I think it has to do with the idea of the shallowness of the movie star, but look at Cumberbatch, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Garcia Bernal. Well rounded artists!

I can't even explain how proud I am of Gael. I'm not Mexican, but I can tell that this guy represents Latin America all over the world. It's great to see someone speaking so candid and intelligently about any subject with no taboos and in a very natural way. Excelente actor y gran activista. Mi más grande admiración y respeto. Desde El Abuelo y Yo, los éxitos no se detienen. ¡Adelante siempre, que Hollywood es un nene de teta al lado tuyo! ¡Qué mucho tienen que aprender de ti!

This is a wonderful interview. Look at Gael's reaction after watching the footage of the bodies hanging from the bridge. He doesn't break necessarily but you can see tears in his eyes. Very moving. He loves his country so much and is proud of his heritage yet it obviously pains him to see the murders and suffering that his people go through. Impressive that he could've chosen to live a life of luxury, possibly even in the United States, yet instead he invests in a film company that produces films that educate outsiders on what is happening in his country. This is a true activist!

I can only say that I have come to know this actor Gael Garcia Bernal and his films, and I have never been more impressed with any actor. His personality seems to come through and his caring about the people of Mexico and the world is so impressive. His films are excellent and I admire him a great deal. I am a citizen of the United States and am grateful that I have come to know this man through his work.

Same here. it looks like I found the ideal actor I've always been searching for. He's versatile and he pulls off any role effortlessly. I've never thought he could be this articulate and intellectual. Call me selfish but he should be protected from the mainstream showbiz. Let this man be a rare treasure only found when you set out in the right direction.

I have watched this interview about 5 times now, just to learn more about Mexico and the people. Gael is a historian in his country and feels so much empathy for his people. What I thank him for is that he has brought this information and activism to us in the United States. His movies, most of them anyway, serve as an education about many countries. He is so intelligent, which only makes his charisma more endearing. I love the pictures of him with his children, which I am sure he feels is his greatest blessing. Besides all that he is incredibly sexy and gorgeous. I live in Chicago, but he is my favorite actor and believe me I have been around for awhile.

Gael is amazingly documented on politics and Mexican contemporary situations, so mature since child, it is why I been following him as he was growing up. I had always feel so proud of him and sincerely happy share his every project success, is so exiting to see he achieves every object he puts on focus. He keeps watching the world very real and projecting it in every performance where he puts his hearth and intelligence on.

Central America is part of Latin America there for it can and should be considered Latin America just as Mexico which is part of North America and Latin America, Latin America is pretty much any country from México to the very last piece of land in South America, Canada 🇨🇦 and the United States of America 🇺🇸 are the only countries not to be considered part of Latin America

5:10 There is a lot of racism towards Mexicans in the world. Sadly, this exist in Mexico too.. It is really sad to see how MEXICAN TV networks(Televisa, TV AZTECA) constantly discriminate in their castings against brown and black skinned Mexicans ( i.e.Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong'o). The Mexican population is mostly brown skin of native American descent. Yet, you mostly see white-blonde actors doing the major roles.. Brown and Black skinned Mexicans are usually relegated to playing secondary roles as servants.. The two major T.V. networks Televisa and T.V. Azteca have been know to IMPORT actors and actresses that meet these physical standards.. It is really sad to be discriminated against. However, it is much sadder when it's your own country men.. You think that this would not matter that much, Sadly, however this has a corrosive effect on the population. You see brown skinned Mexicans Sammy SoSa themselves.. Dying their black hair blonde, trying to make their skin white.. This produces self loathing towards their indigenous roots... PS. Gael Garcia Bernal is a great actor,

communistjesus Blacks have experienced the same thing here, in America. It is why you see black women with relaxed hair, weaves, and light colored contact lenses. It is a self hatred that is brought about by conditioning. Most do not realize they have this self loathing as you called it. It can be as insidious as casting lighter skinned actors as good guys and darker skinned actors as the bad guys. Funny thing is one of the most successful movie franchise, Fast and the Furious, is counter to this type of casting and appeals to a more broader audience. Also City of God, which is actually a Brazilian movie, but very highly acclaimed and very diverse. White supremacy is something, huh?
