the problem with Charizard isnt overhype, its overpromotion. The hype fans have for Zard is warranted. But the company kind of killed his allure. Think about it- Gen 1 Charizard was beloved. A gen where you can only get him as a starter and he isnt really seen except for the anime and unless you chose him. Then Gen 2, still very much badass except now he's literally unattainable unless you could transfer it and had arguably one of his best sprites that gen. Gen 3 he returns where he's only available as a starter in FRLG. Gen 4 he's postgame in HGSS only. Gen 5 he isnt really seen. But THEN thats when Megas came out, which I think most appreciated both his megas but from this point pokemon really moved into a phase of selling nostalgia as their primary way to interface with longtime fans meanwhile the games became much less interesting for us what with the lack of challenge and post game content. He's the main way to market nostalgia because he was a fan favorite, and I think it wasnt so egregious with the megas but once gen 8 hit and he's the main mon of the champion with a gigantamax form it began to really feel like they were laying it on thick. And i think community taste is cyclical so eventually people didnt want to be seeming like theyre oart of some herd that likes Charizard and so Venusaur line became more populat because it was unpopular. I predict Charizard to have a resurgence with fans, anyway
