The forgotten performance trucks of the '90s!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I want to start off by saying I am beyond grateful for the recent support lately. I appreciate you all.
In today's video, I go over the forgotten performance trucks of the '90s. Before the Ram SRT-10, Ford Raptor, and Ram TRX, there were these trucks! I spend a lot of time working on these videos and the best way you can say thank you is by simply liking the video! It goes a long way, really.

I love how you made reference to the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9. Like you said very few people know about it and it was pretty much like the og “SRT” Jeep as it inspired the later generations. Great show! I loved my 94 S-10 SS, I bought it on impulse, someone had ordered it and the deal fell through. No A/C no Power windows or locks. Just AM/FM Cassette and cloth interior. But 190 hp in an empty truck was enough to smoke some fools at traffic lights. I traded it in on my 99 Ford Ranger. I loved my SS but it sucked in bad weather.

I have a 98 SS s10 I bought new in high school. There were only 4 to choose from in the whole state of MI. Still have it. The only year SS with that front end. Roll pan, manual windows and locks, split bench and solid rear window. I also have the anti hop shock in the rear. These also had a quicker steering ratio gear box. Bone stock at Milan MI went 15.2. There were a few R/Ts and two brothers with SS/T's in my area. We would always look for eachother when we were out driving around just to catch a light. Fun times

I saw a new SST at the Chicago Auto Show in 97, and I wanted 1 so bad. Dealer mark ups were pushing them into stratospheric levels because they were limited editions. We're talking in the 40k range. I ended up special ordering a 98 Dakota Sport reg cab 2wd with the 5.2 and 5 speed which I still have. It has every available option except center console and 3.92 rear gear. I have the folding center console/arm rest and 3.55s. I have just 38k on it now. What I will say is I was lucky enough to work on and drive a 91 454 SS in the late 90s. Chevy did some homework on these things. The trans was crisp, the low end torque was silly. Roasting tires was just a tip of the throttle away. Down side was 1 was not able to haul or tow much with the lowered suspension.

Also in 1991 my new wife gave me the choice, a blue dark gray two tone extended cab with 350 5 speed stick or a new 454 SS, I wanted that SS so bad but it was a two seater , it had a center console and it was my wife and son and me ,no room, so I got the ext cab! I wish they made a 454 in the ext cab, I did test drive it that day! I’m still married to her, nowadays she would tell me absolutely not, her telling me it’s up to you stuck with me till this day, I think because she also liked it, but my son would have to sit on her lap, we didn’t have enough money to buy a second car back then, now I own 6, 23 Colorado TB, 2006 HHR SS, 2008 C6 Z06 Vette, 02 Silverado ext cab I bought new, new Corolla, and her new Toyota Highlander!

im trying to get one of those lightings at some point in my life. Those things are wild. It would be cool to see a video on "the most loyal engines". Engines that typically outlive the vehicle host (aka shipping containers). Engines that are known for being neglected but continue on anyways. Regardless of who makes it. Its neat to see the heartbeat of a car or truck live on in something else.

There was another Ram muscle truck during the 2000s but it was all visual and a conversion truck. The Hemi GTX. Lightning was better than the 454 SS and it didnt blow transmissions and was faster and could haul more. The 5.9 ZJ Grand Cherokee was a nightmare.. we had so many issues with it when I worked for Chrysler. Plus they were getting ready for the second gen GC, with new V8s. Ranger Splash, Edge, Ford Nite F150 and Ranger GT (but that was 80s)

they were considerably less durable than the 318/360 they replaced BUT only due to how it was cared for. The vast majority of Americans wait until theres a problem before doing maintenance instead of preventive maintenance. Ive seen a 4.7 with 300K on it. The guy took care of it. Adding to the issue are dealerships that dont push maintenance are dont enough know the vehicle maintenance schedule.. From transmission fluid changes to timing belts.. @@landonbenford8369

Like A Rock Bob Seger Stood there boldly, sweatin' in the Sun Felt like a million, felt like number one The height of summer, I'd never felt that strong Like a rock I was 18, didn't have a care Working for peanuts, not a dime to spare But I was lean and solid everywhere Like a rock My hands were steady, my eyes were clear and bright My walk had purpose, my steps were quick and light And I held firmly to what I felt was right Like a rock Like a rock, I was strong as I could be Like a rock, nothin' ever got to me Like a rock, I was something to see Like a rock And I stood arrow straight Unencumbered by the weight of all these hustlers and their schemes I stood proud, I stood tall High above it all I still believed in my dreams 20 years now, where'd they go? 20 years, I don't know I sit and I wonder sometimes Where they've gone And sometimes late at night Oh, when I'm bathed in the firelight The moon comes callin' a ghostly white And I recall, I recall Like a rock, standin' arrow straight Like a rock, chargin' from the gate Like a rock, carryin' the weight Like a rock Oh, like a rock, the sun upon my skin Like a rock, hard against the wind Like a rock, I see myself again Like a rock Oh, like a rock

Off road the Dodge Dakota was not even in the same league as the Toyota T100s, the late 80-90s Toyota 4×4s are among the best trucks ever made, i had a 87 with the 22R 5 speed combo it had a 6" suspension lift and a 3" body lift to fit the 35" tires, i put close to 100,000 miles on that truck and never had a mechanical issue with it other than a couple U-joints, i sold it close to 10yrs ago and still regret doing so 😔
