Let's just say, Skydome has changed since 1989 - with bigger changes set to debut in 2023 as part of its major renovation to turn it more into a baseball stadium since the Argos, the former co-tenant with the Jays, moved down the road back to the old Ex grounds to the later constructed BMO Field.

Interesting how everyone seemed to think it would be a pitcher's ballpark. As it turns out, the stadium's metrics skew slightly towards hitters, especially for doubles and homers.

Jesse Barfield had already been traded to the Yankees (I think) and Moseby would leave after the season. This was Whitt's final season with the Jays too.

And now it’s had its biggest renovation ever, with new social spaces don’t make the poorly aged relic of the past, but rather much better ballpark that can compete with some of the others Also seeing young Buck Martinez is crazy.

There have been many changes over the years including renovations to the training facilities and clubhouses. What you have seen in the last two years had just been a more visible change in the seating areas and concessions. Let's remember they also added dirt base paths and the turf has been replaced many times. The video screens have been replaced many times. The outer lining of the roof has been completely replaced.

No idea why they chose to open the place when it clearly wasn't ready. Obviously they were shooting for opening day 89, but after that was no longer doable, it is beyond me why they would choose to open at the first possible second, despite everything being done at the last second. If anything, give yourself ~4 more weeks and make it a big day for the fans, open on Canada Day (the Jays were indeed at home that day, in a 4 game series against the A's) when it could be properly prepared. Astonishing how apparently no one was embarrassed by the fact that the team themselves hadn't even set foot in the place prior to the day, so they had no idea about the status of the field or the outfield walls. No logos on the roofs of the dugouts, bullpens with tarps and construction equipment just sitting there, I mean really just thrown together. Not sure why you wouldn't just postpone it and do it properly given that you've already missed your original target.

All new facilities require some shake down time. But to stay in the old place would have meant operational costs and improvements to the old yard too. The New SkyDome was in far better shape to host MLB than the Exhibition Stadium site in its final days as a ballpark.
