People get frustrated from this anime just because it’s not fantasy story where the characters win no matter what. But we love this anime because it’s reality.

This movie breaks the stereotypical "and they lived happily ever after" which is so refreshing and real.

I was with a long distance relationship around 2009 (met her in Ragnarok Online) when I stumbled upon this movie. We never really met (except in game). We stopped talking around 2010, and then got back in 2011 shortly. After that, no more contact. I still think of her from time to time and This movie always remind me of her. Watched it like 5 times already since then. I missed her and even though I have no way of keeping up with her (that time were using Friendster) and we didn't have time to connect at facebook, I still remember her face. Hope she's doing well.

It's one of the best animes I've watched and one of Makoto Shinkai's best works along with "Garden of words". I wish these two movies would get more recognition and talked about more the same way "your name" and his other newer works get talked about but by no means am I saying that the new movies are not as good, it's just that 5 centimeters per second and garden of words holds a special place in my heart. Also, I love the music of 5 centimeters per second and the ending of the movie just did it for me.

I've also watched this masterpiece when i was younger, around the same and as the mcs on the second chapter. Back then, i was more interested in the art style, animation, and mostly the music. I didn't understand yet, the implications of the story, especially on the third and final chapter. Now, I'm an adult, with more experience and more maturity. I now realize how tragic this classic is because of you. I've never forgotten this movie. Thank you so much for uploading this video. Every time I share this with people, they don't seem to find it interesting. Probably because it wasn't mainstream then. I hope a lot of people see it and watch it. Great video essay. ❤

I interpreted the final scene as Takaki seeing the splitting image of one of his first memories with Akari which was enough to satisfy him in just being able to see her again. Also, I feel especially bad for Kannae in her scenes.

Not only am I just now realizing the movie was brilliant, I also see this video is, great work. When I watched this movie a week or two ago with my siblings we kinda ended up just goofing around, and missed a lot of the important moments and thus the deeper meaning (It was fun so I don't regret it). But nevertheless by the end of the movie, that frustrating end really took me by surprise and I've been thinking back to it multiple times a day, fearing that I'd make the same mistake as Takaki does. I do suffer the same problem of always being stuck in the past and never clearly seeing the future after it all, and I think that's where this movie does an excellent job at showing the consequences of what that can do. Anyways I realize that this whole thing doesn't matter to anyone but me and those around me, however I want to thank you for articulating the message so well that I genuinely enjoyed watching this video and have something new to think about. Thanks!

this movie is literally haunting me for weeks since I saw it last December I had a friend at school when I was 15.there was no such thing as a romantic relation between us I never undestood my feelings but I felt at ease and happier around her.after finishing high school we kept contact for almost 2 more years by phonecalls, then the calls became distant and slowly stopped , I never know what she was to me romantic or not but 9 years later I still wish to be back on that old classroom spending classes and hours with her This movie was like a PTSD moment for me,I've only watched it one time but every moments felt like a fading distant memory

I’ve never seen the movie but from this video I can tell that the lesson it’s trying to teach relates to my live so well. I’m soon to be married and until recently I had still in the back of my mind doubts about a missed connection in college. I recently found out she got married a few months ago and that gave me what I needed to move on to my own marriage. Very relatable. Wish I found this movie sooner
