Excellent but Moving sad Farewell. Only just found this film on You Tube, brought back memories of seeing The Band and the Regiment, marching through Manchester many years ago, and always remembered the distinctive green trousers with the broad yellow stripe. Amalgamation is a near fatal blow to regiments soul and spirit. And of course haven’t all the defence cuts worked out well- just ask Vladimir Putin. I doubt we could field a brigade without back filling and cannibalism. An appalling state of affairs.
@pencils19515 жыл бұрын
We had a 5th. skin in my intake, unfortunately, personal hygiene was a problem. I was tasked with cleaning him up. As room-leader I organised bathing, not one he would want to repeat. Something I'm not proud of, but the intake Sargeant gave me no option. Nobody wants to serve with someone who's dirty and smelly, particularly in a tank environment. Nonetheless, it is always sad when historic regiments amalgamate, it is an end to a rich history. I was greatly saddened when my regiment amalgamated with the 14th. 20th. Hussars, fortunately, the crimson trousers survived, and Prince Albert's legacy continued. We took over from the 4th. 7th. Dragoon Guards and the state of the equipment left much to be desired, but they were days when BMT's and other vehicles were evolving. Like any other soldier worth his salt, I am proud to have served in a Cavalry Regiment.

Thanks for your comments Trevor, all part of our Regimental History!
As a young lad of 16 went to Catterick in 1976 to audition for the band didn't get it and eventually got in to The Royal Regiment Of Fusiliers.

I was in the band in 76. If you stayed overnight we probably took you for a drink.
Served with them as attachment in London Derry 1989
Does anyone know the names of the waltz and the tune after it?
My ex was in the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards back in the 80's and early 90's and when they were station in Paderborn Germany.
1st time I have ever seen this
Always a bit sad to watch final parades. I have happy memories of the 5th Skins being onboard HMS Anzio in the Persian Gulf in 1964/65. Anyone watching from those days?

ADendum Just recalled, circ 1940 they occupied vacant houses requed by War Dept & an unexploded bomb in the front garden awaiting disposal on theway to school, kidswere jumping on it until a Sgt came out & sent them packing , A short while later the fuse activated & killed the poor Sgt. They alsomanned an Ack Ack gun on the sea wall of the Jubilee bathing pool on the"prom"
Ex-Royal Engineers, Hameln, until 1991. Both 28 and 35 have left and are no more. I can understand the feelings of the Royal Inniskilling when their time is called. I hope the 'amalgamation' worked out.

They see the regimental system as an obstacle to their plans.
Never realized Wilky made Captain. He was my 1st Tp Sgt

Amalgamation is a near fatal blow to regiments soul and spirit. And of course haven’t all the defence cuts worked out well- just ask Vladimir Putin. I doubt we could field a brigade without back filling and cannibalism. An appalling state of affairs.
It would be interesting to know the names of some of the tunes being played.

If anyone from the band is reading this I'm sure they can assist.
Why some soldiers wear red cap instead of skin's primrose cap?
I suggest an Enniskillen '87 red wine.

Brave regiment. As were the Connaught Regiments. When, as seems inevitable with the next border poll, the Republic of Ireland takes the place of what is now, will the colours stay where they should be ? As the man said ‘you have move with the times’. .the last song listen now ..
A sad day indeed! Up the Regiment!

@@markferguson396 Apologies Damn Tankies! The Tankies - Royal Tank Regiment specifically, rather than cavalry units equipped with tanks - this differentiates from "tankers" as the US army term for all tank soldiers
Instead of cutting regiments why not just have the same number but reduce their size? The alternative is awful with whole divisions being decimated. Truly a definition of short sightedness.
Amalgamation in my mind is the greasy injustice done to the British army a wound that is self inflicted.
Were they not part of the Union brigade?

There are various spelling variations. "Inniskilling" was probably the spelling used when the regiment was raised.
