I guess you either don't play or found your violin yet, Violin voice is like a soul once you found one there is no other the same I felt terrible to see the end of the video not becouse of the money that comes and goes, but becouse of the distruction of the art and soul of all instruments it litteraly was a murder scene very shoking I can not understand why would some one would do that.

I know nothing of violins but they all look like works of art and sound so sweet that they are magnificent. Nothing can ever replace a treasured possession no matter how great the replacement. Fix the broken instrument with all of your skill but it won’t be the same. Life goes on and you are the artist. Rejoice in that. You haven’t been destroyed.

I think the broken one sounds beautiful regardless. Perhaps clean the hole up and leave it as a extra large sound hole. A unique sound that is a testament to love of music by product of hate and anger.

Willow Dawn, I wonder if he is able to restore the value of the violin which maybe why he has not repaired her. either way that would never keep me from repairing my violin. I am new to the violin even though I have had my grandfather's violin for the past 40years (I was discouraged early on from playing). I could not replace it ever. Neat story though- My mom let my aunt borrow it one time and she promised me I would get it back. I was sad. I didn't want to lose my precious violin. When the day came to go get my violin my aunt wanted to keep it. she told my mom I would never play (this is after I was discouraged by another individual) but my mom told her that it was my violin and that i was going to get it. I was never so proud of my mom.

Hi Daniel. You obviously love your Amati very much. I can feel for you, as I too had a mysterious incident where my 1737 Walther (not in the same league as Amati) acquired a hole just like your violin. I had it professionally restored and it sounds better than ever. Surely it would take the pain out of having to repair it yourself? And an Amati is priceless!!! I do hope hour heart will be healed when you can show us here how wonderful your Amati is.even with the hole, it sounds so wonderful!! Good luck!

Ohayō gozaimasu. I'm a Texan, in Austin. My dear friend is a great luthier from whom I am trying to learn repair. I have M.S., and playing after 20 years of not, has helped my coordination. I may never play to those Amati caliber, but they are very close to their grandfather. I enjoyed #1 & #3. Thank you for your videos, as I work to be your student from what you teach. One day, I'll send photos of my special violin, 19th Century Lyon & Healy, with no marks by them on the body, only an inside label bearing their name. My best friend lived in Nagoya too from 1952-2000, and his son travels there often. I will share your video with them. Many thanks, dear Maestro.

1/18/2019 USA Awww man. Tears are blurring my keyboard. I've watched your repair videos and then this one and now I'm crying. I'm not a violin person, more like a piano person, but your music and your plight have broken my 70-year old heart. I can only imagine your exwife destroyed the violins because they are your first love, and she sought to destroy your first love. I don't need to know what sin promoted her self-righteous rage attack but someday she may fall to her knees sobbing over what she did. Faithfully you were not killed in your soul and you rose with courage and vitality to repair, remake, and make anew the music that sings so many souls around the world. Had I enough long to live Daniel I would come and learn at your feet, and I'm afraid my tools are coarse and bulky compared to yours. A 2x4 is a bit different from book-matched grain violins. May God bless you and your work.

I'm so sorry for your past happenings & the damage done to your beloved violin & all the rest, but I am inspired by your continuing work that you are now doing. As an amateur violinist myself (having played in orchestras & later in folk style groups, particularly Scottish fiddle) I can feel a little of your pain. I learnt violin making, but only completed one (with another half done) being based on a Guarnieri 1733 model (with my own idea of arching) & now continue repairing & setting up new student instruments. An early repair I did was missing a piece from the belly, brought to me by a lady that her late husband had tried to repair. Unfortunately, after my best efforts to bring it back to life it then spent its life back in a cupboard with carpet beetle larvae later chewing through the bow hair that I had also restored which she discovered on getting the violin out to show a friend. I now make a point of telling clients that I'm only interested in restoring an instrument if it is going to be played in the hope that it does get played again. I hope you can continue to heal from this past horrible experience & that you will restore that Amati model violin & play it again. Thank you for all your videos. I've only seen some so far but came on this one & was deeply moved by the sadness of your violin & situation but delighted to hear all those violins. Please keep it up.

Hi, I been watching your videos today & subbed, I then watch this one & my heart broke! , I sat here with tears in my eyes, I do not understand why, I did not know what happened, so I was trying to work out what had happened, then I scroll down & read, I said NOOO,& why? Why would somebody do that, your wife on top of everybody did that... I cried & then I understood my tears & the sadness I felt at the beginning of this video, It's going to be ok mr Daniel, your heart will heal, & you will be able to repair your beautiful violin & bow, they still sing sweetly for you as they wait to be healed, maybe you will heal together as. You repair her, & even broken she still sounds amazing!..... As soon as I saw the light blonde violin I knew that was the one you would really like, maybe this violin will help you along the path to repair your very special one... God has given me the gift of restoring musical instruments, so far I have restored a Acoustic guitar & a wooden flute, & a ukulele that I gave my sister for Christmas.... But to repair a violin I have never done I would like too but I understand it's a very very special instrument & takes great skill, patience & love, I am learning to play violin I'm grade 4/5 & it is my favourite instrument, maybe one day I will be able to play as well as you that would be pretty Awesome, Keep letting the light shine & don't allow that darkness to win, God has blessed you greatly......:)

I think the broken Amati still sounds amazing; although I am not expert in recognizing great violins. There is just one hole in it; I think it will remain your best. This video was very emotional. God bless you and give you strength. The Amati violin must be extremely old perhaps older than Stradivarius.

My tears can't stop falling down...I'm so sorry, you didn't deserve this.I'm an amateur violinist from Portugal and former fine art student and my "violin crush" always has been Amati models. A true piece of art is immortal. Your Amati stills sings, is not dead. I wish you all the best.

All the violins you made sounds wonderful. If I have to pick one then its either the no.3 or 4. Only when you go back to the Amati I clearly hear the Amati has a very different tone, the resonance gives it a very deep wholesome tone despite it being broken.

Dear Daniel, I came across this video for the second time and was wondering since you build those wonderful other violins have you repair your amati? I was wondering do you have the missing piece? Can you replace the whole top with ones you have made? I would like to see you back playing.

I hope you can find enough heart to repair your Amati, even damaged it still sound like that of an old master. My compliments on the new ones, given time and enough playing they sound like they will turn into excellent instruments.

Daniel Daniel you are just like me . We are almost going to be on a similar story. The thing with us is that we play our fiddle with so much passion ! We take good care of our fiddles with to much passion ! And we play our favorite tunes with too much passion that we forget about our partner in life and they feel forsaken. I have almost thirty violins and I try to play them all with the same passion comparing them with almost the same songs. And by doing this our worst half gets too annoyed we almost can ignore they are not there because we are in a different world when our fiddle are in our hands. I own old and new fiddles. Amati. Strad. Guarneri. Hopf. Stainer. Not to forget my. Now collections And spend all my time playing them almost everyday. After watching your video I can't help but put my self on your shoes. Of my how awful feeling to lose something you have love all this years and try to put them all back together again. Imagining all the hours days months and years you will be spending to put things back? And oh how about a broken heart Dan? Let's just try to forgive done and put peace in our hearts.

Your old violin reminds me of Willie Nelson's guitar trigger. It has a hole in the top where his fingers playing wore through the top. It has a most beautiful tone. Willie leaves it and plays it in all his shows. Perhaps you should just have the broken spot cleaned up and play it with another sound hole. It's tone is beautiful. Your orange and blond violins of the new ones sound the best. The first one colored similar to your old violin sounds very nice too. All sound good. Thanks for your video.

Thank you very much for playing your real Amati violin even with the with big hole damage. Its superb sound and uniformity throughout the musical spectrum are unequal. I would select it any time of the day. I am glad you intend to repair it, give it a try. As for your other violins they really have very nice sounds but the last one you played is the closest to the Amati but not as mellow. I appreciate good recordings, but I am not a player at all. Best of luck.

Nice sound BUT comparing the original Amati they sound a bit 'synthetic' ? But they will be good for playing with orchestra. They have bright and brilliant sound and amazing modulation. The only problem is, that the sound lacks the elegance and wisdom of the old Amati. Sorry.

All these instruments sound wonderful, like I stated a while ago, you could make any violin sound good. All of these are wonderful testament to your skill as a violin maker but none sound as good as your broken one, even broken. I can not understand why, with your skill, you do not repair it now? I guess it must wait for you to heal before it can. A question though, what if something should happen to Daniel on all his travels. Would you want a stranger to repair it? You say you look for one to play, you have one. Anyway I asked before if you would demonstrate some of your violins and price them, at least now I can attest to you skill. Thank you for the video

violin wood need time to be seasoned, it does not matter how good I am or someone else, we can not compare with a violin more than 300 years old, I will try to make as many copies as I can, until I am convenced that it is not possible to make a violin sound close to my broken heart, I will repair the violin, and let it keep my company for the rest of my life. thanks. About the price of my violin, I really did not make those violin for sale, but I want them to be usful, therefore I will think about it when they are ready to be put on the stage. thanks again

AV Daniel Violin - My ex-wife was from Shanghai and she ended up diagnosed bi-polar. At the end of things she assaulted my parents, smashed up everything in my condo, and crapped on my rug (that last one just blew my mind when I saw it). While I didn't have anything as valuable as your collection, I did have an antique hutch that I had inherited that was totally destroyed. I haven't looked into getting it restored yet, but I intend to. You should definitely repair that Amati if you can. Also, go see a therapist. It took awhile, but I no longer feel like a piece of crap that failed my marriage. :-) I'm subscribing to your channel because I love watching craftsmen do the type of work you're doing. You clearly love music. Don't let bad experiences hold you back from the things you love doing. I hope to see you back onstage with your beautiful Amati again.
