The forgotten grave of Coronation Street legend Pat Phoenix in Crosby, Merseyside

Mr H visits the peaceful churchyard of St Peters & St Pauls in Crosby, Merseryside to take a look at the forgotten and neglected grave of Coronation Street legend Pat Phoenix who became one of the first sex symbols and stars of British television through her role as Elsie Tanner, a role which she played from 1960 until she left the long running soap opera in 1984.

Agreed, you would think that Pat Phoenix would've received a better grave marker. A big and well loved British star, so wholesome, dramatic and larger than life and this is where she ended up, sharing a plot that needs some TLC. Sad. On the other hand I suppose at least she has an existing grave marker when so many don't 💔

I saw her and got her autograph when he came to a Wigan ath v Show biz 11football match in the 60s, then a couple of years ago I was sat in a Chinese restaurant in Soho and Tony stuck his face against the window to see if their was any room inside. Roy I like the new style of waving your hands around like they do on the telly, it make you look like you know what your talking about.

Pat Phoenix remember her well Mr H a Brilliant actress and sexy with it. Your right about the grave you would think the Blairs with all there money they could pay for a decent memorial for her.

Hi Gary, and hope that you are keeping well. 👍 I suppose Cherie Blair could argue that her only tie to Pat Phoenix is that she married her father and became her stepmother albiet only for a few days, but the other Booths who share the same headstone are presumably her blood relatives so you'd have expected the headstone to have at least been given a clean for their memory at some point but then again I suppose we don't know the family dynamics. I suppose it's just human nature to forget those who help us along the way in life but it's still sad all the same.

@@MrHsHotPot she's buried on the side her name is on, and the booths are relations of Tony Blair's wife

@@MrHsHotPot also she wouldn't be buried on the side the main names are on as there are two people resting there so the grave is classed as full, so they would have buried her on the other side

Hi Ray, and thanks for commenting. 👍 The last person to be interred in the Booth grave according to the dates on the headstone was 'Mary Vera Booth' in 1987 a year after Pat Phoenix's death. Unless Mary Vera Booth's wishes were to always be buried in this particular space and the grave was originally dug to a depth to only hold two people then yes Pat Phoenix will have had to have been buried in a 'new' grave. However if this is the case then it throws up the question of should she have her own headstone especially given that she was a huge televison star and a household name at the time of her passing rather than having her name inscribed onto the back of someone else's headstone?
