I never knew my porch was such a busy place until I got a Ring camera. No crimes or suspicious stuff happening, but lots of cute videos of raccoon families, opossum families, cats, and dogs. I was able to prevent my mail carrier from being attacked by a loose big dog, too. Mail carrier had to use bear spray on the dog, and I went to try and help. I feel very protected from my Ring a lot.

My new landlord just told me that i can't lock my screen door, because i'll be charged for it if something hapens to me while i'm inside, and they have to "rip the door off." Rip the door off!?? She's such a drama queen and that's extreme. All they'd have to do is break the glass to unlock the door. I reminded her about a murder 2 doors down from me and she said that was years ago. She down played it as if it wasn't a big deal. 3 years ago isn't a long time, and murder is murder, in my book. They still sell drugs around here so IT IS a big deal to me, because i don't know these thugs who come and go at all hours around here. I had to enlighten her ignorant @s$ and tell her that I can by law, AND WILL, sue her if any injury comes to me while living in her apartment building, be it outside or inside. I won't hesitate to do it now - IF i'm still alive to do so. My safety is more valuable than a beat up 60 year old screen door that she no longer has a key for. That's NOT my problem! I can see what's important to her now, and it's NOT her tenants. What a pos. Typical state run housing bs as usual. They think being poor makes you a stupid person. 🙄 Truth be told, i'm far more intelligent than her. Executive manager of a few buildings doesn't make her genius, and she's not, believe me. She's a dUmB@s$!!

I've got one simple suggestion I told a friend. He had a keypad on his business door instead of keylocks, and I made him aware that the four-digit code we all used... those four buttons were filthy, while the other unused buttons were clean. He thanked me and started making sure that the keypad buttons were all cleaned. Anyone could have figured out the digits to break in, when ten buttons are reduced to only four, since only four were filthy. Just a simple tip.

I could be wrong but if someone were hanging around my door I would NOT tell them I'm calling the police. I would just call the police. I don't see any need to warn them the police have been called so they can leave my property and maybe go find an unlocked door at the house of one of my neighbors. I had two amazon workers try to open my door when the came in to deliver. Even that freaked me out enough. No knock or anything vocal just straight to trying to open the door.

We wish. You can imagine though it would be the one day your son, daughter, wife or husband would forget their key, and then what, you'd never forgive yourself. If we did that in the UK and an intruder went to break into your home and it resulted in them being electrocuted, they'd lock us ("the homeowner") up quicker than our heads could spin, because we have the most pathetic softest criminal system in the world and back to front justice where the criminals are treated like they are the victims and get a 50% discount off on time served, so you do half your sentence for good behaviour. Kill someone, they give you "life" which doesn't really mean life in the UK it's more like 25 years and if you play the game and play your cards right and you're a good boy or girl, its "easy peasy lemon squeezy" and you're out in 12.5 years.

My roommate would get annoyed with me cause I had the deadbolt and knob locked as soon as I got home and once she got home it was chained too. Someone broke into the first floor apartment and would have been able to walk right upstairs to our door had it been open

That guy had to have been completely wasted to want to break into that house with those dogs barking like that. The dogs sounded like they would have taken the seat right out of his pants...and that's if he's lucky. Love this channel !!

Back in the day when I was much younger, I had a tape recorder by the door with a recording of dogs barking. Couple of times I heard someone trying to turn the doorknob to get in. I'd hit the play on the recorder and start yelling at my "dogs" to quit barking. Worked every time. Don't know if would work in today's world.

Man, America has a severe drug problem judging from many of these doorbell videos I've watched so far. SO many of these people are intoxicated or tweaking or what have you, or stealing to feed the beast that has them in its clutches, whatever their beast of choice is. Drugs are fun so long as you can control them. Too often and too quickly, it goes from control of them to being controlled by them, though, and then you have no choice but to do whatever it takes to get that next hit. It's that or try to get into a rehab treatment but for so many of these drugs, the incidence of relapse is too high. We also need to reinitialize our mental health institutions, too. I say that as a woman with a laundry list of mental disorders although I am able to keep mine well contained via medications and regular therapy. My joke is, I take my meds more religiously than most people take Communion, and it's true. I don't like it when I feel out of control of myself. I am one of the lucky ones in that I have a good support system and I have enough insurance that I can mostly afford my medications and my therapy visits but most of the mentally ill or disturbed you see in these videos have fallen through the rather huge cracks in the US's mental health care system, not that there's much of one. SO many of them need to be taken to a facility where they will have long-term housing, food, care, treatment, and not just be left on the streets to live or die at the whim of God. We of the mentally interesting persuasion did NOT do anything "wrong" to have these disorders. They just happen. They're often genetic; in my case, they are. It's not really something you can help although if you want to, you can usually manage it to a degree, depending on how severe your disorder is. Oh yeah, lock your damn doors people. Lock your windows, too, even if you live in a "safe neighborhood". May as well lock your car and your outdoor storage sheds while you're at it. Situational awareness is a very good thing.

True! We live in a "safe"and VERY small town and last night caught someone looking in through our garage windows around 11 pm. He of course ran away and now I'm horrified. I think of all the summer nights last year that I sat outside all by myself in that same garage. Often very late because I'm a terrible night owl. I just feel sick when I think about it and how oblivious I was :( This world is getting worse and worse at an alarming rate...

@@iced.autumn this! My sis and I kept telling our parents we thought we saw someone staring at us behind our pool area where there’s woods. We got so freaked we stopped going out there for a while and my dad was upset we wouldn’t use the outdoor area anymore. He eventually set up these wood camera trap things that camouflage to trees to see if he could see anything out there because when he went out there to check with our mom nothing was ever there. Well one night I saw the man watching me through my backyard while washing my dishes. And thanks to the cameras we caught my neighbor from across the street who also had a history of being a predator. He got arrested (but didn’t stay in long). He moved a month later because the whole area knew and we all learned he was a predator. I was like 15 at this time. I’m 20 now and it seems things have only gotten worse out there.

Glad that the predator got caught but they never seem to get enough time in jail and a new one just ends up taking their place:( It seems so wrong that so many people have to have cameras at their homes now. A few years ago I thought ppl were going a little overboard about it, but now I totally get it. Now I see that I'm the one who was naive about just how crappy and weird ppl can be lol! Anyway, I'm so glad that the cameras helped in you and your sister's situation. Take care and stay vigilant :)

You are wrong. The drugs they prescribe for mental health issues are deadly and cause homicidal ideation.. Even after 1 dose or missing 1 dose..

I live rural on wooded acreage nowhere near any city and my doors and pole barn are always locked (vehicles are always in the barn if not in use), even during the day. None of these people look like they have half a brain, but they would have to be extremely stupid to go to a rural area, as most of us are armed to the teeth, know how to shoot and someone coming onto a porch, deck, or wandering on private property, especially at night, would be considered an imminent threat. I have dogs, who are great first alert alarms and a hidden weapon in every room since it would be either the sheriff or state police that would have to respond here and it could take them a long time to get to me. People in cities are lulled into a false sense of security, as it could easily be 20 to 30 minutes or longer for cops to get to you, depending on how the 911 call is handled and who knows what kind of injuries could be inflicted during that time.

fayanne 123456, Los Angeles California, a friend saw a stranger attempt to get into his patio door during the day. He grabbed his firearm and called 911, It took the LAPD 90 minutes to show up. The intruder had left 15 minutes earlier, they found him down the street, he has a mental issue and lives in a group home and believed he was gaining entry into his own residence. Nevertheless, it took 90 minutes to show up even though the police station was less than 4 miles away. You must rely on yourself!

It’s better to have your own defense than to wait for cops to come ten minutes after you have been rode hard and put away wet. Self defense is the best defense.

I have this burglar dissuader tool made by Remington. Just the sound of the pump being operated sends a message to those who are sober, or even half-sober; the rest don't grasp the seriousness of what they're doing until the loud noise. The guy at 13:00 is looking for a house key, as many people "hide" one under the door mat. Notice that was the first place he looked? Gonna move your "hidden" key now?

We just got our Ring cameras and we love them! The calmness of the woman who had the bullet go by her head amazes me. Seems like she's a little too used to that kind of thing happening. No thanks!

We need police patrols for people who are visibly altered and aimless at night more than pulling over normal people for small driving mistakes.
