If you think Balatro couldn't get more time consuming, the dev has confirmed a mobile port sometime in the future.

Aye I saw that. Dangerous. I only have one game on my phone and it's Pawnbarian for rare moments when there's no signal or wifi and I need something to do

It's on mobile already, good luck for everyone that won't sleep ever again. BTW Slay The Spire is also on mobile, in case anyone wants to know. I feel most people don't understand how many great games are on android since play store does a very poor job showing us new and specially great games. It's always like "Go play some Diablo Immortal 😠🫵"

Speaking of "More time in video game=Better video game" can I just talk about how grateful I am to games like Balatro and Monster train letting me set the in-game speed to unreasonably fast levels. Because if your game is good, yes, I would like to chop down the animations to fit in even more playing time for it, isn't that the greatest endorsement possible?

Good point. The animations are very pretty and all, but if you're a gameplay junky like me, you gotta crank that up to 4x. I guess that's more about maximising your time in a game, which some games don't know how to do/don't want to do

Great Video, I like Balatro more than Slay the spire. Feels like it has more accessible playstyle variety. Slay the spire has more enemy types and elites. But Balatro is focused so much on crafting and refining your deck and experimenting more way more slay the spire is more punishing. I like Balatro because I don't have to be a card game expert or a expert mathematician to have fun and win and the card unlocks are fun you "discover" cards by using them and trying everything at least once to get a feel of what I like. Balatro is just so much fun. I think it's because the Antes are scaled nicely where as Slay the spire has like 4 levels of scaling you usually get past 1st boss usually slime and then the 2nd wave on is where the difficulty spike kicks in and elites start tanking and high multiples of enemies that cause unavoidable damage.

Thank you. They definitely cater to different types of gamers. I think they both hit the same key notes and then divert. As you say, Slay's difficulty curve is more dramatic towards the end whereas Balatro is more gentle with jumps for the boss battles but they're far more regular and so don't feel as sudden. It's funny though, I feel like I need to do more maths playing Balatro than Slay. Slay will tell you before you make a play how much damage you're going to do as the card text changes in realtime when you select it. When I'm on my last hand or two in Balatro I'm like "well that's the hand score, the card score is this and then there's the jokers" and I have to muse it out a bit more haha.

Slay the spire has that annoying cringe reddit type humor aka "le funnies", Balatro has none of that, only gameplay. Plus in Balatro, cards are not representations of attacks or spells, but are literal cards. These alone make Balatro a better game. I actually feel like I am at a casino instead of being in a badly written DnD campaign.

Podcastability comes down to how essential the sound design is in the implication of the game - or an inverse-proportion of how much of an objective banger the soundtrack itself is... the more of a banger the soundtrack is, the more integral it is to the enjoyment of the game and the less "podcastable" it is. Can you podcast through Shovel Knight or Sonic Mania? I think not.

True though even with a banger soundtrack, if I put enough hours in, I'll end up switching it out. Definitely on the design implication. Souls and souls likes aren't very podcastable but also games that idk if you would even want to podcast if you could y'know? Balatro is arcadey and so a good pod doesn't lessen the experience, I feel.

It's definitely a good one. Any one that you can add xMult to with a certain action is an absolute keeper.

Game is brilliant. Favorite jokers are the ones that give +mult or x mult each time you use a planet or tarot card.

Funnily enough I just had my best run yet last night using the x mult for planet. It was that, x mult for adding cards to deck, plus x mult for uncommon cards and a blueprint to duplicate that. got pretty mad towards the end, beat most rounds in 1 hand haha

I’m in love with is game, and I don’t like card games. I like to play this while watching/listening to true crime. I’ve only been playing it for a few days now. Favorite joker so far is the one that lets you do flushes or straights with only 4 cards. Excellent video. I’m subscribing.

How did you get on with my 7 minute long video? 😂😂 I think it does accelerate if you have an action with a lot of effects. I'd almost like an "instant mode" where it flashes all the multipliers in effect with the sound of a gong sound haha
