The Fixing it Forward Odyssey Blew Up! (Episode 8)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On the same day Jennifer picked up her new Odyssey, the engine seized up on the highway. This is my worst nightmare. After all that work and effort, the exact thing I didn’t want to happen, happened.
So what do you do in this situation? Fix it, which is exactly what I do in this episode. I replace the engine in the 2005 Honda Odyssey as well as fix up a few other minor issues and I get Jennifer back on the road ASAP.
I will be making a separate video tearing down the old engine to see what went wrong. Right now, I need to get Jennifer back on the road.

Several thoughts: 1) Apparently the old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" has some truth to it. Which really sucks. 2) Given all the time-lapse sections, it looks like that royalty-free music investment turned out to be a good idea. 3) I can't imagine how anyone could do this work without a lift. We floorcrawlers could never manage it. 4) I hope everyone realizes how much longer it must have taken you to video this whole process as opposed to just diving in and "doing it". IMO, that makes your effort even more remarkable.

Just subscribed to both of your channels. As fate would have it, I ordered a VCM Tuner II for my odyssey last week because I don’t want “this” to happen. Your care comes through, you mention it all throughout the video and I sincerely respect that.
I know when she called you, your heart sank. I just hope Jennifer realizes that you are an upstanding guy and wouldn't have given her a knowingly bad motor. Let's keep our fingers crossed for many years of trouble free driving. Now, lets see what happened to the other motor.

Eric, just for this episode, deserves 500K new subscribers. Thank you Eric for being so kind and spending the extra hours away from your busy work.
I replaced my atf warmer filter few months ago good to know Eric knows about it. Its often over looked.
I found a garden tool for picking weeds that has the ideal shape for removing seals without damaging them. It pulls the seal out from behind. You can also remove the spring from the new seal. It has a split in it you unwind. Cut a little off to shorten the spring if you see any wear on the shaft.
Love these videos. V6 hondas. I learn something new every time.
I wish I could help people out like you do Eric. This was very cool of you to do! Hopefully no episode 9, haha!
Boy, can I relate to this vid. We bought an '06 Odyssey new, and drove it 201K miles over 13 1/2 years. We were very disciplined about oil changes, and never had engine problems. The VCM system never stopped functioning, but the active motor mounts became INACTIVE with age and the NVH got pretty bad. I installed a VCM defeat device with rheostat. and it worked as advertised. My last long trip with the car was nearly 2000 miles at nearly 190K on the clock. Got 24 mpg with the cruise set at 75 mph, and even at 200K, oil consumption was less than 1/2 a quart between changes. One thing I would have done differently on Jennifer's car... replace those shot active motor mounts with a pair of standard mounts. We currently have three newer Honda vehicles with J35 V6 engines and the 3rd gen VCM. All use 0W-20 full synthetic and run perfectly including an Accord with 114K miles. I think Honda finally got VCM right.

@billyjoejimbob56

@@phamanh30926 All three run on Pennzoil full synthetic 0W-20. I change oil and filter when the onboard reminder drops below 20% life remaining and trips the signal. I never wait til it gets to zero. For the Pilot, that's usually about 6000 miles. Longest interval I ever saw was the Accord when I did several long trips between changes and it went nearly 8000 miles.Your decision to change at 6000 regardless makes sense. Agree that 10000 is too long
