😯THE FLOOD AT PEACE RIVER RV RESORT /🚛 HDT / RV Travel Day / RV Life / RV Camping / Florida

A completely custom RV semi-trailer that we designed and asked SpaceCraft to build took 7 months to bring it to fruition.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Traveling from Orlando RV Resort to Peace River Thousand Trails is a short drive but we had concerns about the park since we knew many people had their reservations cancelled due to the floods from Hurricane Ian. We stop at Chesters Chicken after someone was nice enough to let us cross 3 lanes of traffic. Sondra needs to notify me sooner of a change of direction! We get run down by an nice person who has many questions about the HDT and Smart car.
1 minute mark:
Leave Orlando RV Resort and head out onto the wide open roads...after a U-turn, of course.
6 minute mark:
A greeting by the scenic and peaceful Peace River and we survey the flood recovery efforts by the park. The RV resort looks amazing and they have done a great job with the clean up. The park is empty and only at 50% full since they haven't yet opened all the affected sites.
9 minute mark:
We check out the RV resort and go by the pool, have a sundae on Sunday, watch the Mardi Gras Parade pass by, Sondra gathers candy and we see how high the flood waters rose. It's unbelievable how far into the campground it got.
12 minute mark:
We run some errands in Lakeland, Florida and celebrate my birthday! We have a really good meal at Bonefish Grill and go see a movie. It feels like a private viewing for my birthday because the theatre was empty.
15 minute mark:
Go shopping at Walmart and have fun with some spicy names, get more Amazon packages at the Eckerds drug store, find a "secret" room in a farmers market that is really "cool" and bike around the campground some more.
19 minute mark:
New bike racks and taking a bike ride to Pioneer Park to see the wildlife refuge is informative and disappointing since we find out it's closed indefinitely. Sondra needs her wildlife "fix" so we head to the river and try to find alligators near the RV resort.
25 minute mark:
Some drone footage and flying down the river is pretty cool as we spot several alligators near the shore. Two are just hanging out but one is actually feeding on an animal. We heard a lot of crunching! yuck! The river is so peaceful in the afternoon and we really enjoy the area.
30 minute mark:
We head over to the Florida Flywheelers and Antique Show for the day. Wow! It was very cool and we'll be back to boondock next time at the show! Lots of tractors, flywheels in action, golf carts all over the place and more stuff to buy than you can shake a stick at as it reminded us of Quartzsite and a Renaissance Festival that meets on the farm.
35 minute mark:
We load the Smart car onto our truck, Voyager and get ready to head on to our next stop which is in Eustis, Florida.
RV Living at it's best.

    Thanks Shane, we really, really appreciate that sentiment. This is a channel that was started to give back to the RV community so that others may benefit from our experience. Also, we want to show people that you can still travel in a Big Rig and see the country. We also do it so our family can follow along on our journey. We did not expect our "family" to grow with our growing list of viewers so that is a cool benefit for sure.

    Good morning over in the UK, Garry. Thanks for finding us. I've done some research on campervans and campgrounds in Europe since we wanted to spend several months over there (before covid). We still want to but I realized why virtually all the caravan's over there are 7m or less. I'd have to rent the entire campground for Voyager and Orion! 😯🤔🤣Thanks for the comment. Glad you're along on the journey. 😁

    OK Nelson, your basement video is coming in two weeks! The Smart car weighs 2K lbs and the nylon winch rope is rated at 10K lbs. The winch is doing all the work. Also, each ramp is rated at 2K lbs. Thanks for the comments 🙂.

    Just love your rig, must be a dream to live in. Have a question about thousand trails if you have it. Do you have trouble getting reservations? I’m wanting to purchase one but I hear it’s tough to get in a lot of places.

    Great question, Nathan. Thousand Trails is a "either you love it or hate it" type of campground membership. It works for us and we're glad we purchased our membership almost 9 years ago. We know that we can't fit in all of the parks, we figure about 50% of them. We detail it more in this video but we generally, don't have any issues getting into parks. Of course, we don't usually go in the high season either. kzread.info/dash/bejne/goplvKhvetDIf6w.html

    Beautiful Rig! How long is your truck from the cow catcher to the brake lights, overall rig length, and your pin weight? I am considering an HDT to pull a 21000 lbs fifth wheel and possibly haul a vehicle. Do you feel the tandems are required for your pin weight? Beautiful area and great camera work!

  • @bigtruckbigtravels

    @bigtruckbigtravels

    Hey Larry, thanks for the question. We are 73 feet long overall. The truck is 33 feet by itself. Our pin weight is 13K lbs. We're a little hefty. We definitely need the tandems. When we add the Smart on the back of the truck it would put us over on a single axle. Glad you're along on the journey and appreciate your comments and watching the channel. 😊

    What is the biggest headache of operating a big rv setups

  • @bigtruckbigtravels

    @bigtruckbigtravels

    Hey Shane, probably the biggest headache is planning the trip to insure we fit and the route is safe for us; however, I enjoy the planning process and the challenge to find cool places to visit. So, it's not really a headache but it is a constant process. When we travel in our Class C, there is no real planning since I know we can fit and travel ANYWHERE.

    Curious... there's lots of railroad crossings that are "highly mounded", steep grades on each side. The sides of Orion look pretty low-to-the-ground. How do you handle railroad crossings? Is there a trick to ensuring you don't drive a road the ends up with one of these crossings? Seems like bottoming-out could be a concern.

  • @bigtruckbigtravels

    @bigtruckbigtravels

    Жыл бұрын

    Great question, William. We have 15 inches ground clearance and we primarily stay on STAA roads which helps to insure there are no obstacles. When we take other roads, I'll research the route. Usually the "humpy" RR crossings are on secondary roads.
