I don’t know about anyone else, but I used to have a friend like this (save the putting me on hold thing). I used to get really annoyed with him and brush him off. I later found out that he was severely depressed, lonely, and I was one of the few people that even remotely cared about him. Years later, even though we’re not friends anymore, I still feel bad about it. Just food for thought.

Your friend, with all due respect, sounded like he was leeching off your time to cope with his depression and loneliness. At this point, adults are mostly focused on improving and taking care of themselves. People who drag you down to their problems aren’t friends, they’re crutches. I’ve had multiple “friends” who’ve complained and repeated the same bs knowing damn well they could get off their asses and make something of their lives. Don’t beat yourself up and feel sorry for people who can’t fix themselves. All we can logically do in situations like this is move forward with our lives.

When you have a friend like this, they are either depressed or lonely. They just don't wanna say it. Talk to em like they might be sitting on the side of a bridge
