Your stem cell supply drastically declines as your age, along with it your body’s ability to repair and regenerate. Can herbal supplements trigger the release of more stem cells into your circulation to promote healing and rejuvenation? Listen to this fascinating conversation with stem cell scientist Dr. Christian Drapeau who will explain how he discovered that certain herbs can mobilize stem cells into the body and drastically enhance the body’s ability to heal, and how he was able to formulate a dietary supplement product that combines 5 extraordinary herbs to achieve such. Dr. Drapeau dives deep into the mechanisms of action of how these herbs are able to help mobilize stem cells, and also the importance of stem cells for antiaging purposes.

    I bought two bottles of this product before finding out his aloe macroclada study only had 4 participants. 😞 Maybe it is a wonderful plant, but for the price and limited research, I think I'll hold off on further purchases until more studies are available.

    The older person with old stem cells, if receives new ,younger stem cells from an ombilical cord , the body of the old body does not reject the new cells?

  • @JoyKongMD

    @JoyKongMD

    3 ай бұрын

    That would depend on the type of cells used. When using young mesenchymal stem cells, these cells are immune-evasive in nature, and they have immune-modulating properties. They also don't have the surface markers that mark them as foreign, especially when they are not expanded (grown into huge numbers in an incubator), so there's nothing for the recipient body to attack. However, if one uses hematopoietic projector cells, which comes from the umbilical core blood, there's a higher chance of rejection, which is why some studies would use medication to reduce chance of rejection when these cells are administered. Using mesenchymal stem cells at the same time of hematopoietic progenitor cells would help reduce chances of such rejection.

    Dr. Christian Drapeau presentation/explanation of L-selectin is complicated. From various science papers the bio-associated expression of L-selectin is with leukocytes and TEM. In his explanation, to paraphrase, is it the MSC cell stimulated by the turbulence (minute 32) at the capillary/venule junction ? to express L-selectin which in turn is stimulated by this turbulence, and causes the cell membrane to express CXL4 receptor, and therefore migrate to an area of inflammation ? It would be good to cite a scientific paper with this bio-mechanism explained. From the web: "L-selectin, which is expressed by most leukocytes in the blood, mediates leukocyte tethering and rolling on activated endothelial surfaces as a prerequisite to firm adhesion and transendothelial migration. L-selectin is expressed constitutively on lymphocytes ...". I couldn't find any literature about allogeneic hMSCs migrating to the bone marrow. I am aware in the SCT procedure for blood cancers, the IV of hemopoietic blood stem cells after myeloabalative conditioning, the infused donor stem cells migrate to the bone marrow. Would like to have a more detailed explanation. From further research, there is a relationship between L-selectin and hMSCs. I am inclined to think that there are many routes that the hMSCs can migrate to areas of inflammation besides via the capillary/vascular area. Where does the lymphatic system come into play ? it is part of the circulatory system. It will take me some extra time to delve into this perception. For further clarification I offer this PubMed paper, 2012 "Mesenchymal stem cells are short-lived and do not migrate beyond the lungs after intravenous infusion" www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3458305/ more research needs to be done with regard to what happens after IV hMSCs. Thank you Dr. Joy for this presentation, the quest for full understanding of hMSCs continues.

    I very much appreciate your comment and your drive to understand scientific mechanisms in greater depth. I will relate your question to Dr. Christian. As far as MSC migration, there are numerous research studies citing the benefits of IV infusions of stem cells treating a wide variety of conditions (the most commonly utilized route of administration in clinical trials), showing benefits, which is my clinical experience as well. There are also evidence from animal studies (easier to track the cell destiny since one can dissect various organs of interest) showing cells administered via IV route can get to various organs including the brain... This is great news because IV therapy is such a simple procedure with minimal invasiveness.

    After the child birth, how is the level stem cells in mother, is there any abnormal lack of stem cells, &how to manage the situation?

  • @JoyKongMD

    @JoyKongMD

    Actually mothers tend to experience remissions of their autoimmune conditions during pregnancy, possibly due to the fact that there is maternal-fetal stem cell exchange, and the mothers have some stem cells from the baby floating in their body. That said, after childbirth, there's a complex play of hormonal changes and stress from caring for a new baby, that can pause as challenges for the mother . But I do not believe that there is a shortage of stem cells within the mother.

  • @JoyKongMD

    @JoyKongMD

    If you have too little stem cells, you would not be able to repair as effectively, and there would be more inflammation in the body, less optimal immune balance, and more rapid aging etc... however, you can replenish your own stem cell supply by receiving young, healthy, stem cells from a donor. I believe umbilical sourced stem cells is the best source we have at this point.
