The timer system is aggravating. Cutting off people while they are thanking their deceased coworkers is beyond a d*ck move. Geoff saying no one got cut off despite people clearly being forced to stop their speeches by the music is wrong as well. The system is even worse when you consider some people either have English as a seocnd language or directly need a translator. The whole system sucks, and the only reason it made it out of the review stage is because it gave them more time to sell ads for money.

So many trailers could be summed up with three words: Sci-fi, armor, guns. Also really annoyed how many categories had no fanfare at all and were done rapid-fire. It's like they didn't care about the awards at all.

Nobody would watch game awards without game reveals. Who cares half of these mofo devs are woke anyway.

If TGA is really so pressed for time they could simply disallow cinematic trailers with no gameplay for games that just began preproduction and won't release for another three years (if at all). That alone would free up to 60+ minutes.

Nobody cares about some random indie game dev giving a 20 minute speech except for maybe 100 of the 300k+ people, they're looking for game announcements and trailers. If anything they should cut the poor attempts at Keanu Reeves-ing and just get on with the awards bit to fit more game reveals.

Game awards disrespecting award winners by giving them less time to speak than trailers for games already released is a complete joke.

Gripes about the timer for acceptance speeches aside, this year's TGA alongside The Golden Joystick Awards pretty much cemented Baldur's Gate 3 as *the* premier game of the year across the board. BG3 swept both shows, and Larian has got to be riding high as a kite right now. I can't wait to see what their next project is gonna be.

Not really. Thing is, there's no specific category for best Expansion/update, so it makes sense puting it on Ongoing category. Then between the games on the list the update and expansion of Cyberpunk did way more for the game than the update of the others. That's why it wins. Something similar did happen with No Mans Sky back then. They should create a category for "Best games to revisit" or something, for expansions, dlc and updates like that in my opinion

There were so many times I was physically uncomfortable, slumping down in my seat hoping a segment would end... Sean Murray's new game reveal speech, the sweet Japanese woman trying her best to reveal her game (while reverting a charicature of Japanese TV show hosts), Anthony Mackie's constant sidebar convos with a few audience members, Neil Newbon (someone fans wanted to hear from) being rushed off the stage in favor of Matthew Mcconaughey, nonstop jokes about the length of Judge's speech last year, yet another Gonzo muppet bit, etc. etc. etc... Please Geoff, stop pandering to Hollywood, make sure people you invite to talk actually have something to say, and allow the show to be awards & reveals. That's really all anyone is interested in anyway.

Still should have gotten GotY. I get the appeal of Baldur's Gate 3, but TotK deserved it more as it took EVERYTHING BotW did, perfected what needed to be perfected, tweaked what needed to be tweaked, kept what worked as is, and added so many new layers of gameplay with the Ultrahand, fuse, and ascend ability

It's just paid advertising. We're not in the business of appreciating talent. We're in the business of having voters invested to sit through game advertisements. Just because they're ads for games, we shouldn't forget they're just ads.

Aside from Baldur's Gate 3 winning GoTY this was the worst Game Awards by a mile. Half of it was advertisements and the timer system blatantly telling people to "wrap it up" felt like a Monty Python skit.
