hello everyone, herm here! just got done with uni for the day and WOW. i apologize in advance for this comment being much longer than the youtube standard, but i hope to provide some background and hermma wholesomeness. i'm sectioning the comment a bit so that you can read whatever parts interest you. i will work through responding to your comments as well :) as a preliminary note, i've made my unlisted speedrun public on youtube if you're interested in seeing the run. a massive shoutout to the people dedicated enough to comment on it already! ---the speedrun backstory--- long before this surprising appearance, hermma was an icon in the hollow knight speedrunning community, where i'm active. i don't run as much because i'm prone to hand issues [though i don't have arthritis, hermma has let me borrow her spare brace before :)]. despite the fact that she has never played a video game before, let alone a relatively complex one like hollow knight, hermma watches me every time i commentate a speedrun and texts me her thoughts on the event. after around 18 months, she's stopped calling the game "hollow nights" and can even name a few areas on the map :). i always wanted to get hermma involved in a speedrun of some kind, but since i couldn't bring streaming equipment to her home [she lives in another state] and technology isn't always intuitive to her, i waited for another way. in early 2022, dragon_nyx, a dear friend of mine and valued gamer/artist in the hollow knight community, streamed irl pizza% with their dormmates, and i realized i'd finally found a feasible speedrun to do with hermma. when hermma came to town in march, i set my plan into motion, making a mad dash to the grocery store for the ingredients we'd need. hermma is pretty humble about her contributions, but she actually devised most of the strats we used for this run since i have little cooking knowledge. thanks to her, we were able to cook a pizza in what we thought was a record time, and have a ton of fun doing so! as a side note, the pizza, while not the most visually appealing [unfortunately, irl pizza% lacks the pretty fast strats of many speedruns], was quite tasty! the run was also my face reveal on the internet, hehe. ---aftermath of the run--- right after completing the run, hermma and i confidently reported to our family that we'd secured a record time. after submitting and completing the all-important step of cleaning up the kitchen, we retired for the evening. i remember waking up and being immediately saddened by the rejection of our run. it's true that hermma's arthritis wouldn't have made this a feasible solo run for her, and if i'd done the run myself, i wouldn't have gotten to share the experience of speedrunning with my grandmother. hermma and i both moped a fair bit, but we were happy with our efforts regardless. the moderators told us to keep the video as a two-person category could be added in the future. this is what i thought had happened when... ---what in the fresh hell i am in a youtube video--- i was chilling before my statistics class / playing pokemon sporcle this morning when a lovely member of my discord pinged to inform me that my run had been verified! they attached a video about five nights at freddy's, which confused me because i don't deal very well with horror...i'd completely forgotten that the pizza speedrun was a security breach extension [though, watching this video, the speedrun community seems quite interesting! maybe i can become a fan if i learn how to anticipate the jumpscares]. then, people i'd never met before started joining my discord. this was peculiar as i haven't been streaming or anything due to starting university, so i thought it was some school friends interested in lurking. then someone sent Amber's comment and i honestly flipped out. to see my silly little speedrun [though it was a failure in rule following, it's a precious memory for me] warm other people's hearts is just. yeah, it's fucking incredible to me. i don't know what to say. in fact, let me relay what hermma said instead because she's so good with these things. ---hermma's reaction--- first of all, hermma wants all of you to know that this made her day. she said that watching the video was "the best laugh she's had in a long time" and that she's so honored to be featured. in regards to the whole thing, hermma says the following: "as an elderly person, it gives me respect for the community of gamers who were so kind and supportive and humorous about our little speedrun of making a pizza." and yeah, hermma says it better than i do. if nothing else, it makes me so happy to see the gaming community rally not just for me and my grandmother, but for the whimsy and joy of sharing gaming, even in the most abstract sense, with everyone. so thank you. thank you to spiff for verifying the run and for the incredible production value. i still cannot believe that is me in the video. go herm. thank you to the security breach mods for agreeing to keep our run on the leaderboard. and thank you, above all, to every commenter on this video. i read hermma dozens of your comments, and she adored them. if you have any questions [i think this is pretty thorough] about the lore or maybe an idea for a second herm/hermma collaboration, let me know

i am terrible at security breach and could not for the life of me get past moon's segment so my gregory lives permanently in the daycare with sun now. it's a good life.

I think speedrunning rules can absolutely be adjusted in cases of accessibility!! Herma needs assistance in some parts for her arthritis, so I think its fair game.

i agree :) while i'm glad that the run was verified, i think that co-op categories like the mods initially suggested could be a super cool solution to allow for accessibility! the mods did say that if there are enough runs, it'd happen, so i suppose the only thing to do is start cooking~

I enjoy watching speedrun and challenge runs, even if I don’t have any interest in the game. Been watching every new upload since sometime around sprintless even tho I don’t have any interest in any fnaf games. spiff is pretty cool and the challenge runs are awesome. Nearly got me into fnaf too

Hey, if I work in a pizza kitchen, would I be able to do an irlpizza% hand made dough run? The ingredients would be open beforehand because it’s a kitchen, we have them in bins at all times, but otherwise, I could keep the kitchen and oven in full view the whole time.

Thank you for verifying Herm. I'm disabled myself, and it's often the case that official rules in a lot of gaming stuff-- speedrunning too-- doesn't allow people like me (or Herm, who has arthritis) to ever qualify for speedruns. I really appreciate you doing that for her.

couldn't agree more. I'm very fortunate that my disability doesn't impact my ability to speedrun, but I keep a close eye on accessibility in speedrunning regardless. one very notable advancement within the past year is that Metroid Dread legalized turbo controllers so runners don't need to mash - it's the first big action game I'm aware of to do so! I'm confident as time goes on we'll see accessibility continue to improve

Stardew Valley speedruns have a separate "vanilla" category where animation canceling is not allowed, so the most finger-intensive trick is not involved and runners using adaptive controllers like arcade sticks can compete on equal footing.

To be fair, if FNAF is similar to Chuck-E-Cheese, can we really assume that their pizza is actually cooked all the way through?

At 17:35 as spiff goes "this run was rejected because..." my internet lagged and it paused and gave me the swirly loading circle and I genuinely went "ha thats a good one, spiff" then realized it wasnt part of the video.

My heart shattered when I saw Herm got denied, thankfully she and her grandmother got their justice served. Super-wholesome ending

Verifying Hermma was the biggest W I've seen in a while, so heartwarming

As a disabled person, I want to thank you for verifying herm and hermma speedrun. It was the right thing to do.

@@ilonachan Except that the people with these atrocious videos aren't playing at that framerate. The game is sucking up all their GPU, so the recording software doesn't have the necessary power available to capture however many FPS the game is actually rendering. Whenever you see Power Point presentation level footage, it's fairly safe to assume the game is being played somewhere around the 15-25 FPS mark. If the game somehow ran *this* bad for someone without crashing and they tried to record on top of it, their entire computer would lock up.

@@AnglosArentHuman To be fair I play a lot of games with horrible frame rates going under the 5 frames often for near minutes, but I have not recorded footage much outside of replay features so I definitly believe some genuine potato users like me did sent their speedruns but the most of them must've been OBS fails, my one issue with allowing low end PCs is the splicing risks but I did wish low end PCs had more of a chance at times, hardware limitations are mostly burdens even if with security breach It turns the game into exploit heaven

@@ahmed4363 "For some reason" probably being that running the game at your current video settings uses up too much of your GPU, so OBS drops frames all over the place. Try running the game at a lower framerate and/or on lower graphic settings. Recording FPS should improve.

3:05 Oh please, that speedrun is clearly legit. They're just playing at such an optimal level that only the most prolific speedrunners can perceive their real gameplay. Your skill is so unrefined that all you see is someone flying through the map. @@magnateze thats the best type of broken, makes it entertaining for speedrunners/longtime players, while also making it a good experience for newcomers thats why im usually against fixing glitches that require someone to go out of their way to do, if a new player is very unlikely to do it, it isnt removing anything from their experience and might even add more to it later on

5:12 the reason why it's so flashy is because the runner probably opened another app or something at the same time the game loaded up, it happens to me sometimes while playing roblox and the only way i could stop it is by pressing alt+f4 or ctrl+alt+delete i'm guessing what's happening is the computer gets confused and wants to have both of the windows open at the same time

Hold it! You can tell by the game audio being consistent that the run was not cheated!

A good way to prevent an uptick in troll runs is to do these videos on different games without saying which one ahead of time. You should see if any other mods for other games have entertaining rejected runs to send you.

I think that's what he is doing. He also said he's not doing a second one to prevent any further trolls. I guess a possible issue would be that Spiff is already known to moderate Poppy runs, so people could easily troll whenever Poppy 3 comes out.

The irl pizza% is hilarious to me because at a pizza place I used to manage we would actually have someone from corporate come in and stop watch us on making 3 large pizzas. I shit you not we had to speed run pizzas for a raise.

the funniest thing is the first speedrun with the 1:59 the guy commented saying the video still wasnt fake even though he got exposed to 1.1 million people lol

Thankfully, according to a different mod, the mod that rejected their run is no longer a mod, hence why Spiff's verification will stay :)

As a disabled person who’s just recently lost the ability to the things I used to Herma’s pizza run getting verified was so good to see I used to love baking I’m getting a chair so I can hopefully start again with help

I love how I played Get a snack at 4 am SNACKCORE yesterday and saw that game being played as a speedrun

Fnaf:sb former mod here. Thoses runs are some of the worst we've seen. There was alot of troll runs, some bad attempts of cheating, alot of bad recordings. Spiff was a pretty nice mod. I was very happy to mod alongside him tho we didn't chat alot of at all. Anyways have fun and happy running guys!

My sister and I have both played Security Breach and literally never had rooms load. I have a pretty decent gaming desktop, she has a gaming laptop. The game was already so laggy we'd never have anything running, but there would be times that we'd have to shut down the whole game just because we ran too fast and hung it up. TL;DR, Security Breach is a hot melting pot of super fun but annoying shit.

21:06 This is an actual problem with PowerDirector that I have noticed. I don't know which versions do this, but I know mine does. Apparently when producing video files, audio can desync from the video (no matter how well-synced it is in the preview), and it is a pain to make sure the final production is completely synced ESPECIALLY when there are several splice cuts. It's super infuriating sometimes (especially with lip syncing), and I can't find a way to solve this other than desyncing EVERYTHING so the produced file has properly synced audio-visual content. Plus the desyncs are inconsistent. [However, it is strange that the produced videos was SECONDS off, my issues are just based on a few frames]

14:17 You think that's bad? I *verified* a Fantastic 4 full-game run in which the player paused the game and LEFT for over 20 minutes in the middle of the run. It was the first full game run EVER submitted, so I sat there, watching every single second, waiting for them to come back, JUST in case there was somehow a splice (not that I probably would have known!)

The reason he teleported with a fazerblaster after he died was because of a glitch with saves, if you die without saving once, the game resets you to another save, this guy saved on the Vanny bridge

The clip at 8:05 was my genuine first impression of the game, my hardware was just not strong enough to load anything for literal minutes to where I had to pause the game in the chase scenes just to play the game. Surprising I didn't refund the game for that alone but man was pre-patch SB funny as hell to play. Good game would play again.
