    I thought about, "how would I build this project?" After considerations I decided the way you're doing it is probably the cheapest way possible! Many other ways but you and the customer made the correct decision. I'm glad you're sharing this excavation project with us viewers. You're showing some of it's challenges. Thanks. ....13

    The one's that said dragline clearly have no heavy equipment experience. The weight would sink it in an instant; not to mention the transportation cost and planning that would be involved in moving such a machine. I wouldn't do anything different then what you did. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos even though I'm a heavy equipment operator and operate the same machines as you. I still like to see the heavy equipment and how other operators do things. Thanks again Chris for taking the time and effort to make these videos

    In the U.K. years ago they used to dredge lakes with two steam traction engines one on each side of the lake. both engines were fitted with a big steel cable drum slung under the belly/boiler of the engines.They then had a special double bucket which they pulled backwards and forwards across the lake and kept moving the traction engines along as they cleared the lakes. they ended up with all the silt on both sides of the lake......

    Yeah the only way to really clean out that much silt effectively is a floating sand barge operation with floating pipes pumped to shore. They operate in the broad river NC behind a dam near where I fish a lot and in spring time it might be 1 to 6 feet and by fall it will be 25 ft deep for over a mile. At Lake Lure NC near me they have spent millions with a long loader over the years and don't even make a dent in the silt. We've tried to get them to set up a pump operation but they said the property owners didn't want the water to be muddy during tourist season. The town can only long load for 3 months during winter draw down. Got news for them. It is working it's way very far down lake. Way down lake where it used to be 40ft deep is now around 6 or 7ft. When I built my 4 acre pond 28 yrs ago I filled in the deep creek gully above pond with a riprap dam 13 feet high. The silt now is almost to the top but hasn't entered my pond yet. It will last until I'm dead and gone.

    Actually I just got done working on a dragline from the 70’s and I tell you what the size of the one I got done working on would more than cover the span of that gap in between both sides of the tree line ... without spinning .... , but just the shear size of it to move and reassemble would take a weeks worth of work , just not feasible with that little job. Y’all fell and bumped your head on that idea lmao 🤣

    Enjoying a cup full of Chick Fil A tea in there? I grab a gallon of mostly non sweet tea when I am working long hard days outdoors. The one I go to is pretty relaxed about things, so they put 10% sweet, rest not sweet. Grab some cups of ice and I am set for the day. The two of you are machines, making quick work of a nasty muddy mess of whats left upstream. That drone shot gives a great perspective of the insane volume you are moving. 10K yards... Must be a million dollar job by the time it is all said and done, and if nobody wants the dirt, cost to wheel all that out must go up even higher.

  • @Squat5000

    @Squat5000

    5 жыл бұрын

    Excavation in this kind of mess generally runs about $20-30/yd, or $200/hr to run the excavator depending on how it is bid. And the cost to haul away the dirt, since it is also a swampy mess could be as high as another $20-25 since this is not ideal topsoil most likely, so yes, you are probably more in line with the real cost. Now factor in government surcharge. I cant imagine this being a private project.
