The Final Programme Phase IV - The Last Days of Man on Earth

Ойын-сауық

We're back in Derry and Toms in the company of Joe Banks to take a look at Robert Fuest's 1973 film take on Moorcock's The Final Programme (AKA The Last Days of Man on Earth).
As is traditional we roam around, but mostly we evaluate The Final Programme as both an adaptation and as a work that stands (or falls) on its own merits, and Joe has a startling take on that ending that I'd never considered. And we talk about some other stuff.

Just got hold of this film. Been on my watchlist for ages. First saw it on release in the 70's. Currently on a Moorcock nostalgia journey 🖖

hi guys, just watched this film for the first time and i have to say, unfortunately, it's near on completely incoherent. watched it with my partner and we were both utterly confused for i would say 90% of the film.. so many questions.. like what did that opening scene at the funeral have to do with anything?... what is the point of the main protagonist wanting to purchase napalm.. what was the point of the scene with the arms dealer selling him a phantom jet .. what was he planning to do with it? and in the end he didnt do anything.. as for basics, it is never explained what has happened to world this is set in, what year is it? what is going on with the woman absorbing? people? the final scene made no sense either unless it is to show the experiment didnt work gotta say to anyone not seen it, dont expect much.. maybe read the book first? thing is i read a review of someone who couldnt understand it (like me), he watched it twice, still did not get it, then read the book, still did not get it.. i think this overall a poor investment in ones time... im kinda annoyed i wasted 82 minutes watching it.. i did enjoy you guys talking about it though.. (much more than the film itself).. id give this a 4 out of 10..
