The First WWF RAW IS WAR Episode - DEADLOCK Podcast Retro Review
Ойын-сауық
Deep into the New Generation, WWF decided to rage war on WCW and rename Monday Night Raw to RAW IS WAR! This is the very first episode, before we get to the Attitude Era later in the year. They have a new presentation, including new graphics and a brand new stage. WrestleMania 13 is a couple weeks away and Sid Vicious is WWF Champion. Before he defends his World Wrestling Federation Championship against The Undertaker, they team up to take on Vader and Mankind in the main event. Also, Paul Heyman and ECW are here for “The Great Debate” with Jerry “The King” Lawler. Stone Cold and Bret Hart prepare for their I Quit match at WrestleMania as Jim Ross interviews the special guest referee Ken Shamrock.

New Jack launching a man off a balcony and doing a topé suicida to beat the man's ass is incredibly on brand for him.

They still actively avoid Cena era and beyond. There is some gems to mine there review-wise. Granted the allegations recently sours some thing, but its not like it stopped them before.

@@IsaacSperrowhonestly for guys like these the allegations against Vince are more of a reason to watch those episodes once they need to someday. Vince wasn't even hiding how terrible he was. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to make allegations against him and stuck. Though I guess it has more to do with the fact that the company was sold than anything else.

@@MrFunkyJon Vince and Johnny Ace mainly. Also, there was some beef online with Vicky because of how she treated her daughter for saying she got sexualy assaulted by her step-dad (ie Vicky's husband). Again, probably won't affect the guys because they will just ran with it. Heck, in this review they literally make fun of Jerry for being a pedo. If anything, that kind of call out should be normalised.
Holy shit I clicked on this because it was a random deadlock video and it literally was just uploaded, this was meant to be fellas

The Bret 20 year contract situation is just an inverted employment at will. Bret's clauses were legal because both parties negotiated for them and they weren't so unfair (unfair in this context is basically that the WWF isn't dumb, they understand what is going on), he had to give a 30 day notice before quitting and was given automatic creative in those 30 days. But because the title was on the line in creative, it would've created an even worse look for wrestling, having a court case over whether Bret should've won the match. He could have sued WWF, saying that the company breached the contract by not giving Bret 100% creative over losing the title, which led to him losing out on the very unique contract, but it would essentially lead to having to tell courts exactly how creative works in the business. Bret probably didn't want to overly expose wrestling himself.
I listen to you guys all the time and when things aren't going great, these always bring me up. I appreciate you guys and all you do!
This was exactly one week before my 16th birthday, and the episode of _RAW_ (March 17, 1997) featuring Bret Hart screaming obscenities like a sailor at Stone Cold re: their WM 13 match (and the best damn match in _WrestleMania_ history; I stand by that statement) to end the show LMAO. What a time to have been alive. Also, this show was the first time in WWF to use Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People", ca. 4½ yeara before becoming the _SmackDown!_ theme. on its August 16, 2001 episode, which also debuted the famous " fist" set for the show.

I was laughing like Tony Atlas this entire episode AH HAHAHA AH HAHAHA
I feel like being a wrestling fan is similar to being a fan of, like, a mid-market sports team. it's not the athlete's fault (or mostly not the athlete's fault), and you want to cheer for them because you know they're trying their best, but you get put through so much misery and bullshit for a single moment that, somewhat, makes it validating that you became a fan of this thing
The tony atlas bit 🤣
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN! YEEEAAAAH!!!
Waiting for the sync to drop boys
Them going over the Heyman/Lawler seg is insane, especially with Jawnny's Heyman impersonation
Watching you guys in public is crazy. Tony Atlas laugh gets me every time. I look like a psycho with my earbuds in laughing

my stomach hurts from laughing at the Atlas stuff. now I know how James feels all the time

Blassie's segment was directed by Pat Patterson
I didn't even know that WWE used the beautiful people by Marilyn manson for this episode of raw before it was used for smackdown years later lol that's crazy to me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was two months old when this episode happened 💀
it actually pissed me off how they didn't give the 6-man lucha match any respect
15:25 lmao 🤣
I just fact checked and can confirm Heyman was infact 31 at this raw
What was Miguel supposed to do exactly
I love listening to them just super hate on these shows I loved as a kid. Shitty little 6 year old me loved this and just the rage and misery they're feeling empowers me. I'm a survivor and they couldn't cut it.
Oh its time, dippers!
Goldust getting so much air time around this time means Vince probably legit wanted Goldust to work and be really high up on the card. Another reason why Vince is not a normal human being.
Golly, no wonder WCW was wafflestomping on this bullshit weekly. HOW THE HELL DID WWE COME OUT THE OTHER SIDE?!

Honestly? Because of the Screwjob creating Mr. McMahon, and then making Austin vs McMahon the central focus of the company. They were getting COOKED until Austin became the top guy.
They skipped the part before LoD came in where Faarooq flat out called Ahmed Johnson an Uncle Tom.
WWE 96-97 should also be in contention for worst year in wrestling, lol
Yeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhh
Rock might've been thinking of early UFC. It's worth noting Sean O Hair did join Pride after WWE
The deadlock boys reviewing/watching the worst wrestling shows in existence will never not be hilarious to me y’all gotta dig deeper into wrestling hell
I forgot how bad the first Raw is War was like I get it they where trying out this new concept but man at least the show after this one is a bit better since it was the go home for mania 13.
Goldust rules
I feel like knowing what Karate fighters are, marks someone was a Monday Night wars fan. Hell, even people who were 100% WCW knew Karate Fighters.
what is the fuck you golddust thing from?

@@spookyspacekuck7885 I wouldn’t go THAT far. There were definitely things they did better than WCW, at least at the time. They were pretty good at giving most of their wrestlers something relatively important to do, story-wise, unlike WCW which was just NWO or nothing.
