everyone is missing the funny moments, but that's one of the reason why the author didn't like the old fruits basket. they added too much comedy. i like this better for a lot of reasons. but the main reason is that it follows the manga timeline and the well balance of everything. not too much comedy and too much drama.

I didnt watched the old one. But I dont think it would need more humor or comical sceens. It has a good balance, its cute, serious and sometimes funny.

As someone who has seen both animes and read the manga, I can honestly say the 2019 version is much more accurate to the manga. For those who are complaning about the reboot being less comedic, should probably realize that the manga wasn't that comedic either. One of the reasons the Fruits Basket author didn't like the 2001 anime was BECAUSE of all the extra comedy added in. And besides the plot,I'm also head over heels for the art style.

@@misslady1154 same here! I really love the art style. They are much adorable and appealing for me. One of the reasons I’m relying on the 2019 reboot because I don’t like the art style of the manga. I tried reading but some characters are not drawn proportioned enough? hahaha I don’t know if you know what I mean. But overall I loveee Fruits Basket and I’m now counting the days before season 3 is officially out! 🤩

Whats wrong with you guys ... the remake art is so contrasty and light colored that its painful to look at. The original's art style is a lot softer, have a rich range of tones therefore way more atmospheric which was why it was so endeared ...

@@88feji I mean we're all entitled to our own opinions. I personally prefer the new art style as it feels much cleaner and the proportions in the characters feel much more balanced and pleasant to the eye imop. But if you like the old one,good for you

Actually Momiji's first scene of speaking to Tohru in German and kissing her is in the manga, it's In chapter 8. Cause his father owns the building that Tohru works in. The primary purpose of the scene was so that Tohru in her panic, drops the flyer to the cultural festival and Momiji gives the flyer to Hatori and begs Hatori to take him to it. The removal of this scene in the 2001 version creates a very small plot hole, because without it, how the heck do they know what day the cultural festival is on!?. This was the chapter that was mostly episode 7 of the 2001 version and was moved to episode 3 of the 2019 version. This one especially fit well cause in the manga, it seemed out of place. You had Momiji freaking Tohru out and kissing her....then she runs away and Yuki is waiting for her to walk her home and then it cuts to another scene and it doesn't go anywhere. Whereas in the 2019, it leads to the scene of Yuki accidentally transforming into a rat and talking about his feelings to Tohru.

Honestly!! The 2001 version was shipping Yuki and Tohru..adding romantic scenes between them that's not in the manga..thus making 11year old me think there have more chemistry... but you can see in 2019 and in the manga that kyo is more expressive towards Tohru..and now my 29 old self says they complement each other more!

I really do miss shigure’s humour. I remember how many times he made me piss myself. I’m definitely gonna miss many of his iconic moments. Also can not wait for ritsu

Stop with this bullshit "we shall cherish the OG" cause the OG is not respecting the manga's atmosphere and characters AT ALL. The 2019 version is better in every ways. As a fan of the manga, I don't like how they made it way more childish than it actually is.

CLARIFICATION TIME! I DUN GOOFED! The scene with Momiji does show up in the manga but doesn't appear until Chapter 8 of the manga! Thank you to nolan palmer for telling me! I haven't read the whole manga in years and when I do these videos I have my physical manga in my hand and I am following along as the episodes along with their correlated chapters so I didn't see the momiji scene in chapter 4! I'm never gonna be 100% right or perfect in these videos, but I am happy you all enjoy and put up with me anyway! wuv you all! 💕

At first I was really skeptical of what they were going to use for the opening and ending songs of the new version, because the opening of the original is just way too good, only to be happily suprised that they were able to find songs that matched the tone the original had. Still love the OST of the original but it's a different series of course

leeks are chives are essentially the same thing. they're in the same family and you can even substitute one for the other in recipes. in the manga in the translation i've noticed they're also called chives instead of leeks.

I AGREED. I am watching subs so to me, the voice actors in OG fits better esp for Shigure, Ayame and Momiji. The seiyuus in reboot doesn't suit the Shigure/Ayame/Momiji. I still love Fruba but... the vibe is gone a lil

I can't wait to see the episode where Tohru see's Kyo's other form I love this reboot oh and I like the 2019 Fruits Basket over the 2001 Fruits Basket

Just to put it out there to those that don’t know: the creator of Fruits Basket, Natsuki Takaya, HATES the first adaptation. She likes the music, but she hates the different direction the story took from her original work. So, by denying the remake, you are denying yourself to get a glimpse of what Takaya-sensei wanted her story to be like. The new adaptation is not perfect, of course, but while the original had good comedy, the comedy alone is not why Furuba is a classic. There’s nothing wrong with liking the original. By all means, watch it until your heart content. However, it’s an irrefutable fact that Takaya-sensei was disappointed by the original adaptation and she was elated her story got the reboot it deserves.

I definitely miss the comical side of Prince Yuki Fanclub in the OG, but I guess it might be a tradeoff for darker atmosphere like how it is darker in FMA while it is more comical in FMAB.

These episodes gave me all the feels! It made me laugh, made me cry, I just loved the anime so much!! And I thought Tohru’s tears were beautifully designed in the reboot

One of the things I really liked that was in the manga and was put in this year's version was when Yuki flicked Tohru's relative's forhead hard and stood up to him for her! When I first saw the 2001 version, I was a little disappointed when that didn't happen (Yuki still called the jerk a low life in the manga though, which unfortunately wasn't in the 2019 version). When I was younger, I've read the volumes that were covered in the 2001 anime before I watched it, so there were scenes like that in which I really wanted to see animated. As small as it was, one of my Fruits Basket anime dreams came true! And yes, Yuki was like a king in that scene 😍🐭👑!! Also, Saki was curling Tohru's hair in the manga too. I think it was just another small detail they added to make it more accurate to the manga and to set it apart from the 2001 version.

THEY MADE A REBOOT?! Bruhhh Thank you so much for this I didn't even know, I'm not in the anime sphere as much as I used to be ! I was watching this one moth video ("Some moths are cute" by Squidbibble) and the sound track reminded me of fruit baskets so I looked it up and found your video. I feel Hyped happy and sad (nostalgia always messes me up its happy times that you'll cherish and never experience again). Thanks again !

Not gonna lie. My heart is with the 2001 version. It's got so much character and the flow of it mixed with the music and voice acting is all 100%. Besides the fact it never got a season 2 it's got a special place in my heart. I understand 2019 version is going all out doing it with all the same content as the manga, which I'm so happy for to see the end of it. But it somehow feels empty in a way. The animation is beautiful and I still cry every episode.... But, there's something missing that gave the 2003 version it's charisma and charm, it wasn't copying it straight frame by frame, it instead took the best and important moments and created a fun mix of comedy and sadness mixed with bitter sweet things we can relate to. I love this story, and both versions have their pros and cons. But my heart will always be for the old one 🥰

The original had a more beautiful balance of color tones, softer overall look ... overall original's art style is definitely more atmospheric ... I really hate the remake's art style making everything so much lighter in color and too contrasty .. hate it a lot..

I just started watching the reboot. I'm definitely more of a fan of the 2001 version, but the artwork did improve greatly. I'm bummed out about some of the characters being altered yet I'm glad that they kept the same voice actors. Kyo definitely glowed up.

I just started knowing about Fruits Basket and that thing about the characters being relatable and grounded in reality is so refreshing. Just the entire cast is a blast, the school is so vibrant that like as you pointed out has characters in the background that are doing something like curling Tohru's hair that just adds so much to the atmosphere of the show.

I will be honest I love 2019 Fruit basket more than the original one.

I miss momiji old VA i know he's suppose to be part German and there was suppose to be an accent but man i just feel the 2001 anime excuted the scene with Momiji explaining his mother rejecting him, perfectly. The wording and the softness but maturity in the old English VA fit momiji perfectly at least to me anyway

I've never watched or read anything Fruits Basket before, but judging by this, I'm gonna watch the original anime first. It seems so much more humorous and expressive than the 2019, and a lot more interesting to watch, especially animated wise. The 2019 one looks so pretty, but the 2001 one looks a lot more lively and amusing.

This is what I’m sad about to me the new animation is pretty yes, but it lacks expression even when they’re sad, the just don’t execute emotions well in the 2019 😭

I would say that the remake do not look beautiful at all ... everything too light colored and very hard looking, too much contrast ... The original looks very soft and richer in tonal range, way more atmospheric ...

It’s so nice to see this, because you saw the voice actor development too. I loved the first one, but now it hits differently emotionally. Plus, I remember how it felt so unfinished watching the original.

I really like this kind of video, so please make like this again... And i just love to listen your thought about fruits basket... 😍😍

I love the original 2001 anime more, because it was my first anime and that makes me biased. However, I will admit I am loving what they are doing in the reboot. Not only seeing classic scenes reimagined in a fully colorful hd widescreen, but also seeing some of the manga sets that never have been used in the original. Another thing I should note is that my opinions will mean jack shit, the reboot is just getting started. Even when the series is finished, it'll still have multiple seasons over the single 2001. 2001 or 2019, Fruits Basket is one of my favorite small animes I've ever watched, and I may as well go find the manga after 2019.

Wow! 100% agree. This was my first anime too and was fangirling soooo hard!! I remember like 10 years ago I really wanted them to finish the anime... and now it's happening! However, I'm finding it a little boring. I miss Shigure's Highschool girl song, and the Prince Yuki Fanclub chant. But oh well, the fact that they made a reboot, is my teenage dream come true!!

Really?? This is the first time I've hear about the reboot. Now I hope the do the same with oran host club x3 XD I love this video

Not a reboot because they might change stuff and switch actors and the og is perfect the way it is. It just needs more seasons and a bit of plot coverup to get back in line with the manga. Though they kept it pretty close already.

I remember when I finished the original fruit basket... I was literally IN LOVE with it. I needed another season. However, after reading articles, I realised the cast split and it was unlikely for a season 2 but I always had hope. I managed to learn what manga was several months later and read the series. I was obsessed. As time past, I still thought fruit basket will get a new season. As soon as I heard fruit basket reboot was going to be released, I was so happy. This story has finally got what it deserves... full seasons! Can’t wait until 2020. Hopefully they use the same soundtrack as original. Absolutely beautiful!

My heart the og Fruits Basket was my childhood. Seeing this side by side gave me goosebumps ahhhhh. Especially when the og outro came on.

That just shows how much animation evolved in 20 years ^-^ More smooth, detailed and pleasing to the eyes

I think the anime (new version) has a more serious tone, and I’m totally loving it because it comes off as mature, and if anyone has read the manga, y’all know it gets pretty deep and dark! I further love the beauty and flow of the animation, and the zodiac characters move more fluidly (as you mentioned) like animals. Plus, the facial expressions (though sometimes subtle) are more expressive 😊 I’m just sad thinking about how long I have to wait for season 2! I need to see this anime ‘til the very end! 😭❤️

Yeahhh i messed up lol! I follow the manga as i watch the episode and i haven't read it completely in years so i didn't see it in the ch 4 which corrleated with episode 3! I always loved Fruits Basket because of how I could relate to the characters too, I haven't seen the reboot yet but since I have the complete series of the og on dvd so I'm ok with seeing spoilers. But if I had to be honest, Fruits Basket was the very first anime I've ever watched and my cousin introduced me to this anime and and anime in general, but I'm just so happy that it has come back to life and get to see the whole thing this time. By the way thank you for making these comparison videos it is so awesome to watch these videos and see the similarities and differences in how they made the reboot and I can't wait to see more of them 😊

the unfolding of Shigure's sinister side is one of the things I'm looking forward to the most. I liked his goofy side in the first anime so I was really disappointed when I learned that there won't be a season 2, then I ended up discovering the manga. After reading it, dang! The more I wanna have a season 2 or a remake whatever is possible. Shigure's my second fave character

@@syndryx Supposedly that was one of the major things that the mangaka disliked about the 2001 anime, because by removing the darker side of Shigure you effectively completely change his character which is integral for plot progression since he's such a major catalyst for a lot of the turning points of the series.

@@Sakurabliss7 gotta agree with you with that. Shigure's wish/desire almost single-handedly moved the entire plot. ohh, I just love the man.

I really like the new version better. I also watch(ed) both in Japanese and felt that they were very similar and they are still using the same scene's but cinematic-ally better. Also the heartwarming parts and her character is still there it just develops more in the later chapters/becomes more clear. It is also closer to the manga which makes the story telling better than it was before. Overall it turned out better and kept the nostalgia and the anime feels really soul cleansing which is what I need after a day of work :P

Awesome work with this video! Have been waiting for your thoughts for a while. I’m really enjoying the anime - it’s still a shock when they come up with a different line or a scene is in a different place because I know the OG back to front but I’m trying to take it as a fresh piece and am on my seat every episode. Some of my thoughts... - think the larger scenes and extra detail are awesome. I’m absorbing the fuck out of it as we get more of a peek into the fruits basket world I always wanted to be in! The new episode seeing the Sohma estate was sick! - kind of wish they’d call Yuki ‘Yuki’ - they’re all Sohmas so it irks me every time when she’s like, ‘Shigure, Kyo and Sohma’ - Momiji’s voice change is the first thing that’s come up that I heavily dislike. I know it’s truer to the manga but I always loved his gorgeous voice in the original and one of my favourite scenes is him singing to Tohru in the hot springs - I feel like they’re going to skip this now or it’s gonna be cringe! But I suppose this is a darker take on the show and might not include it? - Kyoko is a fricken BOSS and I’m really appreciating all the extra scenes with her or her being more mentioned - especially with grandpa slipping her name every few minutes! Hope they keep this up - do miss a bit of the humour the original had. I know this is going to take a darker path but there’s a few things that have been missed that I always used to giggle too, and I think they could have balanced the humour and the seriousness. Anyway - PLEASE KEEP REVIEWING VIDEOS. Keen to see what everyone else thinks the next few videos

Omg i just finished watching the Fruits Basket episodes and omg episode 5 made me freaking cry again.

In my opinion, 2001 version was alot much funnier and better, but tbh 2019 drawings are pretty cute

Actually, she did punch with the right arm, but the next scene they showed it with the left arm so it was an animation error both versions. I loved the end of episode 5 too I was crying, laughing, cheering at the same time. I was a weeb mess over here.

I'm absolutely living for this reboot. This story was such a big part of my childhood and to see it being brought to life in it's entirety right in front of me is amazing. Quality wise, I love the reboot a lot more than the original. However, I can't hate on the og anime because of all the pleasure I get from the nostalgia of the iconic lines and comedy thrown in. Man I really cannot stress how much I love this. One day, I'm definitely going to complete my collection of this manga because it's freaking worth the money. Absolute perfection in terms of making me feel all the right feels.

When I first heard they were making a reboot half of me was like "Heck yes!" while the other half is just like "Oh no." since the focus seems to be getting anime out there to audiences is more important than making an anime good. Then I saw the first episode and I was so happy. The characters seem more expressive and little movements contribute to the overall emotional impact of the story. They're not as overexaggerated as the first anime (most of the time) but I feel like they make the characters more relatable since the expressions and movements are less cartoonishly stylized.

As the reboot comes to a close... I just gotta say I'm so glad they rebooted Fruits Basket. It's now one of my favourite series!!!

you dont know how happy i was finding out this anime was getting a reboot!!!! i use to check out all the fruits basket books at the library just so i could read them all i even plan to buy them all once i have a proper place to put them because the 2001 version was my childhood and my actual first introduction to anime. some of the cuts and changes were jarring but then i remember this is following the manga and those chances actually started to make me feel excited because that means WE ARE GETTING THE WHOLE STORY which means all the crazy, dark shit. i cannot, i repeat, CANNOT wait!!

I read the manga and watched the 2001 anime and now I'm watching the reboot. All the feelings I felt so long ago came flooding back and I have cried so much at how relatable this series is. I love it so much. It's a huge part of why I got so into anime/manga.
