I'm not a huge fan of either the real Lee or the Lee-alikes, but the set is mostly good with only a few titles I could've done without. Some of them are slightly better than I remembered, and a handful aren't even Bruce Clone pictures they just have an actor or two who played the real Lee. When these movies came out, they were better received in Taiwan than Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, they were largely despised, although a couple of the Bruce Li pictures made money because the scripts were respectful to the material in those instances. I wrote a 2-part article series for my site about these movies this past January and included a lot of box office figures and other behind the scenes information. The individuals on the set, though, give the impression these movies were loved in HK and they were not. Most of Bruce Le's movies never even played in HK. I saw Mitch mention BRUCE LEE AND I (1976), which he didn't like; but it's actually one of the most factual of the sub-genre, and quite well made by award winning director John Lo Mar. The real Lee was arrogant and self-destructive but the HK audience loved him no matter what. Betty Ting Pei, though, they genuinely hated her guts. The documentary in the set was quite good, and if you're not familiar with the movies, it's a good place to start before watching any of the movies. The best movie in the set for me is CHALLENGE OF THE TIGER. It's not a Bruce clone movie, but it's easily Bruce Le's best movie he ever did, imo. DRAGON LIVES AGAIN I enjoyed slightly better than the last time I saw it. Many love that one, but its pacing and direction sabotages its wacky premise. THE BIG BOSS PART II is really the holy grail of these films due to its rarity, so I'm not sure why Severin to promote that title more based solely on how rare it is; which is funny since it was heavily promoted back in 1976. It's a poor film and when it came out in HK in 1978, few went to see it. The co-feature on that disc, THE BLACK DRAGON VS THE YELLOW TIGER, is a rare film too, starring the first actor to imitate Bruce Lee, that being Alexander Lo's older brother, Lo Chen, aka Tong Lung. I agree with Robert that the plain paper sleeve was a poor choice of packaging. Actually, I wasn't high on the packaging at all, really. The cardboard sleeves seemed too tight-fitting to me, that could potentially cause scratching. Back to the films... THE DRAGON LIVES is among the most wildly inaccurate of these things, bordering on surrealist cinema at times. But then director Wang Sing Lei wasn't known for action; he was more of a drama guy who took longer to make movies than the indy companies that employed him would've liked. There's also a bizarre sequence where the filmmakers take a shot at Chang Cheh, making fun of his style of heroic death scenes. Another Li flick, GOODBYE BRUCE LEE, aka NEW GAME OF DEATH, has an interesting plot and has some funny moments, but is mostly mediocre. It's an independent film, but the Shaw Brothers distributed it in HK in 1975 presumably as a warm-up for their BRUCE LEE AND I that was filming in 1975 and released in early 76. The two Dragon Lee movies I could do without. DRAGON ON FIRE I hadn't seen in a few decades and it's still awful. Totally bizarre, and just plain awful; and he's only a supporting player in it. The other one RAGE OF THE DRAGON put me to sleep. ENTER THREE DRAGONS was moderately better, and it's also known as DRAGON ON FIRE. CLONES OF BRUCE LEE is the one most people like. It's grown on me a bit, despite its bonkers plotline; it's the action that bores me. It's mostly plain with little variation in design. It has its moments though. ENTER THE GAME OF DEATH is one of Le's most enjoyably over the top movies and has the same plot of most all of the ones he performed in. BRUCE AND THE IRON FINGER, which isn't a Clone flick, is a good KF murder mystery with good action. SUPER DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY I hated back when I first saw it in the late 1980s. Seeing it again now, and in widescreen, it's intriguing solely from the standpoint of how they framed events in Lee's life. The action is some of the poorest executed, but I found myself appreciating the exploitation value more than I had.

Thanks for chiming in -- as a kid I loved Bruce Lee but soon became a bigger fan of Jackie Chan and his legacy.... I mostly wanted to check out the Documentary but then I figured after watching it I would be curious about the movies so best to get the set and help support their efforts - I suppose the big question will be how many of us return again for Vol 2 or not.

I'm kinda torn on this one. I love Bruce Lee and documentaries n such on him. Dragon: A Bruce Lee Story, The Legend Of Bruce Lee (the Chinese TV series on Netflix) etc. But I dunno if I can get behind this box set. I feel like it disrespects Master Lee and his legacy. Studios trying to make a cash grab off of him n such? Yeah... I don't think I'll get this one. I will say though, for the people who can appreciate this, it IS a nice box, design wise. All the art is nice and it looks like Severin took great care to make it awesome for collectors.

I actually think to view the whole Bruceploitation movement as disrespectful is too simplistic, and I will say it was a view I used to share with you. What I will say is you definitely should watch the documentary, Enter the clones of Bruce. It's hands down the best and most brilliantly produced documentary I've seen in years.

Thanks for watching -- I suppose it's a slippery slope like even non-brucesploitation movies like Game of Death cashed in and sometimes not tastefully like using actual Bruce Lee funeral footage in a movie. I know these movies arent high quality and will probably lead more to laughs than anything else.... there will always be knockoff movies and genres like James Bond and Star Wars -- I suppose it's up to you to pick your poison - even Shaw Bros and Jackie Chan have clone movies and actors.

@CoinOpTV I dunno my friend, I'm just not a fan of people profiting from the Death or harm of others. I am a very empathetic person, I don't like to see other people suffer or be taken advantage of or evil things happen. I feel like Master Lee would be quite insulted by all of these people trying to copy him, steal his likeness, and make money off of it. As a fellow Martial Artist I wouldn't want it done to me either. Some people might see it as a "tribute" or "keeping his memory alive" etc etc. But the big companies that profit from the films don't actually care about any of that. They only care about lining their pockets. Documentaries are different IMO though. As they're not pretending to be him or trying to sell it like it's a new "Bruce Lee Film". They're just talking about his life and achievements.

i’ve watched two movies so far and like you said the so-called remastering seems to be very minimal …. i heard one movie has a constant yellow stripe thru the center of the picture that flashes from time to time ….. the extras are cool and it’s fun to see these movies for the first time but definitely all about the nostalgia!
