Hey Aaron, are there any courses / tutorials you'd recommend for learning how to color grade Flog / Flog2? I typically use the Fuji supplied LUTs on my Log footage and it looks great to me but I am wondering if there's another level to move to with a bit of training. Thanks!

Love this Aaron - Genuine, likeable guy with informative content. I have been flicking back and forth from Sony Alpha 7IV and the this baby more times than I can remember. Maybe you can help me out man! What's your thoughts on the Sony A7IV? It must have been on your radar as a competitor. Thanks bro. Tom
@itsaaronmiller
Жыл бұрын
Hey Tom, that's a great question! I was very much torn between this and the A7IV as well. What it came down to was the fact that I shoot 99% video. So ultimately, I considered the Fujifilm camera a better video camera. The other factor was that I was already deep in the fujifilm ecosystem. There are however things I would consider if you aren't already invested in a specific ecosystem. If you are largely hybrid and do a lot of both, I'd maybe consider the Sony. If you do mostly stills, I'd definitely consider the Sony. If you do mostly video, however, It's a bit more nuanced. The Fujifilm is better than the Sony in video if: 1. You are comfortable with manual focus ( it's just not good enough for me to trust it in most situations on Fujifilm) 2. You live in a warm climate where long format recording is frequent and you can't risk overheating. 3. You really need a fast sensor readout and don't want rolling shutter. To me, this was pretty huge, because I really dislike the look of rolling shutter! While the Fujifilm has better in camera codecs and ability to record external BRAW, some people can't get past the autofocus and limits there. I'd love to make a video actually to elaborate on this, because it is the main competitor in the price range!
Thank you for your detailed Video on the Camera! Helps a lot :) I a have a short question on how you transform the flog 2 with davinci CST since there is only "fujfilm flog" in Input Gamma even in Resolve 18? Maybe i missed something :)

I can do a head to head! The R6 is very limited in video depending on your needs. I’d never really rely on it as an A cam for any major shoot. But I’ll try to quantify that with some numbers on a test eventually!

Hmm I definitely suggest shooting in log and then transforming them to the same color space. This can be done with cinematch or for free inside Davinci resolve with a CST node. I’d suggest the DR route because it’s free. Maybe I can work on a video about this!

@@itsaaronmiller Thanks Aaron - appreciate your feedback mate....Yes I thought this - I bought Film Nitrate thinking it would be my salvation, shot in F-log, but then realised the Canon 1DX doesn't shoot in C-log so feel a little stuck... I guess there must be a closer setting to use on Canon to replicate, and then maybe shoot everything on Fuji on their ETERNA setting which could save me loads of time in the Wedding Edit (and also allow me to sell couples their FOMO Hard Drive of all footage too)...
@itsaaronmiller
Жыл бұрын
@@AndLoveFilms yeah couldn’t hurt with trying that! If I were you, I’d shoot log on the Fuji and in the flattest profile possible on the canon. You can then still use a CST to turn the rec709 canon footage to flog gamma and rec2020 color(just record in the highest bitrate on the canon). This will at least get uou a good starting point. For doc and fomo edits, I just quickly slap on the corrective lut which shouldn’t take more than a minute. It’s worth the flexibility of log. I did however shoot in eterna for the longest time and it’s still a great color profile!

Sold all my Sony gear for the XH2S and an XT4 (as a "fun camera" for street photography and traveling plus a decent B camera) and I could NOT be happier. This thing is so capable and honestly far ahead of similarly priced Sony cameras in everything besides autofocus. If you can get by with the more limited, but still very capable AF system, the XH2S is one of the best value hybrid cameras today.

The XH2s is an awesome VIDEO camera---far better than the XT3, which is, in and of itself, a wonderful camera. The AF is a huge step up. Not perfect, but none is--no not Sony, not Canon. Use at your risk. But I find the AF to be incredibly usable in 95% of the cases. Love the colors love the image---it's just the best. Film simulations out of the camera--fantastic. FAR better than Canon or Sony. IMO Fuji has only one serious competitor IF they get their AF act together, and that would be Panasonic. Don't hold your breath for Panasonic AF. Otherwise, it's a super solid camera.

I never use the dials on my X-T4 to change ISO and SS because I got used to the command dial setup for video (front dial ISO, rear dial SS). If I can get that on the X-H2S I won’t have a problem with the dials not being buttons anymore. Being able to customize the command dials to whatever you’d like is a no brainer. I wonder why Fuji decided not to give us the ability to change them.
