For the rear since it’s tapered I think you should make some low profile fenders to match the general shape/idea of the front fenders. The front fenders stay straight while the hood tapers to the front. Do the same/opposite to the rear. I think it would look sweet

Hey Paul, that rear bumper looks nice and I get the extension to protect your bed/body. I think it would look more complete it you wrapped the ends around the body a bit... Like add a triangular section right next to the ends. Protects the body even more, and can be used as a step to get in/on the bed from the side. Also would match the rock sliders on the sides. I usually don't like "2x4" bumpers but this looks nice! Oh yeah and Merry Christmas to the whole family!

The FJ45 brings memories of our years working in Africa. Particularly in Botswana in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. The FJ’s were the work horse of government, medical, farmers, and fun off road safari. It has the fuel consumption on the fender- 4.5 kilometers per liter. Utah looks more like Southern Africa than northeast Pennsylvania. The kind of hills where Matt is looks like Lesotho.Botswana has the desert sands to navigate. We worked there with a community development NGO. Keep the fun KZreads coming!

I know you will have the FJ45 finished in time Paul. Who else would/could pull Matt out "WHEN" he gets stuck? Love the rear bumper. Cutout's for the lights look great, and the overhang each side to protect the bodywork is genius forward thinking. It almost looks like it was made for that truck :) :) :)

I would use the overhang on your rear bumper and tie some bar work from there across the rear fenders to your sliders. You are going to lean that thing up against something, might as well give the fenders some rigidity. Love everything you have done, will be the baddest fj45 in the land.

Simple and functional. Plus it matches the look and feel of these old rigs. Nothing worse than a Classic FJ, Jeep or Pickup with a gigantic Iron Cross style bumper. I need to get to work on my own. To install my receiver I cut out the rear most cross member (Not an FJ) and replaced it with a 2X3 square tube with the receiver and safety chain loops welded on. I then gusseted the ends so it was more like a weight distribution hitch but welded on. So now the receiver is tucked up nicely for a better departure angle but I need a bumper to complete the back end.

You left out one step on your bolt extraction that makes all the difference. Space the nut you weld about a washer thickness off the flat surface the bolt is broke off in. Weld on your nut. As soon as you finish welding, take the ball end of a ballpeen hammer and hit the center of the nut some. Decently hard. Allow it to start cooling on its on, no coolant or penetrating oil. Start taking the nut each direction very softly with a wrench just like you did. When you back it out using the hammer method,.look at the edge of the threads. They will be rolled from where you drove it down with the hammer. The threads are the first to get to the highest temperature and the hammer blows make the threads give up by rolling their edges over. The hammer strikes make this method way more effective. I really like your channel.

A little trick you might already know when trying to find center like your bumper, take the measurement in inches and change it to feet and inches lets just say like it 67 5/8" or 5' 7 5/8" long and we need to find center, so lay your tape out 1/2 of 5' is 30 hold your marker there then take 1/2 of 7"which is 3 1/2 move your marker then take 1/2 of 5/8 which is 5/16 so move your marker 5/16 more and thats center it really simple no math

That reference port on the regulator is also for vaccum. That way you maintain a set pressure across the fuel injector. You might have your fuel pressure set at 60 psi. If the intake manifold is 0 PSI (WOT) then you have 60 psi across the injector. If the intake manifold is full vacuum (idle) then you have the pressure the fuel pressure regulator is set at PLUS the vacuum in the manifold across the fuel injector. More fuel will flow for the same injector pulse width unless you hook the reference line of the regulator to the intake manifold to compensate for the vacuum. This can make it harder to tune.

It looks good!!! Should have put the receiver all the way in so the hole for the pin is on the back side. I did mine like that and then you dont need to wrap the receiver tubing because the 2x4 tubing is the wrap. But its super nice that it doesnt stick out at all.

#1 You need to strategically eyecrometer a place on your shop wall to showcase your amazing elk antlers that are up on the mezzanine! #2. Check the measurement from each side rear 1/4 panel to the end of the new bumper. It may be that the camcrometer is making it look a little wonky but you may have to use the equalizer to even each side up! #3. Merry Christmas, stay safe, healthy and have a FABulous holiday season!

There are a few KZread channels that I press 👍 before I view them. I can do that because I know I’m going to enjoy either the content, humor or personality. You are one of those.

I’m sure you already have some info out there on the interwebs, but I was wondering about your tools, what brands do you use or have the best success with and most recently, your exhaust building showed me how much your tube bender does, I’d love a tour of the shop with names of the tools and all that. Thanks for all the hard work you do and making YT a fun place to wander about getting knowledge and ideas. Merry Christmas to you and your family and may y’all be blessed for many years to come!

Nice work. I think I might have raised the bed one inch for the gas tank problem. Yes, I know that would mean a 1" strip needs to be added to the bed sides bottom to meet up with the rock sliders. But it also means more ground clearance for the body in the back and more ground clearance on the tank, and more diff clearance on the tank. The inner fenders could be 1" shorter too. It also may mean that there didn't need to be a tail light notch in the bumper.
