You also gotta give Embark respect for their marketing strategy. In a day where it seems like every studio is setting sky high expectations and rushing products to market to meet a promised release date, Embark did none of that. They allowed the gameplay itself to set the expectation through the use of betas, while continuing to use betas for the traditional purpose of improving the experience. And instead of rushing to meet a release window, they opted not to give one at all. It's the exact opposite of the over-promise, under-deliver mentality that seems all too pervasive in the industry these days.

the trailers also didnt overpromise anything. The trailers kept the details of the gameplay very muted, but you got the sense that there was destruction, movement, and stealing money. No need to be anything more, since thats all the game is.

the destruction in the finals is the same that was in BF:BC2 but after that battlefield decided remove that lvl of destruction and made BF3 BF4 less destructible and since then less and less with each game. @@jaywerner8415

My favourite part about the destruction is how it doesn't directly damage you. This means you can have really cool moments, like the floor giving way beneath you in the middle of a gunfight, or the roof caving in and complicating a capture, without having to worry about if it will kill you

I think the low install size comes down to most buildings lacking interior design. There aren't really any props like furniture, carpets, etc.

yeah from my understanding high rez texutres account for a lot of game file sizes. So more assets means more textures. Its also possible they are using more procedural textures to reduce file sizes which is becoming more common.

nah, unfortunately everyone who made battlefield special left dice when 5 was done. the company and people who made the bfs we love is/are gone. its sad but its extremely unlikely that battlefield will ever be its former self. especially in todays climate, its just not looking good and i dont think any of us have any real reason to think otherwise.

@@Sinsanatis to me it's tricky because still nobody has made a respawn loadout based arcade FPS feel as good as CoD. No matter how bad CoD gets there is still nothing like it that feels even half as good to play. There's something magical about that Quake engine that is just untouchable but arena shooters are sadly dead so CoD is like the last embers of that dying flame. Also RIP Blacklight Retribution, the most fun F2P FPS ever created. Still waiting for someone to let me customize guns as much as BLR.

When talent is done being taken advantage of and bands together to actually create art instead of asset flipped cash grabs - You get The Finals. Bless these developers.

I love how games push destruction forward. Battlefield is classic of course, but Rainbow 6 wowed me with the concept of precise tactical destruction and this game looks like levolution taken to it's logical limit. I love it.

...would be more useful for you to mention what settings help with in cpu bound scenarios and gpu bound. ..so if you are cpu bound (like most) drop viewdistance to low/medium and shadows to low.

If this tells you anything, the finals runs at 60fps on ultra/epic settings on my aging hardware from 2015.

@@SuberDuberUberEvanthe game is pretty CPU heavy. I'm on a 5600x and my CPU starts getting close to 90% all cores at 90fps. So I set my FPS cap to 90, and turned on some more eye candy to give the GPU something more to do.

Anybody know if the physics are using UE5 async physics?

The only problem with the game is that its hard to find a team tha doesn't play solo and now how to play tactical coop... I've unlocked ranked 5min ago, lets see how it goes.

I'm old BF fan but 2042 disappointed me. And unexpectedly The Finals came up and gived me what i need. The destruction, team play, good style, graphics and especially fun. Thanks Embark! Keep it that way.

i use 3070 and using vsync, its stable on 75 fps @1080p on all EPIC setting, this game is crazy optimized with all those crazy features

If you have some insane FPS why useing frame generation, you said for competition play lathency is a key. With frame generation lathency always will be higher. All what you said is a logical mess.

But I don't have nearly enough free time to slot this in besides work and my other regular games :( EDIT: People here apparently never heard of limited time things. Probably should've specified it more in the comment itself. But there is no time right now for The Finals as the other stuff I play has limited events going on now for christmas/end of the year. I also play with friends a bunch and none of them are into a game like this, so other games are higher priority for now.

I play with raytracing set on medium on 3050, it's not that demanding really in this game.

Looks like a dope game. Not sure if anything has touched Red Faction: Guerrilla's destructions physics yet.

Environmental destruction is among the most underutilised game ideas, ever!! Like, Red Faction is still the last game to fully encorporate it, jesus

in a wild fight with raytracing on ultra quality without DLSS i get 220-300 fps on max settings on a RTX4090, with DLSS on it 2x fps so 400-500+

Do not use frame gen in competitive games. It increases inputlag! Also upscaling makes things blurry and adds artifacts.

This game is definitely cpu bound which will make and sort of FSR and DLSS not actually increase frames. I believe all destruction physics are done by the CPU

unfortunately the game doesn't run as well as the open beta. not to sure what they did. averaged 130-140fps in OB on medium/high settings. now lowest settings with performance FSR I average 90-100fps. No clue what it is drivers all up to date. On a GTX 1080 with an i5 9600k.

I turned my effects all the way down because the reflections in narrow areas will appear in places it's not supposed to for moving objects. Also DLSS makes far away things blurry for me if i put it on performance/ultraperformance.

You took that out of context. He mentioned server side. Siege uses client side destruction unless they changed it in the last few years. Been screwed over plenty of times in siege because I was visible on their screen even though I was hidden on my screen.

something I really love about this game is its optimization, I have an extremely low end pc, I dont meet the minimum requirements for this game and even the game itself warn me about it or possible crashes, and yet I can still run the game with minimum settings, it still looks really really good, the fps are not the most optimal but IT RUN!!!! I CAN PLAY!!! ITS FREE!!! WHAT ELSE CAN I ASK FOR A GAME

Everything's great but who wants to play a hectic FPS game with higher frames but 2x the frametime - that's what frame generation does. You didn't explain NvFG is bad for FPS games.

I’d love to this level of destruction in a very different game or more traditional military shooter. There’s just a lot of gameplay mechanics I don’t enjoy. Characters spamming invisibility: No thanks. Daily challenges with crummy melee weapons: Nope. $20 cosmetic outfits or look generic: Yikes. Auto shotty heavies: Ugh. It’s an occasionally fun game with a group and rarely fun game as a solo player. I hope this gives Embark a revenue stream to make a game that appeals to me because this just ain’t it. Too many good single player games out right now to spend a moment playing this game solo.

EA/DICE this is what we wanted from BF. Get your shit together

This game feels like Battlefield because most of the Embark Studio staff are ex DICE employees, even the management. It's hard to think Battlefield would get back to this level of destruction without the folks that moved to Embark.

The destruction is incredble, but they desperately need to work on the building collapse hitboxes, the amount of times that buildings collapse and make it impossible to revive teammates or the cashout gets stuck under a piece of building that means you can't get to it properly is quite frustrating. Hopefully they fix it over time.

Often the means have to be used during a fight or you simply don't have them because you have to bring other things to combat the opposing meta, for example on Medium, I run Jump pad (or Zipline), Defibs, and grenade. How do you propose I do that with this loadout? You could say that the Heavy usually has RPG, and that's true, but given how the destruction works often you need multiple rocket attempts to break these structures in a way that is helpful. Blowing up the rubble is situational as the gadgets are very often better used in other ways. It would be much better if they just made it so trophies can't get stuck under rubble.

Again though, the issue is that things like trophies literally get stuck inside walls that fall ontop of them, so if i'm trying to res my heavy, how is my dead heavy going to break the wall that his trophy has gone inside of? I don't just mean the wall fell on the trophy, the trophy goes INSIDE the wall. The destruction works really well apart from the moment the building collapses completely, then it's scuffed

So it's like BF Bad Company lol. Back when BF didn't suck.

The performance in this game is impressive for the amount of physics but it's not "smooth as butter" by any means unless you consider 60FPS the standard. The bar for competitive FPS is set a lot higher and if this game wants to live up to its e-sports/tournament theme it certainly needs improvement. That said, the game is a lot of fun and I only wish the team the best.

BTW frame gen only improve motion fluidity. The input delay will be of the pre frame gen. And dlss increases input delay. If dlss doesnt give you that big of and fps improvement its useless. And frame gen is not worth for fps games.

it also gives people a lot of blue screens. it also corrupted my friends windows install. it partially corrupted mine.

this game is cpu intensive, my i7 13700k bottlenecks a 4070ti 😅

Switch to AMD that’s your problem . I have a 3080 and a 5700x has 0 issues. My 3080 is clearly the bottleneck at 2k 144hz. Idk what frame rate you are trying to hit though.
