    Sorry to hear this. I just went today to stop by FYE and I have to say it was also emotional seeing the last anchor store close. My grandfather played Santa here in the mid 2000s and I always have good memories of it. Can't imagine it will last too much longer.

    I'll have to remember to keep an eye out for more store closings like this. Lots of nice deep shelving that's just really hard to find for good prices nowadays new. The JCPenny closest to me at the moment still seems to be doing ok but I imagine like everything else its days could be numbered. I have a glass front cabinet that I got from Toys R Us when those closed...they originally priced it at 200 but gave it to me for 40. I kept the "this area is under video surveillance" stickers on the glass as a nice homage and for the laughs. Seems especially in the final few days of these types of sales it's worth it to show enough interest that you may be offered a nice deal below the sticker price.

    The only things I ever bought from a place going out of business were 2 hand baskets from Toys "Я" Us (Whitney Field), one which I use to lug video gear for bowling videos, the other is just there. The funniest thing I've seen was when Whitney Field's Macy's was heading south (no out of business event for maybe 2 years) was a decommissioned register. There was a sign that said "Customer Service" with a bed directly underneath it. I waited for staff to not be around to photograph that, and post it to Facebook. :)

    Whenever I go into the JC Penney near me at the Pheasant Lane, there are a lot of people shopping in there. I hope it stays that way. JC Penney is one of the few retailers that has a decent selection of mens Big and Tall apparel. Their shoe department leaves a lot left to be desired though. Anyone who wears anything bigger than a men's 12 M shoe is out of luck.

    What Amazon doesn't kill, I think the Chinese online sellers like Temu will. The fact that a few of the long running dollar stores are dying proves the super cheap stuff from Temu and Alibaba is winning in my opinion. That and there isn't enough retailers left who need to dump inventory to keep the dollar stores alive. At least JCPenney is still being smarter than Sears was.

    That's sad. I haven't been in a Penney's in years, but it's sad. The stores do dump things from other stores into the one that's closing, or the company hired to handle the closing does it. I found a pile of Land's End shirts in a closing Sears, all the same pattern and in limited sizes. No talls, naturally. That full rack was a clear indicator. They may have done it with the fixtures in this one, and maybe those little bits near the exit.

  • @madmerlot841
    @madmerlot8412 ай бұрын

    Some of those fixtures looks good enough to be used as a desk. There must be acres upon acres of fixtures in warehouses around the country with all these various stores closing and no buyers of the fixtures. It looks the the store itself hasn't been updated since the 1990s. This seems to be the theme of stores going out of business soon. I bet many JCPenney's and Macy's look the same with stores that haven't been refreshed in over 30 years.
