The future Royal Enfield Bullet meets a 500 Bullet!

Friend Trav has bought a nice Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500! so we met up to go a ride and swapping bikes on the ride we compared both the Bullet and the New Classic 350
I refer to the new classic as the future Bullet as it will be a Classic 350 Reborn with different seat and rear mudguard with Bullet badges when it arrives in the UK!
If you enjoyed this check out my playlist for my Royal enfield Classic 350, thanks!

I am from India.. I am also a owner of RE Bullet Std500 UCE Twinspark 2015 model but with "Carburetor engine". Unfortunately now due to strict BS6 pollution norms the company stopped the production of both 500cc Bullet Std & Classic models. I feel very lucky that I have a pure "Retro" bullet with simple Carburetor, No digital meters, No efi & sensors, no ABS, no Alloy, no tubeless tyres etc. Its always a great satisfaction & feeling when I move on roads & offroads with a cruising speed on my Bullet Std500.

Enjoyed your comparison Bruce regarding the two bikes and liked all the comment's from your subscribers. Your mate's bike looks great and certainly has character. I've never ridden a 500 bullet. However i do like my 350 Classic for its smooth engine and very easy handling. To help the bikes power to weight ratio , I've slightly reduced its weight by removing the rear seat and pegs and even shed several pounds myself😂. But like you I would like to see 500 version of the Classic for that extra power. Thanks again.

A nice comparison of the classic and the bullet. I almost bought the 350 classic dark and then remembered the last 500 classic the Tribute black, i looked around and found one last March with 278 miles on the clock, I love it for its old school charm.

Interesting comparison, and one I made today at my local dealer. I have a Classic 500 and took out a Classic 350 reborn. I wanted to see if it was going to be worth me trading in my 4 year old 500 for a shiny 350. I've concluded that the change isn't going to happen. The engine in the 350 is super smooth and the gearbox is as good as any other I've ridden and better than a lot of more expensive machines. Looks wise, well it's every bit as pretty as my Classic. For me that's where the good points stop. I found the riding position too cramped for my six foot frame and the lack of torque was disappointing. I could get used to the power but the riding position was too much of a compromise. Strangely I've ridden a Meteor 350 and found that bike both livelier and a lot roomier. I understand how people love the 350 though, especially if they haven't owned or ridden 500, even with its foibles.

That was yet another great video Bruce. Thank you. I really do regret trading out of my 2008, iron barrel, 5-speed, 500 "Army" all those years ago. What a foolish mistake that was and how I wish I still owned that cracking bike !!! It was one of the last carburetor bikes too and was such a pleasant, economical commuter and tourer. I'm really considering returning to Royal Enfield nowadays, as the bikes just seem to stay so useable and reliable for not too much money and they continually but sensibly improve. Great videos. Please keep them coming.

That’s a lovely 500. I would love one, but nor with my wee leggies. The decals and badge on tank are lovely. Think i need to look at saddle bags, for Bumble. Enjoyed the scenery, such a nice part of the country. Now I feel bad. Even my granny can put it on centre stand. I can’t due to being too sore on my abdomen.😢 I need to go try that technique Bruce. Pity I can’t see where you position your feet.😅 I just have a big smile on my face watching these bikes. The beautiful sound when riding, so cool. I meant for you to have a go on Bumble. Hopefully next year. Oh loved that bridge down on the harbour, parking next to the creels, lol, we did too.😊 Best regards……Mark.

I'm with you all the way on this one. Now, I grasp the concept (I'm not necessarily waving the flag for it) that these engines must be tweaked and tuned to comply with increasingly stringent emission standards - You can send your postcard to the World Economic Forum for that one. To the CEO of Royal Enfield, should your eyes grace this message, remember the iconic bike designs that propelled you to fame. I'm all for modern reliability, but for heaven's sake, keep the essence of classic bikes intact! Now, onto biggest thorn in my side - the exhaust note of the new J series engines, dubbed 'classic reborn'. Frankly, they sound as thrilling as your average Japanese plastic blow-dryers. And what choice do the buyers have? None, but to swap out the exhaust and catalytic converters for a free-flowing pipe, just to recapture a hint of the true Royal Enfield classic rumble. This is the classic tale of losing your soul in the quest to juggle too many balls.

Hopefully the Bullet 500 wiring loom has also been improved compared to the one fitted to my '93 one. When the electrical problems started after 6 years that was the point where I gave up on it due to the "interesting" way they made the loom. Hopefully the EFI does not have the problem I had where the bike continually retarded itself over time. 🤣 I still have fond memories of it, especially the neutral-finder, and it looked absolutely stunning when I fitted a single seat, deeper-valanced front 'guard and vintage hard panniers.

Watching hitchcocks dna filter vid and I.m Almost convinced. But then I rarely ride full throttle on 350 anyway. Was looking at the graph and most of gain is north of 3500. Then I think we'll that's 100 quid. I can spend it on fuel. If I want to go fast I can get a bigger bike. Another difference in the bikes is speedo on my 500trials is near spot on. 350 usual 10% ish high. It's rare you get an accurate speedo. Always assumed its to keep you on safe side.

Every bike has its performance and handling range. If you accept the 350 for what it is, all's good. If people want a sports or motorway tourer, they'll be disappointed. The 500 is a great looking machine, and every time I see Bullet Wanderer's I want one. Back in reality, I rarely use A roads never mind M-ways. RE will probably make a bigger single at some point, and it'll almost certainly be water-cooled to get round emissions.

@Coastriderscotland I thought he said your throttle was jerky, and you replied that it was first-generation fuel injection. I love my bike, but it is not super smooth. When I accelerate up to speed and then roll off just to maintain or slow a bit, it lurches between speeding up and slowing down. Carburetors and vinyl music are analog...transitions are smooth, low resolution fuel injection, like digital images and music seems plagued with digital artifacts.

My classic 500 is just fine by me and losing ANY hp or torque by "upgrading" to the new 350 isn't gonna happen. I live at a mile high elevation in the US and, that alone sucks power out of any normally aspirated engine. They're wonderful machines as long as one doesn't expect more than they can give.
