The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
Ойындар
A playthrough of Taito's 1991 license-based platformer for the NES, The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy.
Though they had a few misses, Taito's NES output was generally excellent. Their games often boasted some of the best graphics and sound on the system, the gameplay was usually rock solid, and much like Capcom, Konami, or Sunsoft, they didn't lower their standards a bit when they were handling someone else's IP. Their Hanna Barbera titles all scream quality, and though they're not particularly popular, they're arguably on par with Capcom's Disney titles.
The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy was the first of these games. It came out during the 1991 holiday season, and it met with a warm critical reception, even receiving a full-blown feature in Nintendo Power.
It's better known these days as "7 Grand Dad."
Sigh. The internet.
The game is a simple platformer that has you playing as Fred, the world's favorite prehistoric drunk, day laborer, and buffoon. An evil scientist from the 30th century has not only stolen the Flintstones' and Rubbles' pets, but has also destroyed Gazoo's time machine to prevent any heroic rescue attempts.
Gazoo says that he can fix the time machine, but he'll need Fred to collect the scattered parts. Once that's all set, Fred will be able warp to the thirtieth century in order to throw down with Dr. Butler and save his slobbery purple pal.
Fortunately, Fred is unexpectedly adept at platforming. He can dangle from and climb up ledges, collect subweapons, and power up his club for a super smash. He can fly, dive, hop around on a dino kangaroo, and even take a break to win extra lives playing basketball. Quite multitalented, he is.
The controls are tight and Fred moves with a nice sense of weight (though you have to watch out when he skids to a stop, especially on ice!), and the level layouts are thoughtfully designed. They clearly guide you while giving you just enough freedom to explore a bit, and they're full of tricky spots that can easily wipe you out if you're trying to rush through. It's a cartoon game, but it is challenging. The game is fair, though. It doesn't blitz you with unavoidable hits, but some of those bosses are merciless until you've had a bit of practice and learned their patterns.
The graphics are all true to the look of the TV show with bold lines and super vivid colors, and all of the individual details, from the animation to the enemy designs to the background objects, work together to stay true to the spirit of the show. It's a very good looking NES game and its refreshingly respectful of its source material.
The music is excellent, too. In addition to the fun rendition of the show's theme, there's a whole slew of obnoxiously catchy original tunes to keep you humming for days after.
Especially that ice stage theme! It reminds me so much of the music from Little Nemo and Chip n Dale. I love it.
If you haven't played it but you like a good platformer, this is one damned fine game. Go for it!

I'm honestly convinced someone went back in time and made sure there was exactly enough space for Joel to say "GRAND DAD" before the Flintstones theme kicked in.

I got this game 30 years ago when I was a kid. The night before I drew a picture of Fred and wrote something like ”Good morning, let’s go get the game”. I put it next to my bed so I could see it in the morning when I woke up. Getting games back then was so exiting. I can’t believe I still remember all this. It was my favourite nes game. Oh the memories…
I found this game to be incredibly scary as a kid, but couldn't stop playing it. Some of the music can be extremely haunting. Still get major chills and goosebumps to this day when I listen to it.

Long live the Flintstones, definetly
That intro story gave me nightmares as a kid :
Being able to hang on edges was such an advanced thing back then. Not even Super Metroid had that. We only saw that in Metroid Fusion. Then came Prince of Persia and Blackthorne.
@Ruudos
3 жыл бұрын
Prince of Persia was first released in 1989.
This is the first game I could remember that had the ability to hang on a ledge and pull yourself up. Blew me away at the time because every game I'd ever played till then had it where if you missed landing feet square on a platform, it was over.
I really love the crossover between them and the Jetsons.
So if there is a copyright of the Jetsons in the title screen, does that mean they actually appear in this game at some point?
Videos like this are GREAT! But.. they lack the fun of discovery. When you play a game like this for the first time you're learning what is possible. These are great time capsules... but they miss the sense of adventure in playing for the first time.

One of the best nes games! Love it
I used to have this cartridge back in the 90's, but I still can't find it. I will find it one day. The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy is based on the animated cartoon TV series The Flintstones. Taito would later release another Flintstones game for the NES titled The Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak 3 years later, in 1994.
Тая игра няма да я забравя още като дете я цъках адски много дори и сега я имам на лаптопа си❗️❗️❗️❤❤❤ обичам Флинстон 😊😊❤️❤️❤️
Haven’t seen this game in 30+ yrs! I beat it twice as a kid, and lemme tell you, this game was very difficult. One of the hardest platforming games out there . Don’t really know how I was able to clear this twice.
Damn, Fred really came for that dude's ankles.
I rented this game from Blockbuster back in the day lot of fun.
This game is very good for a NES game. The sprite work is good, the music is nice. And gameplay is decent

I played this game around 7 years old. 1997. I think I stopped playing around 1999 when I got my Playstation. I was good at video games and this brings back memories being one of my first but I never could get past the more advanced stuff like that boat ride from hell. I could only pass like 3 stages of the board on my own....I enjoyed the basketball mini game in this. I think I remember scorring 22 pts like you before it ended.
Finally my search is finished. My 2 decade ago fav game
My sister and I played the Dino poop outta this!! Plus that intro music when they swooped on them always kinda of freaked me out in a good way! Lol
Honestly, I thought this game was some kind of weird dream my brain made up as a kid, but I'm happy to learn it wasn't! I never made it past the first level because of how difficult this game was, so it's nice getting to finally see the rest of the game!
This is literally just 7 Grand Dad but with Fred Flintstone's face over Grand dad's
A friend of mine has this and it looks even better than I recalled.
Getting Dr. Wily flashbacks from this final boss
I love this music i playd this game very day after school

I never finished this game in my childhood
Good game, very enjoyable and not too hard for the most part. I had the most trouble with the autoscrolling parts usually, but even those aren't that bad overall. Some of Taito's Japanese exclusives are pretty good as well - Minelvaton Saga or Don Doko Don 1 & 2 come to mind. Guess they didn't publish or develop that many NES games, but their area of expertise are arcades anyway.
