    I love that part about the Divine Tool. Whether your human or a demi-god you have to take responsibility. I have a question though? What about the people who were born with power? Disney characters like Hercules, Elsa, and Baymax are good examples.

    In the Black Cauldron, the divine objects are the seemingly invincible sword and the unnatural titular object of necromancy, both of which have powers that grant the users the powers beyond what they are. Yet the sword is traded for the cauldron and in hindsight it did all the work for Taran without the latter actually earning the right to it. The cauldron has the potential to make the Horned King an invincible army to rule a country of the dead- yet is easily undone by the sacrifice of Gurgi, he’s sucked into it and it’s traded for Gurgi’s revival in the end. Showing that it’s not the objects themselves that make one great, but your own actions independent of objects to give you a false sense of superiority- that truly makes you great.

    For y’all looking for Mulan, I feel her story was a lot more clear when it comes to the magic mirror concept, she’s so self aware that she sees her own inner beauty and the movie is her bringing it out on her own terms! I mean, she’s got her song called “reflection”! And I think it fits very nicely All the more reason to appreciate Mulan :)

    I didn’t really think of the guitar in coco as magic, since it wasn’t that it transported him to the land of the dead, so much as his crime of grabbing it on the day of the dead. I think the magic object there was the petal that allowed him to come back based on the blessing of family.

  • @marsverb
    @marsverb5 жыл бұрын

    Awesome video as always! My only issue is that the guitar from Coco isn't really a magical object. Miguel gets sent to the Land of the Dead after he plays it, yes, but only because it was stolen/because he was forbidden from playing music. The other items in that third category were all inherently magical and gave power to anyone who wielded them, but what happened with the guitar was totally situational. The marigold petals on the other hand... you showed a clip of them and I was kind of bummed that you didn't talk about them. If natural magic objects represent the passage of time and the ephemeral, what better example is there than an object that acts as a literal bridge between life and death for only one day a year?

    I love your videos! It would be so cool if you could do an analysis of Disney heroes having innate powers and what they mean - for instance, Hercules' strength, Rapunzel having hair that can heal wounds and make people young again, and Elsa's ice powers. Or maybe just a video about innate super powers in general and what they mean? Like from X-Men or Marvel. Also it would be so cool if you could do an analysis of what the animal sidekick/ friend represents and why some can talk while others can't.

    I think that one of things that the movie Rapunsel teaches its audience is that not accepting the inevitability will lead to unhappiness, and this unhappiness could lead to villany. Having a flower represent this youth and the inevitability of its time limit is brilliant in my opinion, as flowers bloom for such a short time.

    I mean to be fair in beauty and the beast who just lets some stranger into their house? Then when he turns her away the enchantress is all like, "Welp looks like I have to curse you and all the innocent people in this building who had nothing to do with this." I mean if I had kids they better do the same thing and turn away that creepy lady who shows up at our doorstep in the middle of the night. Stranger danger man, stranger danger.

    It's natural that these magical objects in fairytale/folktales are usually emblematic of the characters that use them and the moral they provide. The dangers of vanity, dependancy or the true potential a character has yet to discover. Cinderella's glass slipper represents a constant state of togetherness and resilience even in the face of harsh circumstances. Despite being glass it only shatters at the hands of others but never in her care, it continues to shine on, much like cinderella's state of mind. (Yes I know it was originally a golden shoe, but the metaphor still stands)

    Isn't Coco Pixar not Disney? I know they know own them but the studios are still separate in my mind, with different styles and stories. Merida too, she can't be the first Pixar Princess if Disney claims her, then she's just one in a long line.

    I rather get lessons of life from the one that created it all, than from a studio that doesn't acknowledges him at all; and tricks people into thinking they do. I'm sorry to sound fussy. Screenprism, You do a good job capturing the real meaning of the Disney movies. Disney wants people to think that they can learn to live and do so without God and his word. And they appeal to the culture of the times. That's all they're about.
