I always found it interesting that Davros was the last of the Kaleds yet wasn't bothered by this at all. He clearly hates his creation but keeps supporting them out of some weird sense of pride.

In the big finish audio book "I.Davros" its about his life from childhood to this. Its so good. Davros loved live, he found creatures fascinating, so when the kaleds started to change he embraced it because it was a new form of life. In much aspects he is very much like the doctor but a bit more twisted lol 😆

Have always remembered that scene and how frightened it made me. Cleverly done, of course. A simple build up, a sliding screen, a ghastly green lamp, a gurgling sound and after that the fertile imagination of a child takes over. Not that I was ever truly scared since I couldn't really envisage in any way what was actually in that room only that it had to be really bad judging by the reactions. Much more effective than making up monster out of green foam and slime. Enjoyed seeing it again.

Right, a time when there wasn't all the flash bang special effects and story telling had to be paramount. These days story doesn't matter its all special effects and "the message!!!" and that is why sci-fi today sucks. I'd love to see a Dalek story set in the darker times for the Daleks. By this I mean, during the time period before The Daleks had been effected by the Time War. Maybe have a bigger return for the Renegades or Imperials. Or maybe we'd see a story set before the creation of the Daleks and expand on what life was like before Davros. (This probably was done in Big Finish I, Davros - but I think it'd be interesting to see it on screen) Genesis has always been a favourite of mine.

It would be interesting if there was more about how the later Daleks got so advanced and powerful. They ended up basically beating the Gallifreyans. I would have always predicted the Daleks would never get to that level, they even eventually built that void ship that was way beyond Gallifreyan tech
@annapocalypsezero4719

Well, it was through sheer single minded dedication. You don't achieve the insane goal of galatic domination by being angry lol. They advanced their tech without thought for anything but conquest and survival. They are also far smarter than they are often portrayed. Their dedication made their tech jump a lot. They would for example make a very unstable nuclear reactor that leaked and killed thousands of daleks a week as long as it progressed their goal. Dedication like that once it takes hold is very hard to stop.

Genesis Of The Daleks is a timeless reminder of how much more enjoyable Doctor Who was for me when it was a more serious show. Especially thanks to Tom Baker during the Philip Hinchcliffe era.
Those stunts that Tom Baker did though! You wouldn't see a modern Doctor being pushed to the floor!
We don't get writing and pure sci-fi like this anymore on the small screen. Amazing stuff!
On the one hand, I’ve always been curious to see a story about what was the original cause of the war between the Thals and the Kaleds. However, much like the origin of the forehead bumps of the Klingons in “Star Trek”, I accept that, in all likelihood, no answer any writer is likely to come up with would ever be satisfactory … and so much like Worf said in the Deep Space 9 story where they went back in time to “The Trouble With Tribbles”, when asked the question how the bumps happened, he simply said, “We don’t talk about it.”

I've always felt that both sides started the war and that it was over territory and ideology of some kind. Their war and how it turned out is proof that people need to use peaceful methods to resolve disputes as possible and not end up like the Thals and Kaleds.

@@pika_dusk It was the result of Klingons becoming aware of Augments (super humans like Kahn created in the late 20th century) but the Klingons believed the Augments were a current development and began to try develop Augments of their own using their DNA, however because the Augments has human DNA the Klingons lost their ridges and became more ambitious/aggressive (that's why the Klingons in the original series behaved differently to the ones in TNG or DS9) eventually the mutation became a virus that spread from Klingon to Klingon giving them a much more human appearance, but after medical intervention the harmful effects of the virus were removed and the physical change would disappear in a generation or two.

@@captainbeaky They were still around at the end of the original "The Daleks" serial when William Hartnell`s Doctor wiped the Daleks out (on Skaro anyway). John Pertwee`s Doctor encountered some Space travelling Thals much later on another planet who knew of Earth as a legend. So the Thal`s must have rebuilt some sort of civilization on Skaro after the original serial though perhaps abandoned it for a much less abused planet later once they developed space travel. Of course they might have been wiped out by some of the off-world Daleks later (at some point before Hartnell's Doctor arrived the Skaro Daleks appear to have sent out a number of colony ships beyond the Skaro system) but we don't really know for sure though the Daleks seem to have returned to Skaro multiple times.

@@richardruff8712 According to Terry Nation himself, some of the Kaled's did Survive the Destruction of the Dome, and found Davros's notes and some MK2 Travel Device Prototypes in the Ruined City, and became the Daleks we saw in "The Daleks" through to "Evil of the Daleks", the Skaro Daleks, with that all happening in the 1000 Years while the Bunker (Renegade) Daleks built their Army. The Thals mating with the Muto's is also what cancelled out the Mutations and resulted in the "Aryan" Thals seen in "The Daleks" and "Planet of the Daleks", an Irony given that the Kaleds, being "Space Nazis", would have had Aryan as their image of Perfection, yet it was mating with the "Imperfect" Muto's that turned the Thals into Aryans, while the "Pure" Kaleds....turned into Squids! Which is what got the "Dome" Daleks Mad! causing them to build a Massive Neutron Bomb to wipe out the "Mutothals", a Bomb hit by a Meteor Shower causing it to blow up Prematurely.... leaving Skaro even more Lifeless than ever.

The whole point of the story, is that Davros conducted an experiment, to find out what the final mutated form of the Kaled people would ACTUALLY be like ( of course, we now know that the Dalek creature was like an octopus ) and Davros designed a mobile life-support container, in which the octopus creature could live, and armed with a very advanced ray gun, theoretically for self defence only... Davros had only planned to ensure that the Kaled race would be able to survive... But gradually Davros modified his plans, to enable the octopus creatures to become the dominant race in the universe... That is what the Time Lords wanted to try to avoid...

So Davros had worked to try to ensure the survival of the octopus creatures, by designing some type of body armour, and the means to defend themselves...Actually, even the Doctor, in a later story, said that Davros's discovery of the final mutated form of the Kaled race, was the most impressive research that he ( the Doctor ) had EVER seen, in his 700 years !
