the reason Barry had some trouble fighting The Rival in flashpoint was because he was literally forgetting everything he learned about how to use his powers from the original timeline the more he used them. If I recall he was also slowly losing them as this timeline continued to overwrite his old one as he wasn't hit by lightning (yet) in this timeline.

Thawne *COULD ALSO BE LOSING HIS MEMORIES*, but just decided not to tell him so he had an excuse to kill Barry's mom.

I think the Flashpoint Paradox story line might have worked better as a big crossover event

it needed to be its own season. Imagine the first few episodes of Barry just being Barry, with Wally fighting the Rival. Lenard as Citizan Cold / Mayor of Central City. By say, episode 5 introduce the amnesia stuff. The mid season finale, Barry begging Eobard to restore the time line. Then the last episodes would be the Savitar stuff. Because it would of been 8 weeks for us AND Barry, we'd feel the whiplash of the sudden changes with Barry too.

If you wanted a more comic accurate retelling, probably, but it’s good for what it is…what’s coming is GREAT, he’s no Zoom, but he’s still cool

Yeah, it sucks it only lasted 1 episode. That's kind of the problem with TV shows these days, they often make a big deal of consequences, but then when the consequences are seen they are very minimal because the writers didn't want to focus on them, it's annoying. The way they constructed this Flashpoint episode was really bad.

I agree that the Flashpoint timeline could/should have been worse (to further motivate undoing it), but since Flashpoint wasn't going to last forever the purpose of this episode was really just to set up having to deal with the post-Flashpoint fallout (so the details of Flashpoint aren't that important).

I think it would have been so awesome if Flashpoint was a 3 or 4 episode crossover, like this felt so rushed, everything was solved in 40 minutes, i don't know, it was very disappointing

Remember we only have Flash, Green Arrow and new to the club, Supergirl in the Arrowverse. Also, Martian Manhunter. No other big DC characters to use in Flashpoint, like they did in the comics.

They had a fair amount of characters; and Legends were already in production by that point, even if they were still a few months away from premiering. Most of those players were already established characters from other shows, who could have been involved in some capacity. It could have even serve to help setup Legends. If nothing else, given the nature of the original Flashpoint story, even conceding that it could only ever be a lose adaptation of the story idea; if they couldn't do it properly by making it a more inclusive crossover event, then they shouldn't have done it until they could do it proper justice.

I felt a little bad going into this reaction, seeing how high your expectations were, knowing how it played out. It was the same feeling for me; though more so having read the original comic story, than the animated movie. Obviously I knew they couldn't do that verbatim, I wasn't expecting them to, but they could have done better doing their own take on it. Like you said, the stakes weren't there. Barry's motivation for going back at the end of season 2 wasn't all that justified; not nearly as much as when he went back in season 1 when the story built to it more naturally. And they just didn't make Flashpoint dystopian enough to warrant Barry being willing to lose his mom again. It also glosses over the fact that it wasn't just the act of saving his mom that caused Flashpoint in the original story; it was that he drew the entire speed force into himself to do it, which caused unforeseen ripples throughout time and space.

Tom Cavanaugh does a good job but with Matt Lescher there is a certain rawness to his performance as Thawne.

I love them both but I don't understand why they keep insisting on having tom as thawne it makes no sense I guess tom costs less

CW fucked it, they should've used flashpoint to make a huge crossover, they lacked vision

They did have, I think, a better opportunity to go about this. At the end of season 2, instead of Barry creating a time remnant, Barry pours on the speed alone and collapses the rupture, but the closure creates a shockwave rippling through time and space; and when the dust settles, Team Flash is there, protected in the eye of the proverbial storm, but the Flash himself has vanished. When the next season picks up, Team Flash finds themselves in some version of Flashpoint; the world is upside-down and Team Flash are the only ones who remember the way things were and they have to find Barry and restore his powers to get their world back. And as part of that, it should have been a crossover event. It might have been a logistical nightmare, but Flashpoint, however you're going to tell it, can't just be restricted to the Flash's core characters. You have to be able to show it affecting all these other characters and have huge consequences; that's the whole point. They shouldn't have tackled it until they were in a position to do it right.

Even though the comic and animated movie shows it could be worse, Barry apparently can't live with things being this way because of him. He chose to do this on an impulse and the point of "Flashpoint" was to teach him a lesson about how despite his powers, he can't control everything around him.

I think that they could've made this 2 episodes and while i don't think a world ending event would've fit this show and story, I think the city being under threat and, moreso, exploring the characters being changed that Barry knows, I think could've played better, for me, for this story.

Iris barely remembering Barry bothered me. According to season 1, they were not just classmates but best friends long before Nora's death.

Oh man i remember when this ep came out,i was so excited thought its gonna be atleast half a season(or until the mid season finale),but left so fucking disappointed that one of the best flash storys ended in one fucking episode,they had so many possibilities to change the characters into something unexpected, so much potential but nope,oh well unfortunate but it is what it is.

Sage Leaf i mean the way they used flashpoint,it definitely needed to be more than one episode,especially since they use it as an excuse to everything that doesn't make any sense happens,at the very least should've been a couple episodes so that we could've actually felt the weight of what barry did and the consequences that followed,but hey thats just my opinion.

Barry would have loose his memories and eventually his speed. And Wally wasn’t healing so he could’ve died or loose his speed also.

Good Reaction... Sorry, but Flashpoint is a disappointment. They should have alluded to more stuff happening in the world, a few video scenes and news reports would have been easy enough to do... Earth 2 was more chaotic than this. Flashpoint should have continued for several episodes and then been resolved.
