The old fights weren't perfect but they were better all they really had to do was add more combat to them instead of them running most of the fight i mean a speedsters punch can send someone flying they should of added that to their fights and when they were running through the city turning every corner they should have collided with each other make a big explosion of power

I think I'm just going to start pretending while S5 was still awful but S7-8 don't exist, and I'll think this last one if there's any kind of decent ending given S8's ending basically ruined a huge opportunity to some super shredder+meditation bs.

You're exactly right. Not only was the camera work amazing, but the story behind those fights as well. The first ever Flash vs Reverse Flash fight is one of my favorites. The camera work was well done, and had that iconic slowmo shot of Barry throwing a punch and RF dodging it with the moonlight in the background. The fights now aren't anywhere as good.

Indeed, I remember the first time Flash used a supersonic punch on Girder, that was badass. Then later on Grodd... I also really hope that they do a good job with the new Captain Boomerang, Owen Mercer. His father, Digger Harkness, was a real threat in The Flash/Arrow crossover, and his 'rangs were filmed in a cool way. I'm glad they also brought back the Rainbow Raider, I just love Roy Bivolo's getup and haircut and cool shades and red eyes, dude just looks cool in a nerdy way, not sure how to explain it in English... Hey that's cool, I just realized that the actor for Roy, _Paul Anthony_ , played one of the 2 main characters in a 2005 movie called "Eighteen" in which his co-star on the cover and all was played by _Brendan Fletcher_ , aka the Arrow season 8 villain *"The Star-City Slayer", Stanley Dover* (that I didn't even recognize in *Superman & Lois* season 1 as Thaddeus Killgrave) Anyway I'm kinda bummed they're not bringing back the original actor for Murmur, but the female version looks very comic accurate costume-wise, let's hope they don't screw up her personality.

The lightning CGI later on is so good, I can do that at home in Blender on a similar level.

I miss the the time where the cw flash were not afraid to get a bit dark like zoom vs flash, I was actually terrified of him and how ruthless he was, and it was back then when the cw actually tried with speedster fights and actually puts effort into it

The fact that this series is still going truly amazes me.

@@joaocorreiamedia Ngl the older ones really seemed like they were fleshing out the charcters and trying to make a fun and sorta realistic story about this man that gained super speed battling the man that killed his mom that was from the future we didn't know the Reverse Flash's backstory and they just told a simple story with a little bit of setup but now it feels that little moments lead to a new villan or plot but now when Thawne dies even tho from set photos he's coming back (again) but what I mean is that there has not been a good villan since season 6 and there hasn't been a season I actually wanted to watch since season 3 but now I only watched armagedon of flash season 8 and the last three episodes and this season I have only watched episode 9, 10, and 11

Everyone talks about camera and budget and I find those objectively legitimate issues as well, but to me the most notable issue with post-S4 Flash is lack of ambition. A lot of the pre-S5 Flash CGI isn't much better than post-S4 CGI but there was clearly a creative vision behind it. Grodd VS Barry in Gorilla City for example looks like a PS2 cutscene but it gives us EXACTLY what it promised. 2 iconic DC characters fighting 'realistically' in an iconic DC location with a strong narrative purpose behind it. Modern Flash has no vision. Standing around, cheesey one liners, underwhelming fights that are usually either lightning strikes or unimaginative out of nowhere gimmicks (like the lightsaber fight), that's the formula now every time. They are content with boring now, they don't care enough to make something cooler, they have no vision. Old Flash knew it didn't have the budget to make their ideas look realistic but they embraced it, they made it and it looked like PS2 cutscenes but it didn't matter because THEY MADE IT, WE GOT IT, it's not 4K but we got it, cool scenes. None of that now, none.

I like how Barry is punched so hard in the back that you hear bones crack, and the reaction from Cisco and Caitlin is as if they just lost a game of Smash Bros. Anyhow, the fights degraded horribly.

Barry vs reverse flash: Emotional fight that was well built up and incorporated speed into it nicely Barry vs zoom: Rawest fight in the show, really felt like barry was going to die Barry vs savitar: Cleanest fight ever, so satisfying watching savitar run in and out of the speed force and throw barry around Every fight afterwards: *U N L I M I T E D P O W E R*

Thats an excellent point. Even flash vs arrow had more hand to hand combat. He would be moving fast around him but still hitting him and dodging his swings and punches. With the last fight of the four speedsters vs thawne it should have been more like the fight from eternals with Makkari and Ikaris

@@Shockkings0714 And that works fine in a media like comics, but in a live action show the more realistic suits just fit the medium better. The old suits were still clearly recognizable as the flash/reverse flash suits, but also felt grounded in the real world.

God damn those suits are great. Went from a little padding to buff up the actors to grabbing a Flash costume from the local Halloween shop on the way to work. Also, everyone getting older and being less and less fit for those types of body suits.

They made the lightning look like confetti and spaghetti

I really miss fights like how they were before, I remember The Reverse Flash fought Flash, Arrow and Firestorm. must have been the most exciting thing ever.

This is so accurate. All the speedsters like to do nowadays is run around their opponents and throw lightning at them as if it’s their only effective attack to execute, and it’s so annoying.

Season 1 and 2 they were super motivated. Actors were having fun, the writers were enjoying themselves. Then the show just went on and on and on. Directors lost motivation, actors stopped caring, writers didn't care. so here we are. for sure the Execs stopped caring, reasoned that the show would be watched either way

Of course this doesn't stop the early seasons from having bad writing as well like how every single villain of the week manages to hide from the fucking speedster in less than a minute or Barry will never actually use his super speed in hand-to-hand combat.

They’re called speedsters for a reason. Not lightning gods like Raiden from MK.

After so many seasons, savitar still feels like he’s the fastest speedster we’ve seen in the show, they haven’t managed to capture how fast barry or anyone else really is.

The Arrowverse got so big thanks to the studio’s clever strats to make such a low budget so enjoyable. Now it truly feels like it’s budget.

The degradation of the suits was a deliberate decision, because if they didn't have money for new and better suits they would have kept the old ones. I think they wanted to innovate for something better but it didn't work out

I did like the change. I hated the darker red it looks awful some of the things from the old suit should of been kept but overhaul I much prefer the newer suits the colour is everything and that's what needed changing the most really stands out more

Speedster fights back then: Lets see who is faster Barry! Speedster fights now: Friggin lightsabers and emperor palpatine.

Similar issues happened with arrow started with him being a meaner version of Batman taking down groups of bad guys without any help to no longer killing and needing help to fight 1 henchman.

Zoom was ruthless in season 2!

I hate how they can just shoot the lightning out of their fingers so easily, it was better when Barry had to charge it up and actually “throw” the lightning.

I think the superhero genre has had an impact on the CGI companies. Because there are so many super movies being made they are being torn down and exhausted. 10 years ago there wasn’t very many Marvel movies during phase 2 and 3 that required extensive CGI, that’s probably why it looked so good in those movies and in Transformers as well.

Need a villian as brutal as zoom to come for the last season

@@tobsonasanya4765 Wow, there was a 5 second scene of Deathstorm clapping and burning some people and then the camera changes focus. Much more brutal than Zoom crushing The Flash's spine and dragging him across town like he was nothing.

Savitar dragging Barry through the wormholes was the pinnacle of villains beating Barry. For the first time, you no longer feel like Barry has a chance to maybe run away or get some upper hand. Yeah, when Thawne or Zoom are beating his ass it’s hard to watch, but at least you have some idea of how fast they are. But when we first saw Savitar run, we had NO idea how Barry could ever outspeed him

i think theres more lightning throwing here than in star wars, and there lightning throwing is in fact lore accurate

In season 7 of Flash when Reverse Flash and Flash vs Godspeed, for a sec I was thinking “Am I watching the right show, because this looks like star wars…”

I miss the first three seasons. That was peak Flash. I am praying season 9 not only has just as good fight scenes but just as good writing as those seasons.

Savitar absolutely decimating Barry was absolutely insane when I first saw it, and even now I can't help but admit I find it really cool- even if now I can see the CGI wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Fights like that don't exist anymore.

The whole Savitar plot line was what lost me. Kind of felt like they were just redoing Zoom, who in-turn already felt lack luster but was compelling enough with the Multiverse aspect being explored further. But Savitar just felt lame. His suit always looked like rubber during the live action scenes and then looked so bad in the CGI that I just lost all interest

No not everyone is a speedster and yes Iris is still hated

We went from really cool fight scenes to *Somehow Palpatine returned*

My theory as to why newer seasons have such bad fights is that since the Arrowverse drifted away from Arrow's more "sulky" and "dark" atmosphere, they weren't able to mask effects under darkness as much as before, so the bad parts are much more obvious

I actually decided to do some research and found out the "reason" of the Flash's sudden decay on season 7; they blamed it to the pandemic; in my opinion, they were the ones who decided to keep shooting scenes on 2020 instead of actually taking advantage of that time to improve scripts and write better stories for future seasons

They also seem to have gone from wearing super hero costumes to footie pajamas. Glad I dropped this after they introduced like the 3rd guy that was faster than the fastest man alive.

Bad guy: I HAVE A GUN! Flash: don’t even try it Bad guy: *does it* Flash: *goes into flashtime and spends 90% of it trying to process what’s happening*

Throwing lightning was cool at first, but then it just got overused. Guess they just wanted his fights to be more flashy rather than logical.

Pandemic restrictions. But that begs the question why we didn't see more CGI Flash models like in season 1/2. CgI models don't have to worry about getting touched. Or why Superman and Lois could do more interesting action scenes despite a character who can just shoot lasers all the time.

That was legit one of the things that hooked me onto the show, how well they (at first) portrayed people with super speed having to engage in physical combat. Now, there’s practically nothing, _Power Rangers_ makes the new fights look even more ridiculous than they already do.

If the early Flash Seasons were replaced by the last seasons this show wouldn't have lasted until S4 *Thanks to Eric Wallace* it was its early seasons Repo that made it this this

I won't lie, I really prefer when they fought like before, especially at 0:16 .Except Negative Part 2, they were using their abilities to the fullest. As of Godspeed, I was kinda expecting this as his comic's counterpart did the same with the Speed Scout.

yeah true. Like come on, they hyped the fight and then it was just a lightsaber duel. Now the faster speedster can just do one punch and beats the other guy with some force lightning. That was the good thing in Negative Part 2, where Barry and Thawne were literally equals and both of them had a good chance to win.

Like...for a set of characters whose entire gimmick is moving really really fast, particularly with Godspeed, there's an extreme lack of urgency in the fights. Like, go watch the Versus Zoom fight again, and THATS what I envision when I think "speedster fight"

@@GenericName0042 agreed. Seasons 1-3 are my favorites because I became obsessed with speedster fights after season 1. That's the main reason I was so bored with seasons 4-5 and the latter half of season 6. Then I got disappointed during the final battle of Season 7 as it was basically just two sith Lords fighting a more powerful sith.

You should've shown the fight between Thawne and future Flash the night his mom died. By far the most interesting, realistic, and visually pleasing fight in the entire show. The fact that it's completely CG is astounding

They really went from Speedsters doing super speed to just force lightning in every scene possible.

It feels like the primary way to fight now is to have characters shoot lightning at each other. Probably because it's cheaper and easier to shoot and edit. Very uninspiring though

When Savitar tosses him across the park and he starts bouncing while Savitar runs in the background, and then comes back to swoop in and grab him again before he has a chance to slow down or regain his footing is the most savage part. It's such a flex of his speed.

The first time barry faced zoom it was like watching a horror film, man just stood no chance against him and Zoom went all out breaking his spine and everything

One thing that changes how fights are portrait is the actors request for having their faces in camera. In the old fights and action scenes, you barely saw the actors faces since it is not need it for us the audience to see the face of Flash when he is running but for the actor (not the character) they want their faces in the shot because that's what actors want.

“There’s no where to run” (Villain runs away) “….”

There's a lot of ways you can use super speed, even for long range attacks, but I guess they could only afford one effect with no choreography. If you wanted to amp it up for later seasons and limit it to simple VFX stuff, You can have him punch so fast that you displace air for a long range air punch, throw tiny air molecules so fast they become plasma bullets, vibrate to cause earthquakes, vibrate to cause sound waves, use a vibrating punch to cause a massive amount of friction to set an enemy on fire. You can have him throw things and such, like dust thrown so fast it wraps an entire area like a smokescreen, maybe a bouncy ball or some shit for funnies, or just literally steal from the comics with tornado hand shit, IDK. The writing doesn't really hold up the conflicts or make it deep enough to care without some variation.

You don't need long range attacks when you can punch 1,000 times per second and go the other side of the planet in another second before the opponent can even react. Speedster vs most normal people fights shouldn't even be a fight. They should be at the crime scene one second then suddenly find themselves in jail the next and not even know what happened.

@@petelee2477 You can still have high profile fights without the speedster dominating if you pit them against someone who can fight at half their speed, or take them by surprise. The other issue with the show is that the Flash always has to get his ass kicked and often does NOT in situations where it doesn't make sense.

@@bloodyidit4506 used to be that the Flash would get his ass kicked and then get some motivation from his team and try again, which was kinda cheesy. But it's far better than the shit they do now. Flash gets his ass kicked by regular humans and then Cecile and Allegra come in to save the day. If that doesn't work, his human wife comes in to shoot the villain with a stun gun.

Even though S1-S4 animation wasn’t the best, it was extremely satisfying to see how well it worked with fast paced animation and it was SOMETHING, after S5 it felt like the fights got EXTREMELY lazy, instead of fighting like DBZ characters they started fighting like some damn sith lords
