So far AOTY for me. It's really distinct apart from other releases this year (not counting Bad Omens as of now).

I’m surprised you’ve only checked out enigma from their old tunes, definitely should give their self titled album and the dcx2 EP a full playthrough

Crazy good. Can't wait for more. My AOTY for sure.
Faded and Clickbait has been on repeat. The vibe of those songs just makes me want to listen on repeat 🔥🔥
Know these lads - the guitarist Brayden produced my old bands two EPs. Guy is one of the most talented guitarists I've ever seen. A pedal hoarder and analog purist who goes to insane lengths to get such unique sounds out of his guitar among the riffs. Glad to see them getting the reach and recognition they deserve.
This album is INSANE. I need to know how to make those sounds.

Its so fucking crazy that a lot of it is NOT post production. Lad does this shit all with pedals check out their guitar playthroughs

@@cosmokramar8766 I think they do but most of the guitar glitches and effects are the guitar player with pedals, not post effects or automation

@@ianvaldes3073 a lot of it sounds like pitch shifting super high dissonant chords and applying HEAVY saturation and some OTT multiband. This is a super creative mix though, im sure theres some more secrets to it like some reversing, adding super fast slapback echo with the pitch shifted stuff, and there has to be a decent amount of post production going on but completely possible to play live with midi switches with a modeler like the Quad Cortex and the crazy live capability of some DAWs. This could be done live to a click and have everything be as it is on the album but played live. Im sure we are going to hear more eventually.
In terms of overall enjoyment, this is my favorite album of the year so far. I love it when you can tell that bands are just doing whatever the hell they want and having fun.

100% agree, I'm still not tired of any song on this project. Zodiac Memories unlocks something within I cannot explain but I love that song

You should check out MIRAR dude. Its basically this but THALL. Im really startin FEEL all these new super deep fried sounds that only a handful of bands are embracing so far
@toddjones7143

@@EthanRadell I have heard it, absolutely bonkers. Thall isn’t something I listen to as casually for the most part but Mirar is insane.
potentially AOTY
This is one of the most unique pieces of music that I've heard in a while like I really wish I was in the room while they were writing this like I wanna know how they came up with these songs and riffs it's fucking wild. I think I like this general direction that modern metal is going, more diversity and genre bending. Letting the guitars take a backseat in some parts and let the production do the talking. Makes it so when the guitars do come in it hits so much harder
you should see how their guitarist plays their stuff live, its wild that his ankles don't break on the pedalboard he's got lol.
I am not sure I've ever enjoyed something with no actual musical notes so much 😆 Neon is brilliant.
Despite i hate trap metal and modern hip-hop, i think this album perfectly blends those genres into metalcore with individual spice, it has to be the most unique album i've heard in a while. Production of that album is absolutely phenomenal, it deserves way more recognition apparently. If you feel very confused on a first listen and after this you end up loving this stuff, you will probably replay this album forever. Honestly the only thing i'm not into - are lyrics, i don't mind them but it's not a problem for me as for overall experience and i will actually give this album a 9.5/10. I absolutely love the creativity of every single aspect of musical experience including production. Moreover, i think this album is genre-defining!

re the lyrics it probably helps to keep in mind that they're Australian so being tongue in cheek in songwriting is something we do. Look up TISM - Greg! The Stop Sign or Whatareya? for the GOATs of that in Aus music, or Regurgitator (Unit is one of the best albums this country has put out)
I'd describe them as experimental/electronic nu-metalcore. They are everything that frightens the shit out of the 'I only like old school thrash and death metal' elitists, and I LOVE them for it.
They changed the game with this one. Was really looking forward to this album and now it’s been on repeat since. They have the balls to push the boundaries so far and all these haters out here mad their favourite band doesn’t sound fresh like this
Once you get used to the clipping and blown out feel, it is honestly an amazing album. Literally been a daily listen cycle since I heard it, it just works. Our Aussie boys really don’t miss that much, do we?

It's giving serious Ocean Grove vibes in some parts and that's a band I'd love to see him react to (the first album in particular)
I actually really like it Im always looking for a fresh sound and this is it in spades. still heavy asf but a fresh take. good shit
I really love this album for how different it is.
Just like to say, seeing them live in Albury Australia, does make it much better, ive been thinking the same how some sound a little shit hear and there on spotify, but totally different live. They are amazing and scratch the perfect itch in my brain for just noise-core 😂
Faded, jinx and zodiac memories🤘🏻🔥
Love this band. Going off doing their own thing.
Faded is such a banger, cannot stop listening to it tbh
AOTY for me ❤❤❤❤ This band is amazing. I can't wait for more.
Been loving the recent reactions, I’m surprised you haven’t reacted to any ghost yet. Should definitely give their first album a listen, it’s called opus eponymous
Can't stop listening to clickbait and neon, such a unique album
Neon, Faded, Jynx 💪🔥💯
“Does this sound terrible to really good?” Hahaha. Thats how I feel. My gut instinct is confused. I can definitely appreciate the uniqueness and what they’re doing. Gonna listen a few more times to normalize it in my ears.
This album is futuristic
Me personally I loved the album it was grower after a few days it flows so nice but I’ve been a big fan of DC since 2017 so I can understand how someone can think this album is jarring lol
Banger album, top 5 so far
Faded sounds like old Volumes.
I loved this album man. I wish it was available for me in spotify tho :(
Drew I think also your comments regarding the bands currently wanting to be more and more heavy and distorted is really just a progression from some of the bands that have pioneered this style. Especially Mortician where they're having a resurgence because they have huge guitar tones and bass tones that are essentialy pure fuzz. This new version is electronic fuzz blended with guitar distortion and it's sick.

The metal version of shoegaze (I'm aware that's already a thing). But yeah chuck in the huge pile of 'post-metalcore' that someone is going to have to sort through and categorise one day haha
it's like someone put HEALTH and Northlane into a blender and hit the 'chopped and screwed' setting

Also obviously Korn and some Ocean Grove (another aus band)
I love this album, it might just overtake Half Living Things as my AOTY
I hate trap or trap metal but this band is addicting
why no alpha wolf album review?
Same mixed feelings here. Don't know if I like it or hate it. The non stop clipped output audio sound kinda cool most of the time, but feels overdone and out of control to many often. Clipping the output sounds good on the bass but mushy on the guitars.

This is undeniably the future of metal, but its continuing the trend of " metal " not being a sufficient umbrella term anymore. This is the future of HEAVY music
I dont think its bad at all but my taste buds dont like it at all xD
I grew up around the corner from these lads here in AUS. Do yourself and favour and don't read the lyrics though. Kynan is a terrible writer 🤣. Always had killer music these lads though
