Japanese sports cars from the 80s through to early 2000s really were on another level! They still hold their own even today

simply the best! grew up loving them the most..
i recently bought a 1990 mk3 from queensland and had it towed down the sydney, it’s a import from japan with a factory 1jz, recaro seats and the rare shadow grey interior, since then i’ve taken the engine out and building it with cams and a big single turbo and about 80% done.
Awesome man. Everyone goes on about the Fast and the furious supra. Good to see this Gem get some love as well.

Fun Fact: The car advisor for the original F&F wanted the hero car to be the MKIII (because the dude seriously knew his cars and understood how tunable it was) but the studio rejected it because it was too old.
@Kacpa2
Жыл бұрын
@@rushnerd He proposed Skyline GT-R and NSX, Supra wasxjust cheap and available locally thats why they went for it. Mk3 without 1jz isnt too good. 7m-gte blows headgaskets like there is no tomorrow and has relatively weak block.
@rushnerd
Жыл бұрын
@@Kacpa2 It seems like some make some big power out of the GTE, the block is likely just fine, but yeah it's that head gasket. I really do like the 7M-GE though. Yeah it's no rocket ship, but it grows on you. Just enough power and torque to get just about anything done and be a joy to drive. It's at that level were you get to just "drive a slow car fast" I guess, but for some reason it never feels like it. Besides, the 7M-GE is a HELL of a lot cheaper and less problematic too. I bought mine with the headgasket fixed so it's been turn-key. I'd love a 2JZ, but $6500++ entry is quite steep.
mk3 Supras are one of my favourite cars of all time, and I am a muscle car guy.

I have a Turbo A model which has a 7MGTE making the same stock power as the 1JZ models but released in 1988 instead of 1991. Had it for 6 years now and running a little over 300whp with the original CT26E. With some custom cams from TIGHE and after I send the turbo to Glen Munro for a ball bearing conversion and billet wheel replacement it will make a healthy 400whp and should balance the car out pretty well. No regrets getting the A70 over the A80, it is so much better looking inside and out!

Funny enough, I was able to get my A70 turbo pretty recently for 10k FLAT. Interior was complete and next to new, had a rebuilt 7M-GTE. Most important was the transmission! I was lucky enough to get a R154 with it in GREAT condition. The dude sold it because he simply didn't have the time to keep up on the car. Had to snatch it up as soon as I saw it haha

I bought an NA auto (US) two years ago $8K 114K miles, but it was in FANTASTIC shape and I've got to say, it changed my life. I wasn't even into cars much before, but she kinda forced me to be with the attention it needs, the cosmetic mods you want to put on it, and most of all the HUGE amount of attention it gets anywhere you go. $23K into her now and the engine is basically untouched as is the paint hah. With Fortune 500 coilovers, swaybars, new brakes/wheels/tires/rotors/pads/fixed calipers she is ABSOLUTELY the best handling car I've ever driven hands down. Even for 200HP 195lbs-torque, she is really powerful and you can break out the tail without too much effort.
Always interesting to see something a little different 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Was a really good find to have this car featured! Super rare car
Seeing that ''24 valve twin turbo'' sticker on the side of early Supras and Soarers in the late 90s was one of my best Japanese import memories! It just made it look like the things meant business! Then we all got blinded by their bigger capacity siblings, but these 1G powered cars are so cool to me now! I do think some of the guys on carsales wanting 90 - 120k for moderately high kay and or modified Supras, are being a bit optimistic.

My comment is off topic, but does concern the BA Falcon fans who watch this channel. On all BA's and the SX Territory, the ignition switch is due to either: fall apart or a tab inside the switch will break off. When the internal tab breaks off, the key will not spring back, after being turned to the Start position. This will leave you stranded. I was lucky, the switch fell apart in my driveway. I've fixed it now for $0, verses thousand or more for a replacement steering column. There some videos on you tube that covers how to fix this. Something every BA or SX Territory owner should check. The switch was redesigned for the BF Falcon and SY Territory, which should have fixed the issue.

I’ve personally owned a couple Mk3s. 7MGTE, 7MGE, and currently a 1JZ that’s being built rn. Haven’t owned a 2J Mk3 yet. I’ve a chance to drive a built Mk4 Supra. Wasn’t the same, even though it is a dream car. But I can’t get over the styling of the 3rd gen especially the interior. The Mk4 dash in comparison is underwhelming. Idk, maybe it’s the placement of the Turbo, battery, and oil gauges that I prefer on the 3rd. Either way, love both cars. Nice to see the Mk3 getting some attention.

100% agree both cars a good and depending on what you want from them i guess leaves you your answer.. all out speed and performance get a MK4 but for looks, retro charm, character, steering, enjoyable raw driving experience.. im all team MK3.. loved this car and ive been in a hotted up MK4 supra i felt the mk3 was more special

Mk3 is far more useable amd cheaper. Mk4 is overhyped and hss a sorry excuse for the trunk and rear seats compsted to celica.(trunk is so shallow that even small briefcase wont fit) mk3 with 1jz and velour seats is the best. Also pop up headlights
I have a manual MK3, 7mgte down here in NSW if you'd ever like to do a video on it! Hard to find one with this engine that still runs.

Hi Ross, my name is Max I live in Perth Western Australia and have been watching your videos for a long time. I am 12 years old and run my own detailing business of my own. I personally love Bowdens products, my main favourite product is vinyl care as it leaves a low sheen, protects very well and most importantly smells like bananas. If I win all these products will be put to great use in my business and with the lanyard and stubby holder would be placed in my room on display.

The 7m is also legendary if you know what your doing with it.. not to mention it paved the way for the 1jz... but don't mention any of that, that's cool🙄.. without that incredible engine there would be a 1jz or a 2jz. Give credit where credit is due. Also the 30k comment...😂😂 that is litterally perfect condition prices dude.. a "half decent, half running" as you called it.. mk3 supra can be between 5-15 these days, even at 15 it's going to be in good shape, not needing much work.. I picked up mine for 3k usd in 2022 running and driving turbo auto.. all it has is the typical electrical issues that an original 30+ year old harness would have.. and needs a paint job.. sounds like you need a bit more research before doing a car review
