The First WWF RAW IS WAR Episode - DEADLOCK Podcast Retro Review

Ойын-сауық

Deep into the New Generation, WWF decided to rage war on WCW and rename Monday Night Raw to RAW IS WAR! This is the very first episode, before we get to the Attitude Era later in the year. They have a new presentation, including new graphics and a brand new stage. WrestleMania 13 is a couple weeks away and Sid Vicious is WWF Champion. Before he defends his World Wrestling Federation Championship against The Undertaker, they team up to take on Vader and Mankind in the main event. Also, Paul Heyman and ECW are here for “The Great Debate” with Jerry “The King” Lawler. Stone Cold and Bret Hart prepare for their I Quit match at WrestleMania as Jim Ross interviews the special guest referee Ken Shamrock.

@@IsaacSperrowhonestly for guys like these the allegations against Vince are more of a reason to watch those episodes once they need to someday. Vince wasn't even hiding how terrible he was. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to make allegations against him and stuck. Though I guess it has more to do with the fact that the company was sold than anything else.

@@MrFunkyJon Vince and Johnny Ace mainly. Also, there was some beef online with Vicky because of how she treated her daughter for saying she got sexualy assaulted by her step-dad (ie Vicky's husband). Again, probably won't affect the guys because they will just ran with it. Heck, in this review they literally make fun of Jerry for being a pedo. If anything, that kind of call out should be normalised.

The Bret 20 year contract situation is just an inverted employment at will. Bret's clauses were legal because both parties negotiated for them and they weren't so unfair (unfair in this context is basically that the WWF isn't dumb, they understand what is going on), he had to give a 30 day notice before quitting and was given automatic creative in those 30 days. But because the title was on the line in creative, it would've created an even worse look for wrestling, having a court case over whether Bret should've won the match. He could have sued WWF, saying that the company breached the contract by not giving Bret 100% creative over losing the title, which led to him losing out on the very unique contract, but it would essentially lead to having to tell courts exactly how creative works in the business. Bret probably didn't want to overly expose wrestling himself.

This was exactly one week before my 16th birthday, and the episode of _RAW_ (March 17, 1997) featuring Bret Hart screaming obscenities like a sailor at Stone Cold re: their WM 13 match (and the best damn match in _WrestleMania_ history; I stand by that statement) to end the show LMAO. What a time to have been alive. Also, this show was the first time in WWF to use Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People", ca. 4½ yeara before becoming the _SmackDown!_ theme. on its August 16, 2001 episode, which also debuted the famous " fist" set for the show.
