    I love the introduction to this, with the old TV in the smashed out building playing the last of the Pre-War TV Broadcasts. It really makes you wonder why no one in the Fallout universe has TVs. You’d assume that in the far future, like in New Vegas, where both the NCR and New Vegas exist as proper civilisation that you could live in, or maybe in Fallout 2’s Vault City, people would start to develop technology like TV again and there’d be little TV stations rigged up in some of the biggest, most developed cities.

    Agreed. I'm glad to support Oxhorn to play through and narrate the game for us. I've tried multiple times to play though and it just doesn't hold up anymore. It may have been a breakthrough or amazing at the time, but today its just not as immersive, engaging as the 3d versions. All these arguments for how FO3,4 don't offer you good choices, or game affecting decisions. Which turns out to be an idealized fantasy, because as Oxhorn reveals to us, there really is only one ending, negative dialogue has no real impact other than getting you into a fight, which fights force you to kill or be killed. There is NO running or sneaking away, returning later to try again. LOT of SCUM saves or restarts in FO1.

  • @Thagomizer

    @Thagomizer

    @@magnoguidoFallout 3 has absolutely nothing on either of its predecessors aside form graphical presentation. One of the major differences is the fact that FO1 and FO2 play significant'y differently depending on your character build, and to the point where you can't experience everything there is to experience in either game in a single playthrough. I've played Fallout 2 more than a dozen times from start to finish, and each time I learned something new. There is always one ending in FO1 in the sense that you are always exiled, but what happens to the rest of the wasteland (and what happens immediately to the Overseer) depends on the decisions you've made. And you absolutely can use stealth to get through the Mariposa Military Base and the Cathedral with a maxed out stealth skill. It's also possible (though difficult) to play a complete pacifist run with this game. Fallout 2 is a lot more complex than the first game in this regard. Oxhorn hasn't done it yet, so you don't know how far that game goes. Of course, you could always play it yourself . . . Fallout 3 and 4 don't even think to give you a proper epilogue.

    @@magnoguido FO1 was somewhat limiting but you could choose plenty of play styles. I would sneak more like playing thief, by waiting for their line of sight to change, path carefully, etc. But the story, dialogue, consequences and so on in FO2 to me are a masterpiece of its time. I still remember trying to repair the nuclear reactor at Gecko and accidentally patching into a dialogue with the Enclave and then goading them through dialogue. For the time, they were absolutely amazing and showed immense attention to detail. FO2 you find out how the world became the way it was. If Bathesda had expanded on that plot point instead of focusing almost completely on the Chinese as the primary threat, they would have droves of more ways to branch the game.

Seriously, you did an incredibly thorough playthrough, and none of the nitpicking haters would have even 1% of the patience you had in putting this together. You even typed in the manual "Ask about what?" phrases to get the NPCs additional reactions/story elements. 10/10 amazing work.

    For me it's the lack of real immersion with the isometric bird's eye view and the point and click diablo kinda controls. What I love the most about fallout is walking around in the world and seeing it firsthand, being a part of it. Unfortunately, the limits of the technology at the time it came out made that impossible. It's all just sprites. But I'm still interested in the story, and I wish someone would remake it as a mod but keep its more scary, desperate kinda tone and complexity that was lacking from the newer games. I wanna be able to explore the wasteland of Fallout 1 and 2 instead of just watch a dotted line go across a map and explore small set pieces individually.

There is an exploit to get around the inventory limit. If you sell the stuff to your companion they never refuse to take it. That way they can carry unlimited amounts. I was too young to know what even fallout was until New Vegas. I’m so glad you took time to tell the whole story of Fallout for people that get bored watching let’s play of it. You make it so entertaining. I personally wouldn’t play this but I like that I can still get the story from you

    To me Fallout 1 is still the atmospheric high point of the Fallout series; the only other entries that come close to inducing that bleak feeling of dread are Dead Money and maybe Lonesome Road.

    Mainly 3 NV and 4, where it changed from the third person feel to a first person. Also in 3, NV, and 4, the art style is very different.

    Is that a snowball? I thought it would be cold day in the post apocalyptic waste land, before Oxhorn would do a complete walk through of fallout one. But here it is and Oxhorn is throwing snowballs everywhere.

    I'm a fan of the Fallout series of games. I'm a fan of Oxhorn. However, I can't stand spoilers, so I did what any sensible person would do... I just bought all Fallout games on Steam except FO4. I will play them and then watch your videos Oxhorn. Keep up the good job man.

    Yep, especially since there's no radio in this game, hell, the only song you hear is "Maybe" by the Inkspots, which is already an eerie song. The rest of the soundtrack gives of a feeling of emptiness. While the newer ones go for more of an adventure/wonder type of feeling.

    Yassssssssss! Ever since your Junktown video last year, I’ve been patiently waiting for Fallout 1 Lore!!! This was the first fallout game I ever played. My dad said it was a classic and let play it before the release of fallout 3. I love the atmosphere and music of this game. Can’t wait to see your play through Oxhorn! You put so much time, effort, and dedication into each video!Thank you Oxhorn!

    I never had this game until recently, It’s fun using this as a guide to get through it. Of course no two games go the same, but you can save what you like, and redo what you don’t. I’m glad and thankful you made this.
