So beautiful Richard. I don't know if I love your playing more or the length you go to recreate the sound. I must say that this has Jay Graydon or Steve mentor as studio ace written all over it.

You've totally *nailed* Luke's picking attack, which is about 90% of a player's tone. He, Landau (his neighbor growing up!), and Dann the hit man were my idols in my 20s. The first time I heard the outro solo on "Talk To Ya Later" was just as ear-opening as when I heard "Eruption". That screaming, yet melodic/chromatic motif laid down in a completely squashed groove had me investigating all the guitarists David Foster hired to this day. He knew how to pick 'em!

Love this Richard! I didn’t know about this one! Could you PLEASE dissect some of the Chicago Luke solos, like We Can Last Forever. You’re the ONLY teacher that would go there, so I beg you! People hate on that era of Chicago, but Steve was killing it in the session world!

Most of the late 80s Chicago stuff wasn't played by Lukather. Michael Landau and Dann Huff did most of that stuff. Like We Can Last Forever was played by Huff. Luke did however play alot on the Chicago 16 album. But I think you're on to something here. The late 80s Chicago stuff had some great guitar solos and sounds. Only wish there were more content on KZread about that.

Lukisms! I love it! Still sounding GREAT Richard! Yup,Rosanna solo was my first and,at risk of showing my age, without you tube or computers or cds! Haha.Around the time when 4 came out. I got close and scratched the album to shreds but it was fun! Working on my jazz now but I still want to get around to learning that Animal solo!..unless you beat me to it. 😉Stay cool and keep that awesome FEEL that sets you apart here!

@@RichardWatson My first love will always be the studio guys that got me this far over the years.Mr Huff turned a page and produced country music.maybe he still is.So I chose to look into jazz. Speaking of Dann...Giant desperately needs a guitar player that has the Huffisms and you'd be perfect for that gig!!! I'd buy THAT cd! Keep on keepin on.

Thanks Daniel- my pleasure, man! The backing track for the solo is one I made for this video. The acoustic music in the background of the talking parts is from a collection of jam tracks I recorded a while ago. The plan is to turn a bunch of those old pedal demo songs and release a little instrumental record at some point!
