can carry, if given a chance.
