You've done a great job carving those roses on the fire place, wow!👌and your garlands with chicken wire are genius. The contrast colour paint seems to be more of a red sandstone colour effect rather than the creamy limestone colour that you wanted? You'll figure it out I'm sure, even if you have to paint over it and use a stone colour for shading...

I am wondering if you painted over the more purple paint with the lighter original maybe you would like it but your accent colors in the mural really don't go with a purple tint. Yah I like that idea too.

You might want to try sculpting the roses with apoxie putty to add a bit more relief. Just a thin coating of the clay might smooth the cement so it would look more like soft stone. The foliage and flowers on the fireplace are so ancient looking. They belong to the antiquity of the house. The garlands and lights on the house are magical. You have given the gift of joy to your neighbors.

I think there are too many things on tne fireplace mantel. Take everything off and add thegreensfirst then add decorations.

A cream colour or a colour from the mural might work for the fireplace. I liked it after the base coat was applied.

Love the garlands! You can use the same principle with the chicken wire to do live plantings...line the wire with moss and then fill with soil. Add the live plants and you have a living, growing decor no window box required. Built a live wall this way in my garden this way to grow strawberries.

The type of wire you got we call "hardware cloth". I use it for sieving soil and compost for raised beds and potting soil. I have it in 1/4", 1/2", and 1" for different types of soil needs. I just have it attached to a simple wood frame. Love my sieves.

For me that would be an overload of kitsch. The mural in the background has enough life, but if you fill up the fireplace in the foreground wirh many kitsch, the overall view becomes very restless. ​On the shelf of the fireplace I would place something large in the middle, higher than the wall lamps and a medium size piece such as a vase or bowl on the right and left. then you have harmony ​

I think wait til tomo and see in daylight. But it looks better already and when you get mantel all decorated, I bet you will like it! The outside looks really lovely! 🎄👍💖

Maybe a carved wood floral piece could be added to the front of the fireplace? And then paint the fireplace. Or tiles maybe could be added.

You could dilute the purple. Paint the inside black first. The contrast will be stunning and then you will know how to play around with the paints. Also, I’m thinking too many things on the mantle….less is more. ❤

the fireplace looks amazing and i agree with you the sooty dark back of fireplace makes it look cosy. It will be nice to see what the tiles you plan to collect will look like, you have great taste and choose stunningly lovley things. the terracotta floor came up stuniingly beautiful. Did you know there is a fan that you can get that you can sit on top of the stove and the heat from the stove is enough to propel the fan round and thus will push more heat into the room . The wall painting is amazing.

Just sand the purple off the side and apply the same light color. The flowers look great and natural to the fireplace. If you want it to look like a painted fireplace but don't like the flowers, try to get some wooden ornamental pieces to cover them and then paint them to match. I’d suggest you use the white paint give it a second coat and then add marbling greyish marbling to it it’s a technique but I’m sure you can find some thing online about it. I definitely do not like that purple I can see why you’re so perplexed about it. Your wreaths look magnificent job well done you’re so creative and resourceful.

Hope you'll soon feel better. Your beautiful garlands bring joy to your neighborhood too! Maybe just leave the fireplace for a bit and you can sample different colors on a piece of cement outside. 🤗

Yah that’s true. Use a sample cement to see the color before putting it on the fireplace.

I think the fireplace looks great as is. Less is more in this case. You don’t want the fireplace distracting from the beauty of your murals. Also I’m concerned if you paint the inside of your fireplace, fumes may constantly be emitted into the room since it’s so,close to the heat of your wood stove.

I agree actually. She would need paint that can withstand heat. Even then it’s not going to be great and will need constant maintenance. They have enough to do as it is.

I needed to do repairs on my stone fire place. I used tile grout. Mixed dozens of trials to get a good match to patch the original. Tedious but worth it.

What beautiful garlands! I think the fireplace will be a process and it will be stunning once finished.

I like the cream color on the front and black for the inside. I think if you just paint the cream color the texture from the cement will come through and don't need to add to that. Also, curious....how are the heated floors and did the internet issue get resolved?

to have a natural effect of stone is to use some paint mixed with a bit of plaster powder (or chalkpowder, made quiet liquid with water ( thin cream/milky texture) , then bring a very thin layer on with a brush and a secondary layer dabbed with(natural) sponge. (you can add little pigment/paint (ombre/black/brown) so you get a more stony look when dry you can add some of te darker paint in the carvings. (if base color is too dark you can add slightly brigter color (add white). keywords: sponge, liquid, thin layers; For a more unpolished marble like of stone you can using a thin brush to add also some lines.

The mural in the kitchen is stunning Alla! Regarding the fireplace, why not consider painting a marble effect on the stone 😊 My feeling is that it might actually work 👍It's not uncommon to realise that...when we feel stumped, perhaps we haven't conceived the right design or outcome for something.You'll find it...I'm blown away by your mural's throughout the ground floor!!! When stuck, consider options you would not normally do 🎉

Could you stipple over the purple colour with a limestone coloured emulsion?

Trust your instincts with the painting of the fireplace. They have been steering you well so far. It isn’t quite right, but too difficult to give real color/paint advice without seeing it in person. The subtleties and undertones are what are making the difference here along with the actual lighting in the room. What I would suggest is leave it for a few days and come back to it with fresh eyes.
