I think what's going on here is 'expectation'. That is, you made a video about the Brisbane Roar and you 'expected' it to be big and popular and reach a wide audience and bask in the praise that you assumed would naturally follow. And when that didn't happen your expectation was shattered and has now led you to making this video where you question whether you should go on with your channel. It all comes down to WHY are you making KZread videos... do you make them for the recognition, or do you make them because you want to? I've been making history documentaries about Brisbane for a couple of years now and to be honest I keep going regardless of how many people were watching. And I do this because the documentaries about Brisbane's history that I had seen thus far on KZread, I felt, weren't very good, so I wanted to make the kind of content that I wanted to see. I didn't do it for the recognition, I just kept pumping out the best content I could, and eventually I found my audience. Like any creative endeavour, the buck stops with the artist. Therefore, perhaps it's time to retire TBC and start a new one with the kind of content you WANT to make and are passionate about. But if you only want to make videos for the kudos and likes and subscriber numbers, then you'll keep giving up because KZread is a tough marketplace. There's an old saying, 'Don't try to be famous, just try to be profound. The fame will follow'. Well, that's my two cents worth.

Yeah, you're right. I think though, that it's more about whether I make them for my own satisfaction or for financial gain. I don't care about kudos or recognition, but I see potential for this channel as a side hustle that brings a small income to supplement my main one. At its peak, this channel paid half of my mortgage repayments. More viewers means more potential to monetise the act of making these videos (not talking Adsense alone, but rather connecting with parties who would pay to reach my audience). Doing it for the sake of making good quality content alone may be a noble thing, but my aim has been for it to be something that is worth doing financially as well. That's why an engaged and growing viewership matters to me. My struggle has always been balancing what may get views or grow the channel with what I enjoy making, and I guess I felt that the results of the Roar video pointed to the two being at odds with each other. But making that judgement based on a single video was not wise. And it's also possible that the audience for that kind of thing may not be the same audience as the one I've built here. I feel going forward that I will produce the kind of content that I want to make, that I enjoy making, and that I feel is of value. That way, if it pays off in other respects or not, it won't matter so much. I'll just focus on creating videos that I feel are of increasingly high quality that help me keep developing my skills and that keep me interested in the stories themselves. I do think over time, if I'm true to myself, I'll find my "tribe" as you have.

As you said most of this stuff can be found online but I appreciate it all being consolidated in one video (also makes it easy to send to friends etc). Perhaps you can try exploring more areas surrounding Brisbane as well, expand the focus of the channel - interviewing interesting people living here as you mentioned is a great idea.

My family and I have attended events/places from your videos alone that we may have missed. As an expat living in BNE for 10 years, whilst I love the place and it is home now...I have always thought it doesn't sell itself enough and there should be more information around whats happening and coming up. IMO, there is a space with events/cool places/sightseeing and unique takes on how to love the city and nearby areas. With the right approach you could find a passion but regardless, I think your stuff is great.

Hey mate. Thanks for the honest video. I can definitely appreciate your pain. I have had a KZread channel myself and felt the frustration that the best and proudest video performed the poorest and vice versa. I am definitely keen and interested in your insider mini documentaries. I wouldn’t mind the odd “What to do” video either. One of my favourite videos is about the Vietnamese cuisine in Inala. Full of little tips which wanted me to go and explore it myself immediately. I personally think that it would be a loss for us in Brissie but also for the wider community if your channel would cease to exist. There are so many things about your channel I like and showed also my family overseas so they can appreciate what the lifestyle here is like. You channel is IMHO pretty unique and offers information and insight into life in Brisbane. Maybe food for thoughts but tray to engage viewers to leave a comment, that way the KZread algorithm gets something to do. Another amazing video would be a “behind the scenes at Brisbane Airport”. All the best and merry Christmas. Kevin

Not to say that it has not been insightful. I watch your videos to see another persons perspective of Brisbane. I think you do a great job capturing the spirit of Brisbane and I also like the slick production and thought out story writting. I don't usually leave comments because I watch it on my Smart TV which is really inconvenient to type out comments. I don't know why you do not have more views on many of your videos. Hey mate, i think your channel is valuable and that the more storytelling there is about Brissie, the better. There's a city council election coming up in March this year, which creates an opportunity for some really interesting conversations about what direction the city is heading in and what kinds of visions the different political parties have for the future of our town. I'll be running for mayor of Brisbane and would be open to being interviewed, and i think it would be cool if you interviewed all the mayoral candidates to ask them tough questions and see what they each stand for. You could also interview other policy experts (e.g. transport planners, architects etc) to unpack issues like public transport, design of public spaces etc. The council election is going to have a huge impact on the lives of all Brisbanites, but there won't be much mainstream media coverage of the details of what each candidate stands for, so it could be a good thing to do a couple of vids on over the next few months... Just a suggestion!

Hey what you said in this video really resonated with me. Sadly I know that feeling. I've made a couple of videos that absolutely BOMBED that I put so much time and effort into. I too felt like "why am I doing this?". That being said however, I have also found that some of those videos also showed me what my audience wants and what they don't. So actually they have been my most useful videos. Moreover I have found that when I have made a video about something I wasn't passionate about and I did things for the likes or watches and it flopped I felt worse . Because it went against my "why". My channel had 98 subscribers at the beginning of THIS year and my new years resolution was to get to 250 subscribers. I now have 7597 subscribers. But this coming year my plan is to get my watch time up and create better and better videos. And get better and better at story telling and a whole host of other things. I think the issue with special insider access type videos is that your audience likely has completely different interests, and people will only watch the videos that interest them. For example, I would absolutely watch that video about the Cross River Rail tunnels (and now have my fingers crossed that it will one day get uploaded 🤞) but I have zero interest in soccer so did not watch your one about the women's Roar. Even though Brisbane is one big city, there are few things that we all care about together the same amount and each topic/event/organisation only caters to a small segment of us. It sounds like you what you are mainly interested in is the documentary making side of things, no matter the topic, and the unique opportunities that can unlock. If that is what you want, then absolutely pursue it. It really does sound like it could deliver insights and content that people would otherwise never see. However, you will end up with a variety of videos that each cater to a different audience, which would probably bring lower views. That said, if one becomes viral and people enjoy your style of editing and presentation in that vid, then people might check out your backlog which could bring some more growth over time. Ultimately, running a KZread channel is very risky and success is never guaranteed. So you have to ask yourself if you can be motivated and happy to produce videos even with no expectation of views or engagement. At least, that's my view as someone with zero desire to make videos of my own, so take all this with a mountain of salt 😂

Couldn't agree more ! I always found Brisbane boring as most people only talk about sports and nightclubs and nothing else much. There isn't a lot worth doing if you don't like either of the two. However I do enjoy videos about history of Brisbane places. I feel more connected to the place after I learned about its history but I might be a small sector of people (???) I want to say thank you for putting out those videos granted that I don't watch most of others but like another poster said, you have to ask yourself does it make you excite to produce the videos ? If not, then it is probably time to reconsider its future. A client of mine who grew up in Brisbane once told me history of the McCullough family and the McCullough Rd in Sunnybank which named after them. He also told me how Sunnybank and Pineland Plaza used to be farms and how the subdivision come about and I found that fascinating ! Not sure if there are enough people like me to justify you doing contents like this though ??? Maybe run a poll on contents you have in your mind and see what your audience would like to see ??

But I guess I'm hoping that if I go down that path, that I'll build a following of people who have a general curiosity (like I have) who are likely to watch maybe 3 out of each 5 videos I make because they enjoy the videos because of what I bring to them rather than just the subject matter. But I need to accept that the size of that audience will not likely ever be particularly large.

Thanks and welcome! WalkaboutWithRob and I did talk about a collaboration, but we weren't able to work out something that worked for both channels. However another local KZread creator - T-ROCKS - had the idea of collecting a handful of Brissie channels and doing a collab of sorts. He discussed it with Rob who then emailed me to ask if I was interested in joining the experiment, after T-ROCKS mentioned THE Brisbane Channel as a possible participant. The idea is that a theme is selected, and each creator makes a video on that theme. Sounded interesting, as it would be cool to see how each channel approached the same topic, so I said I'd definitely be interested. Haven't talked details yet, but it will be interesting to see how it works out (and also the full list of who joins in).

I first got into this channel years ago when I watched your street photographers of Brisbane video which I loved; and I think you should do a sequel to it btw. I enjoyed the Brisbane arts scene flavour the channel had in the early days and often commented in those days, but lost interest when it became more generic as I've lived most of my life in Brisbane and just didn't feel engaged with those style of videos. It would be disappointing to see the channel end given the time I've been following you and how I've seen your growth as a film maker over the time. It would be fantastic to see you continue with the 'all access' type videos now you have become so comfortable in front of the camera and producing such good quality content. It's a great advertisement for your business too. With that, a suggestion from me that I'd love to see is a behind the scenes at GOMA; how exhibitions get changed over, how they are funded and how they are sought and secured from artists or other galleries in the first place. I think that would be very interesting. I do hope you continue; I think you have much to offer, and your rewards will surely come, but it will certainly require more than a little persistence. You're doing great work, keep at it.

I like your content, I recommend more KZread Shorts, but instead of just filming locations, explain the location, such as a mini series like: "Top 5 places this Summer to visit in Brisbane", short retention videos which are more digestible and clickable, also have audible commentary mixed with the beautiful photography, not just quiet photography of travelling a location, a big strength of your channel is the informative language you use. Play to your strengths. What tactics get the clicks and retention and intrigue. That can also help alleviate the problem of long form content taking to much time to produce, reduce it and make it more manageable to your schedule and to the algorithm. Good Luck

as someone who has recently moved here, i found your channel to show me things I didn't know existed. Maybe a video on how you actually find the information you do would be good for those who are new here? Is it websites? Papers? Clubs? Pass your knowledge about how to find what someone wants to do, and keep your channel for those things in brissy you find worthy of talking about. I know juggling a fulltime job, then filming, editing must not be easy but at the end of the day, it is your life, no matter how much value I find in your output. Even if you want help with what your doing to spread the load, let us know... Update: Ok, after watching the entire video I see where your coming from - why don't you split the role? We create a non-profit called the THE Brisbane chanel - have a website where we collate all the whats on, what to do as that is important for new families. Then this youtube channel can just be dedicated to the documentary side - history of Brisbane and things - a 100% documentary based thing about Brisbane and surrounding areas. If you don't get the clicks/counts/cashflow you desire, the youtube channel can go to a slow death. Again, this is just my opinion

I really appreciate your frankness. I think there are cities that would appeal to people anywhere due to some special qualities/sights etc, and I agree that Brisbane is not really that type of place. I think Brisbane-themed videos will generally only ever appeal to people who are living, visiting or moving here. But before I made the decision to make this the Brisbane Channel exclusively, I had tried posting videos about other things that I thought would be more interesting, but it was always the Brisbane ones that got the most views (by a lot). So I think it's likely to be Brisbane content and accept the viewership will never be massive, or pull the curtain closed for good.

As someone who has lived in brisbane for 8ish years, i always enjoy the content of your videos. I think brisbane is a hard place to document, I love living here but the things that are out there to do are sometimes niche and dare i say "cliquey". The events in the parks on sundays are purely focused on families, and the live music events in the valley only cater towards young (18-30yo's), as examples. These niches are hard to infiltrate and give coverage to (even as a passionate person), compared to other cities that i have lived in the past that want everyone doing everything, all the time. The thing i am getting at is, your videos are great and they make me excited about being apart of the same city as you, but brisbane is not open/inclusive/big enough city for you to give the bulk of your creative talent to. I am keen to see anymore content you produce, and will always welcome passionate people giving voice to the things i love. Also i feel that the BCC is severly underestimating the impact creators like you can have on the perception of a city, and give you a larger creative licnese to be a part of the future of the city (especially with the olympics coming up, someone should really tell the BCC about that). Also i really enjoyed your Roar video, just FYI!

But again, not sure if it will be worth the effort. I'm probably just a little overloaded and spread too thinly, so when things don't go well with the channel, it makes it a bigger issue, because I've spent so much time on it with little reward in any sense of the word.

Hi Adam it would be a damn shame if you didn't continue with the channel. I joined it because it gives information about local Brisbane things. I personally didn't find the Roar a super interesting topic as I'm not into soccer very much. But I'd love to learn about exciting businesses, restaurants, initiatives, stuff that's happening around me, and if that's insider stuff you can get exclusive access to even better. I think it's a great channel and I have missed your videos. Thanks for your honesty and keep going please!

Being a creative is such a weird thing. I myself have the same feelings for my photos and videos, a lot of other creators will say "if you're doing it for views then you shouldn't be doing it" and I somewhat disagree with that statement, it's easier said than done but if I create something for me AND other people to enjoy but no one sees it I feel like all that effort is lost, leaving me with similar questions you've been asking yourself. For me it's my photos on Instagram, at first my reach was great and then out of nowhere there was no reach due to a bunch of stupid changes that favours more well established accounts, kick in the balls since I like sharing my stuff with others, I'm actually happier if I get good reach but little interactions (likes and comments) because at the very least someone saw it. With my KZread stuff I don't care as much, normally shrug it off if something doesn't work since for me it's a secondary thing, so I could imagine how frustrating it could be if you work hard on something and nothing comes of it. Anyway, I do watch a lot of videos relating to city infrastructure so one of the ideas you did mention about the CRR is interesting to me.

When I started a new one, it was a completely different platform, and I've been unable to build anything with any attempts to do something on IG. Your channel is valuable and well-liked, I would suggest taking a break to regroup rather than ditching it altogether. Sorry to say, but the under-performance of the Roar video was (from my perspective as a viewer) entirely predictable. That is not an adverse reflection on "insider access" or documentary-style videos (nor on the quality of the Roar video), it is a result of the subject matter. If the expectation of the viewer is to see videos about infrastructure, demography, history, local events, etc, then a sport-themed video is unexpected and possibly unwanted. Sport is a different subject area entirely, and the Roar women's team is (in a Brisbane context) a niche within a niche. Also, whilst they may not be your favourite videos to produce, compilations of existing publicly-available material are worthwhile on KZread, particularly if there is depth to the research and some accompanying insights or analysis as well. Perhaps combine the compilation approach with interviews illustrating or clarifying your topic?

  • @BrisbaneChannel

    @BrisbaneChannel

I do think you're right. An interest in some aspects of the Brisbane story doesn't automatically indicate an interest in other aspects. "Niche within a niche" is well put. And I guess I'd forgotten that even where I've drawn together information easily found online, I still bring something unique in how I connect ideas or small bits of critique I may bring based on personal experience or the lived experience of others on the topics I've come across that may change the way information is interpreted. I guess part of the value of KZread is not in putting relatively objective facts and information in front of people, but also in sharing the personal experience and opinions of people who are dealing with those things in real life. I'm really thankful for everyone like you who has shared their thoughts, as it's really helped me with reflecting on things and how to proceed. I'm actually excited now to see what comes in 2024, as I feel I've shaken off some of the negative feelings I've had connected with the channel, and am looking forward to moving onward and upward. Mostly because I've clarified to myself what "upward" really means to me, and what's important. Thanks again.

Always wondered how this channel got so many subs, yet so few views and comments. Makes me feel sad to be thinking that all of this could one day be forever gone if you so wish to leave, though you always will have my support on here no matter what, even if i rarely comment on here. I specifically want to point right out to you that although some of the content on here might very well be not too my personal liking, but i still watch all of the videos, because i do know how much time, effort & energy you always put into all of them - not counting the fact that i see how few views you get on some of them. So then, do i like sports or xmas lights? Not at all. Will there be any more videos in particular about things i dislike? There will be. Will i still watch them? Yes i will, because i want it to be known to you that i appreciate what you do. As for why i rarely comment, i often see too many arguments, negative comments and just generally misleading ones that tick me off and not want to view any of the comments, but the videos themselves i still watch. The only thing remaining that i want to say is that for me, videos where you must get special permission to see something is frankly quite exciting to me, as it makes me so thrilled to be getting to see any certain thing that for the most part is always strictly limited to a small portion of people to be able to witness, and seeing something that no other person should really be doing so just personally makes it feel like as if though you get to be a part of a very special group of individuals who got quite lucky to do just that in the first place without having to actually go there yourself and be asking for permission to get in there just to have a look.

Your dilemma has been experienced by many a creative on social media, and the question you should be asking is not what does your audience want to see, but instead what is your primary motivation for having a KZread channel? Ask yourself if you are just putting out videos for views/likes/subscribers, or if it’s cause you enjoy creating videos? If you do it purely for your enjoyment, then how many people see or like your videos is going to become a very small concern to you, if at all. You can hear it in your tone in this video, how enthusiastic you sound when you were talking about the videos you enjoyed making, as opposed to how demotivated you sounded when you talked about the ones you didn’t like to make. You can’t control people into watching or enjoying your content, but you can at least control your decisions in what you want to create. I know it can be disheartening when you don’t get much engagement with your output, but some of that can be attributed to the algorithm. If you’re not doing so already, cross-promote your videos on your other social media accounts, let your network of contacts know about your channel. If you can’t raise engagement, then you can at least raise awareness of your channel.

Yes, I was trying to have the best of both worlds - satisfaction in the process/feeling good about the work I was producing, and getting more views/growing the channel. Having tasted the financial benefit of when things are doing well, I wanted to increase on that, but it was coming at the cost of the personal satisfaction. I think the way forward is to just focus on what I'm excited to produce, and hoping that I find the right audience for that type of content. At least if I don't, the process isn't something that will cause me pain, but I'll get some benefit from it even if it doesn't pay off financially.

I would like to watch more Brisbane based inside access videos. Regarding the future of the channel, I feel it would be a shame to stop after the disappointment of your Brisbane Roar video (which I watched and enjoyed), as your future videos could pay off with higher viewership numbers and thus provide you with motivation to create more content. I appreciate how frustrating it must be to spend hours on producing videos, only to have them poorly received. Perhaps you could adopt a wait and see approach - to create a few more videos and analyse how they perform before deciding on the channel's future. That said, if you feel that producing videos has become more of a burden than a joyful experience, then I wouldn't blame you for closing the channel. As for determining what your viewers would like to watch, maybe you could post a poll with different video ideas?

I do think basing my decisions on a single video not performing was a bit knee-jerk. I really love the poll idea, but there are two problems I've encountered with this. Firstly, very few people actually participate in them. I don't think it's just about people not wanting to, but also whether they even show up at all. The algorithm is fickle and may or may not put the poll in front of people. Secondly, I find it quite limiting, as I need to have set options in the poll itself. I'd rather people raise the ideas of what they'd like to see themselves, rather than voting on ideas I've already chosen. There could be a "Other - comment below" option to choose, but in the past, I've found people rarely do that.

Its hard to find it online when you dont know what you are looking for i guess. I fully get it. Burnt out. Take a break. I am taking forced break because for months i worked 7 days a week trying to settle here and buy things and i just dont wanna do anything currently. Some humans just outright annoy me within ten seconds whereas i could listen to you for hours. P.S dont think i haven't noticed deleted video with Adrian being absent. Should of left it. 5:23 Regarding views Adam, i know it sucks. But its also marketing mixed with other strategies. Have you noticed how trash content has easily high views and gems like these don't? That's one of reasons i ditched my cooking show. Not a lot were interested but the ones that were, one fan was worth to me a 100. It's also to decide, are you here to sell? Are you here to help? are you here to sell and help? what's your goal? if it helps, i wouldn't watch men football either, just not a sport person in general. Can't force the willing either, you know? 7:00 Sadly you have to be "big" before anyone sort of gives you attention which is messed up because how else do you grow? its classic "30 years of experience needed but cant work here to get experience:" Recommendation: Ultimately, do what you really want to do. Life is too short. Perhaps these 3 years were enough help to reach us across. Who knows. Perhaps lets say you make a video of "things to see", you could go there yourself and do photography as you enjoy and make a video collab between knowledge and scenery. Fuse your likes with something. But if you want truth i see, i think you would be "better off" ditching channel and focusing yourself and family especially since you started your business. It sucks as an answer but financially and mentally its the way to go. That was the outcome of cooking show channel. Which is a shame i do miss it but i just...cant spread resources too thin as well, im only one. Regardless what path you take, ill support you. Only a tiny percentage of KZreadrs get big. Most don't but that's okay. Everyone has different roles in lives and priorities. Sadly that's how world has come after Rona. Honestly if i wasn't so broke, id easily donate. My channel is tiny but the purpose behind it is potentially world changing. I know that me making videos probably won't contribute in any meaningful way to keeping this planet viable for my daughters, but I think that video is the medium through which I might have the largest impact. All of my longer videos tank, all of them. Only some of my shorts get somewhat decent views. I'm making a short documentary at the moment that I fully expect to tank. But, this in no way negatively impacts my motivation for making videos because the cause matters too much. As I wrote at the start, I want to learn from you. I don't want you to stop because I've only just found you (well, actually, you found me) and I don't want the opportunities to evaporate. Since it's an "honest talk", I'll be real (since it wouldn't be beneficial for you otherwise). I found the channel and engaged with it initially for the content that was ABOUT Brisbane and living there. When I have a look at your playlist, all the videos that I engaged with all come up as your most popular videos. "The Truth about Brisbane" "::The Facts about Brisbane" Tours around suburbs like South Bank, The Best Coffee to find in Brisbane etc. All of these are among your most popular videos. I lived in Brisbane for many years, I now live In Melbourne and enjoyed these videos for allowing me to be in and around Brisbane without actually being there (seeing old places I used to love to visit etc). All of the "things to do in Brisbane at X time" were not interesting to me because 1. Maybe that specific activity is not of interest to me and 2. I'm not in Brisbane anyway so it's irrelevant, I suspect these videos are only of interest to people IN Brisbane. Other videos about street photography etc are also not of interest to me. IU subscribed to "The BRISBANE Channel" and engaged with The Brisbane content. I've stayed subscribed just in the case you might upload videos I'm interested in etc. And all of this is not to say I don't enjoy your videos, I actually enjoy them quite a lot which is why I'm subbed, I also really like your presentation so I wouldn't want my comments to come across as negative. It's also fine if you aren't interested in making these types of videos anymore but I think it's fairly clear that the type of content I subscribed for is also the content other people are after since it's all among your most viewed and popular content. Some behind the scenes deep dives may be of interest to me if it's specific to Brisbane, like maybe a tour around acstlemain brewary or something lol.. But these are going to be hit and miss for different people as it's dependant on interests and obviously a lot of people are just not interested in women's soccer, however well made the video is.

Thanks for speaking directly, I always appreciate that kind of feedback. Whatever I do on this channel going forward, it will only be Brisbane-based content. I made the decision to change the name of the channel to THE Brisbane Channel because it was clear that's what people were engaging the most with. I'd be stupid to deviate from that on this channel (If I really wanted to go a completely different route, I'd start a new channel). I am sure I will always make some general Brisbane videos (like the overall situation in Brisbane each year etc), as those videos are the ones that keep the channel running and appeal to people whether they want to move here, live here, or just want to visit. But they are a massive amount of work to research, shoot and edit, so they'd be every few months kinda videos. When I talk of documentary-style videos, it's really Brisbane stories I'm looking at exploring. But you're right that they may have wildly varying appeal depending on what aspect of Brisbane they're looking at. I'm prepared for that. Actually not so much that I'm prepared for that, but I'm not going to care so much about that from now on. I'm just going to focus on Brisbane stories, places, events, whatever that are interesting to me, and people will watch or they won't. If I see a particular topic or theme resounds well with the viewers, I'm more likely to do that kind of thing again, and vice versa if they don't (like the Roar one). I'm actually beginning to feel excited about the possibilities for the channel in the coming year, which feels pretty good after being a bit down about it until now.

I'm aware Brisbane is a kinda niche topic as far as YT channels go, but I do feel the channel has more potential than it's currently realising. I think you should do what you enjoy doing. If you're not enjoying it then maybe you should move on. 1. I think the big question is what is your motivation to have a YT channel? 2. Is it to share your experiences with whomever stumbles across your video? 3. Or, is it to make money from YT and potentially become a fulltime YTer?

Yes, I've really had to ask myself why I do this and what I want to get out of it. Honestly, financial reward has been a part of it. I do not see this ever being a full-time thing, but I would like it to be able to supplement my other income enough to make it worth the time investment. But I've come to realise that it's not likely to pay off enough to make it worth doing something I'm not really enjoying. So I've decided to focus on making videos that I do enjoy making, and to try to let the other aspects go. It would give me more satisfaction to keep pushing myself to create better quality content, continue building my skills, and to cover stories that I'm curious about, I just need to accept that that may not be what gets lots of views or builds the channel, at least not at first. But maybe over time, I'll find more of the audience that connects with the content I enjoy making.

Dude, I think you're extremely talented but too clean. Instead of contacting BCC to look at the tunnel, contact a group of urban explorers and follow them going around tunnels at night. Instead of women's soccer follow the gritty part of Brisbane, maybe some Valley junkies or drug dealers. Embrace your hate of Brisbane. Show us the shit parts. Show us the crime and the drugs. That's just my two cents.. I know it's not worth much but it'd be such a shame if you quit KZread, I know you can be successful at this. Dear sir which ever way u like me to call you by the real name or by the channel name. Don't worry about how low the ratings are as in who care less if you have 5 likes or 15 likes or 100 likes. It is no way for you to gain 500 likes or 1,000+ likes. Not unless your some rich person driving luxury cars :) Dont worry about if your subscribers do not comment much at all on your videos. That part is a thing we can't force people to do unfortunately. Today there are millions of channels on you-tube. including heaps of similarity channels as yours. Your channel is not the only channel out there. There are variety of Brisbane channels doing similarity things. We cant control things unfortunately. Perhaps if you made this videos 10 years ago perhaps u where more a unique one of its kind. You are unique like every person making videos of course. Its just that there are too many "Competitors" far too many of them on KZread. Too many that people will slip thru the caps where they find better stuff to see then yours if they came past your videos. There are many vloggers i follow in your city of Brisbane some are walking videos and some do IRL content live videos. Which ever way goes to every individual channels out there. But there's too many competitors in the market where people do the same thing walking videos. or Documentary videos about Brisbane like yours. We cant control this specially when the internet is bombarded with 1000+ 1000s of channels to select so i guess your channel in inside there at a number like everyone else too. Dont give up. Its not your fault to get bored of it at times. I believe Brisbane is mainly just a terribly lacking place to celebrate. Beautiful place but terrible lack of festivals or just boring festivals with a jumping castle and kids face painting while adults dont see much fun that is free and in the open. Brisbane australia is rather boring but slowly growing but its a habbit how australians do things compare to California that i come from. over here we go crazy specially if your a content creator. Been too nice and only making documents you might as well open a new digital tv station for all about Brisbane..... Because content here means u have to go crazy and be whatever u want to be as a content creator. Its mad here i know but u get more viewers. But.. :) i dont think you want to go crazy and do crazy things on a video to give attention. Maybe follow others walks of life and do walking videos or something. I dont no. I usually watch people walking videos of the city and theres some i follow which are very active on this. I can see why theres no much excitement with festivals of brisbane. Ive seen not very excitement stuff about brisbane festivals... it just looks like a bunch of event where it is located inside somewhere or in a private park with fence all over it where they charge you just to see an event lol... Not in USA. Then its jumping castles or some pretty lights on a nice healthy large tree.. where... all that i wouln't call it a actual festival Unless a festival is a big event all over the city with fireworks and music in every street of course. Dont quit. Just hold on there.. Dont worry about how low LIKES you get or how low comments u get. I see other streamers in your city too they dont get heaps and heaps of likes and heaps of comments. They too suffer this im sure about that but they will not stop from making content for the viewers and that is a true fact. So they also suffer like you. Its a very very slow progress to become number 1 on youtube. U will never become number 1 nor others... imposible.... theres too many millions of channels already created on youtube. SOMEONE will become number 1 perhaps... But in our lifetime you better off just dont worry too much about how many likes you have or how low comments u have.... Who cares.. people today wouldnt careless about it. As long u make videos at least u have 100 something likes too. And i hope the best for all brisbane local creators on yoututube all the best regardless they have 10 or 100 likes.... a number is just simply a number. All the best and i say continue.

Ok so the video on the Brisbane Roar was never shown to me. Doesn’t come up in suggestions or alerts or anything. Didn’t even know you’d made it so that may explain the low views. The rest of the video feels basically you put a gun to the viewers heads and saying “agree with me or else” - there is no choice here. You end the Brisbane channel or you do what you want and that’s it….thats basically what you said. You said you are busy with your business and phd….ok do those then. No viewer has demanded you stop anything do Brisbane channel videos. If that is suffering then go concentrate on that. No one is making you do vids. Plenty of big creators on here had suddenly quit and stop making videos coz they are doing their own lives. It’s like - oh well that’s a shame but life don’t stop coz a KZreadr stops making vids. I think the majority of the viewers watched the channel because they wanted to see Brisbane. Hints and tips. Places to go. Things to see. Things to do. People can’t just go and hang with Brisbane Roar or do “insider stuff” - you like that coz you are getting stuff other people can’t and doing things other people can’t do but that’s for you not the viewer. What does the viewer get out of it? You said “what do I get out of it” - well it’s the viewers that watch and dictate what they like don’t they so it’s not about you it’s about the viewer and people want stuff on Brisbane they can experience themselves clearly by the view numbers. If you want then side stuff then pursue that and show it but it may not be your audience and that risk is on you. Do what what you wanna do and maybe the audience thats like it and get a new audience or do what’s been successful - that’s what every long term KZreadr goes through. Very few KZreadrs do the exact same thing now as they did when they started. Think you need to decide what you care about and what you don’t and understand the life of a KZreadr.

I think there's a lot of truth to what you say. I think there's a balance between doing what's authentic and meaningful to me with doing what the audience wants to see, which is something I struggle with a lot. I actually would like to know what people would like to see, but whenever I ask people in videos to let me know, I get no response in the comments. So I'm kinda left on my own to just guess and work with that. Actually the Roar video came from a suggestion from a subscriber. But my feeling is that if I do what I feel is interesting and useful, others who feel the same will find their way to the channel eventually, and I'll build an audience that fits the areas I bring value. But on the other hand, I don't want to just turn my back on the people who have already arrived here and say "if you don't like this new direction, then see ya". So while I do think I'm gonna focus more on doing videos on things that motivate me and I enjoy discovering, I'm not planning on abandoning things I've done that has built the community that THE Brisbane Channel has now. I think I didn't really make that clear in the video - but that's what happens when you just hit record with out preplanning what to say. I'm hoping to be able to find a balance moving forward. But I do think that if I create the kind of content I enjoy making, I'll build a community that connect with that, and if it means I lose people who are after something different, that's OK. I will always listen to what people want and try to cater to that as well, but I think I need to be clear on what I want this channel to be and to try to find the right audience for that. Basically sticking to what I feel uses my strengths and interests, but with flexibility to integrate what the viewers want within those boundaries.

I personally would genuinely like to see this channel continuing, as I feel that it still has so much under-used potential. Why not ask us in a community post for things which all of us would like to see more of, as it can be able to enable all of the audience to have some form of control on what gets uploaded on here, rather than having it all just on your shoulders. Because to tell you in all honesty, there could easily be things here that you know absolutely nothing of at all - and if you were to never ask your audience some questions, then how do you hope to find out about some potentially very special things that just never get advertised online.

The problem I've had is that the community posts have had so little engagement that I don't have faith in that getting me anywhere. Honestly, I'd love for the ideas to be community-sourced, I really would. I know that there's so much potential in that, and that ideas would be much better than what I could come up with myself. Actually the Roar video came from a subscriber suggestion. I just seem to be terrible at getting people to share their ideas. Maybe I'll try a little experiment on the community page in a day or two...
