The doxie falling downstairs is a good example of how this breed ends up paralyzed. I’ve known a few through the years that ended up with broken spines from falling from the couch and stairs.

Very true. At one time, I was the proud parent of four dachshunds (all bred by a family friend who likely shouldn't have bred them). They were wonderful - three sisters and one brother - but they were very unhealthy. Long story short, over their lifetimes, we ended up having to have NINE back surgeries performed across the four dogs! We had small stairs they could use to get up on the couch and beds and carried them downstairs to go outside as much as possible, yet it still happened. Poor breeding and genetics, I think, but I still love the breed and probably will always have a dachshund in my life, despite the health problems.

I was HORIFFIED . I would have been airborne to mitigate that fall. They are our charges and we must protect them no matter what!

Dachshunds doesn't know they are small or cute. That is the first thing you should know about them. Dachshunds bred for hunting are often extremely stubborn, brave and often aggressive against other dogs and strangers who intrude on "their" turf. (I live in a part of Europe where Dachshunds are popular hunting dogs. I haven't met an American bred Dachshund but from videos, they seem to be smaller and more docile) They are also playful, loyal and make absolutely wonderful as companions, but you should treat them the way you would treat a large powerful dog, or they will rule you.

Shout out to that owner for having a dachshund that charged a moose for him. Size doesn't matter when you care about someone.

I cannot stress enough what the dachshund did with the moose. I saw that video in many social media platforms, and I always comment the same. The dog put himself in danger to draw the moose attention away from his owner. Is not randomly doing dumb stuff. Is smart and brave enough (like most dachshunds) to do that on purpose.

My doxie used to make what i called " mean face", when she would bare her teeth!

I had my 2-year-old dapple chase a mama moose out of our yard in alaska.

I was okay till the pup went tumbling down the stairs. Who stands and films while this happens to their dog, especially a breed that can easily break it's back? And thinks it's funny. This person should be reported and should NOT be allowed to have pets. Disgusting!

Have you ever saw a Dachshund in a "fight" with something bigger? We had one. She launched two attacks. One to the front. Then she moved suddenly to the left or the right. The bigger Dog or the bigger animal needed his time to move... but the Dackel is already in position to attack the weak underbelly from behind. This is some kind of "a dance". Dachshund can do this over an over again. Don't forget. Dackel are the most popular hunting dogs in Germany. Fearless. Always having a plan.

Put a dog gate on those steps, and carry the dog up, and down when needed. Doxies are highly susceptible to IVDD.

Our little kiddo had a herniated disc at 4 years of age. $7000 later, he recovered beautifully. He didn't have any kind of accident, but when left at home alone, he's in his crate. Thankfully, having pet insurance, they paid half. He will be 8 years old in November and you'd never know that he ever had a problem

my bosses sausage dog makes me laugh every day

Some of these are funny like the doxie using the sofa to it's advantage and barking at the bigger dogs. However, I do not like the one of the doxie falling down the stairs. That's gotta hurt. And their backs are vulnerable.

If you don't think Doxies are smart, savvy, then can your dog figure out it can move its bed TO the sunny spot? OK then.
