All Glory to God that you both are alive and recovering 🙌🏽 absolutely horrific. When Kristin talked about how everything went to fast and yet so slow ... I know the feeling ! I also had a car coming directly towards me a day after my birthday & hit my leg & weirdist thing is that at the moment I didn’t feel pain !!!! I couldn’t walk for a month. A reminder that we NEVER know when it life can be over & how the devil tries to ruin our faith & peace. Again , SO HAPPY you guys are alive & thriving. NEVER forget the thank god for everyday & pray over you’re bike , the roads, car, etc because the devil tries anything!

Yes, truly God's 👼 angel's were surrounding you that horrible day. As the saying goes, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and it's very true. I broke my femur at 60 (2015), while visiting my husband in the hospital recovering from a brain stem stroke. My husband did recover. Like you, Kristen, the full extent of the pain did not hit me right away. What I remember most was hearing my bone break as I went down. Definitely something I hope to NEVER hear again. The worst part for me was my husband witnessing all of it. The first year was the hardest for me. My break was right at the knee, the screws kept me from bending my left leg very far. After the year bench mark I went in and had 2 screws removed. Within a month, I could bend my leg again, without pain. Last year, at 64 (2019), my dog tripped me, I fell and broke my left hip at the same place as yours. For me it was a breeze, guess I received some strong blessings this time. I needed as my husband finally passed the year before. My left leg will never be as strong or dependable as my right, but at 65 now, I know how truly blessed I am. I'm extremely mobility and agile, not going to let a cpl of breaks slow me down.....lol I didn't have the horrific trauma you experienced that so much more onto your physical and mental recovery. However, You're both young and healthy, your bones will grow strong again. In a year (if not much sooner) I'll lay down odds you'll be back to your busy active lives. So happy you are both recovering and staying positive, as it's everything. Much love and many prayers 🙏♥️🙏♥️ sent your way. God bless....

Yup! With the police engaging in high speed pursuits in densly populated areas putting drivers and pedestrians lives at risk...a helmet can help! Police killed a girl I went to uni with during the pursuit of another vehicle. She was crossing the road in a bus interchange, usually inaccessable to regular cars/traffic, when the police car plowed straight into her.

As a registered nurse, I am outraged that the care team missed your hip fracture and then the PE. That is absolutely absurd because a hip fracture and a PE are both obvious things to diagnose with very simple tests especially considering recent trauma. Moreover, the signs and symptoms seen with PEs and hip fractures are often textbook. The fact that you continued to work with physical therapy to bear weight on your fractured hip could have caused further injury. Even worse, had the PE traveled it could have been easily fatal at the hands of that hospital. I am so sorry but I am in genuine disbelief over your experience. On the upside, I am very glad that it worked itself out, and that you both survived with no neurological trauma. What a miracle that is.

Marycate Hamele they can’t sue for the fracture caused in the original accident; however, if something changes about the fracture because of failure to provide proper treatment then they might have a case. Regarding the blood clot, they may be able to file a malpractice suit if they can show with the help of a lawyer that there was negligence and that this was the direct cause of the blood clot. But there’s probably more to it than I may be aware of since I work directly in patient care and not on the legal side of things

Claire B my 8 year old got viciously attacked by a dog and was in the er for 13 hours getting treatment. The sedation they tried to use on him (they pushed iv sedation no less than 7 times) did not work because of all of the adrenaline pumping through his body. He was screaming and crying what seemed like hours when they were stitching up his face. He was inconsolable. Hour 10 he stops kicking and screaming and crying (there was 5 of us holding him down and the dr doing his magic) puts his hand up (this is the way the dr told him to communicate) and screams at the top of his lungs....STiTCHES SUCK!! Then he giggled a little and u hear the whole pediatric ward quietly giggle, then say...AWWW! I think it was just what everyone needed at the moment! It’s amazing what our bodies and minds do to get us through traumatic events!🤍 He then put his hand down and said...”Sorry Doc....I just needed a moment. You can finish now”!

I broke my lower back in a car accident. A pastor came in my room at the hospital just before my surgery. He said "Sometimes God puts us on our backs so we have to look up." This thought helped me through the pain and convalescent period. I am passing this wisdom on to you. So glad you two are on the mend. God has plans for your lives or he would have taken you home. At 3:45, when you're describing how the driver went from one side of the road to the other, where y'all were at, I immediately had anxiety, bc this happened to me & a friend!! My friend LITERALLY saved my life. It was one of the most horrific experiences I've EVER endured. To know that someone was intentionally trying to hit us was the absolute beginning of the nightmarish experience. To watch as my friend pushed me w/all his force & get me on the sidewalk (bc we were crossing a street at a crosswalk) & as I turned to grab his hand to pull him to me, the truck ran over his body - I was in pure shock. Have you ever had that nightmare where you're trying to scream, but NOTHING is coming out? This was me, except in REAL life, not a nightmare. When I was finally able to scream, ppl said it was like a wail that a mother does when she's lost a child. I'll NEVER get that moment out of my head. Luckily, bc of my friend, I survived w/o a scratch. Unfortunately, David (my friend), wasn't as fortunate, but he survived. He had a few years of rehabilitation & therapy, but I'm forever grateful he survived. At the hospital, when I asked him WHY he saved me instead of saving himself, he said the sweetest, SADDEST thing I've EVER heard. "Honey, you have two kids to live for. I'm gay, so according to the world, I'm going to Hell anyway. I'm not worth saving." Obviously, I told him he was wrong, but it broke my heart that he thought this. When I told my dad what he said, it was one of the rare moments that I witnessed my dad cry. He used to be extremely homophobic, but after this happened, he COMPLETELY changed & started his apologies with David. My dad told David, "Son. My daughter told me what you said. In my opinion, there's NO WAY you're NOT getting into Heaven. Bc of you, my grandkids still have their mom, I still have my daughter, & she's the most precious thing in our lives. You did something so courageous that I doubt most men would do - straight OR gay! PLEASE forgive me for EVER thinking gay men were any less of men. I can only show you through my actions that my change of thought is permanent & I swear, it starts with you. You've saved two lives today. I can never thank you enough."

Study hard and follow your dreams! Don't let anyone discourage you. You have a lot of hard work and studying ahead but you can do this :) But I agree! I am a nursing student and also work part-time as a medical assistant. The staff in that ER did a horrible job of assessing this couple's injuries. I get that ERs are busy places and they can only focus on so much at once but seriously, they still need to be thorough with their assessments!

“Phantom Pain” this is why we all need to medically advocate for ourselves!! I have chronic pain and 2 severe, active autoimmune diseases. I cannot tell you how many times I have been misdiagnosed. Or how long it took for me to get diagnosed because my first doctors told me it was in my head! I actually walked on a fractured hip for 3 months being told it was “Phantom Pain” if this helps one person, telling their story is EVERYTHING 🤍☀️Stat healthy and safe everyone!

  • @meganlanham25

    @meganlanham25

    3 жыл бұрын

“Phantom pain” or “referred pain” is actually real pain, and can occur after any kind of trauma (car accidents, surgery, etc). PT’s are not taught to read radiographs in depth as much as MD’s and radiologists are, so I’m not surprised that the PT’s trusted the people who are supposed to be good at their job when they said there was no hip fracture. That being said, x-rays are awful for trying to seeing a fracture right after trauma, especially if the fracture is non-displaced or is a stress fracture. I’m shocked the medical team didn’t order an MRI, which is the gold standard for observing fractures. Kristin and you are unfortunately the victims of neglect from medical doctors failing to do their job properly. I’m so sorry that you both experienced medical negligence. No one deserves that.

Yes!!! I broke my foot when I was 10, and it was a really weird break- a piece of bone had broken off and then split in two. I have a high pain tolerance and it didn’t swell so when I went to the doctors they told me it was a growing pain and would take a few months to go away. I walked on it for SIX MONTHS before finally having another X-Ray and ending up in a cast for another 3 months

It kinda freaks me out how the doctors say it's nothing without being 100% sure and a while later they call and say oops. I know no one is perfect, but when the patient says something doesn't feel right, as a doctor you shouldn't assume they are exaggerating or its "phantom pain" smh

@@juliaschweizer5144 I’m late, by literally months, so sorry if this is annoying lol. But, most likely they were placed separately because of how severe their injuries actually were. If their injuries were either very different or both very severe, they may have needed to be in different specialty units or placed in different places on the same unit. Especially with such an intense amount of bodily trauma, they might have just not wanted them together in the same room just in case they both needed urgent care at the same time because then the nurses in that area would be too overwhelmed and there wouldn’t be enough space in the room for proper care to be given. There’s a small chance that they could’ve been placed in different rooms for patient privacy reasons before they were able to fully confirm their marital status, but I don’t think this was the case personally.

In a biomedical class in high school, I learned that when you are helpless right after an accident and no one is around, your body goes into survival mode where it sends off endorphins to block the pain your feeling. Once you get help, you start to feel a sense of comfort that your going to be okay so you begin to feel that pain, which is maybe why Kristen immediately started feeling pain when the paramedics arrived. I am so incredibly glad you guys survived this and are able to use your story to share with others. God loves you and has big plans for you, much love. 💕

Thank you both for being courageous to recount this story, to praise God’s work, and honestly not break down and still be able to find humor in some moments (I would be an absolute mess). I’m loving you guys more and more, and so thankful for each of you and your love for God. Praying for you and praising the Lord for His sovereign hand 💞

I've recently stepped away from being a Muslim and now consider myself an Agnostic because I have seen God work through different religions. 100% God was there that night. I can't see it any other way. God is real and there are many ways to worship Them, but the Johns' have God's blessing tenfold.

My husband was hit from behind while riding his bicycle. She was going 50 mph and didn’t touch the breaks. Skull fractures, brain bleed, back broken in three places, his neck was broken, and 6 broken ribs. He was hit in Oct, they told me 6 months to a year recovery. He was home in November, only needing PT. Prayers and Angels were working hard.

I never used to but then I witnessed somebody have a similar accident and later heard they'd died of a head injury. Surgeons said wearing a helmet would have almost guaranteed survival. The kid was only 10. And now his family have to live with that I know so many people that don't wear one just because they don't like how they look in it, or it feels wrong, or they don't have the latest style or the 'majority doesn't so I'll look out of place'. I wear a helmet on every ride now, whatever the weather with no 'ifs' or 'buts'. You only have one head guys, look after it!

Same! I live in The Netherlands and like 99% of people who use the bike for everyday life don't wear a helmet
